Abstract

Abstract

This article discusses the development of animation-based learning videos on three-dimensional materials to improve mathematical literacy. This development research uses the Plomp model, that is, preliminary research, development or prototyping, and assessment phase. The results of the learning video in this development are viewed under three aspects, namely validity, practicality, and effectiveness, involving students of SMA Negeri 3 Pekanbaru as research subjects. The animated video-based learning media was declared very valid with a result of 73, very practical with a result of 56, and effective in improving mathematical literacy. This states that animation-based video learning media is good and worthy of being used as a mathematics learning media to improve mathematical literacy.

Abstract

In the ever-evolving digital era, teachers are required to be able to integrate technology into the learning process to improve the quality of education. This community service activity aims to develop teachers’ competencies in implementing the 5EIM learning model (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate, Integrate, and Meta-Reflect) based on technology. The methods used include training, mentoring, and classroom implementation evaluation. This activity was attended by teachers from various educational levels with diverse backgrounds in technology utilization. The results of the program showed a significant increase in teachers’ understanding and ability to design and implement the 5EIM-based learning model digitally. Furthermore, the teachers also showed a positive attitude toward the use of technology as a tool to enrich students’ learning experiences. This activity is expected to serve as a model for sustainable and adaptive professional development for teachers in response to the demands of the digital age.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Discovery Learning model on the mathematics learning outcomes of class VIII students at SMP Negeri 1 Siak Hulu in the 2025/2026 academic year. This study uses a quantitative approach. The type used is quasi-experimental research. This experiment is called a quasi-experiment. The population in this study were all students of class VIII of SMP Negeri 1 Siak Hulu in the academic year of 2026. Sampling in this study used a purposive sampling technique by selecting two classes, namely class VIII B as the experimental class and class VIII A as the control class. The original plan for the type of sample for the experimental class and the control class was 34 and 35 students, respectively. However, during the implementation there were students who were absent, so the sample for the experimental class was 32 students and the sample for the control class was 26 students. The research instruments used in this study were pre-test and post-test essay questions to determine student learning outcomes. The data analysis techniques used are descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. Based on the results of the research and the results of the research data analysis that have been carried out, the value of Asymp.Sig (2-tailed) <α was obtained with α = 0.05 and Asymp.Sig (2-tailed) = 0.000 (0.000 <0.05). Therefore, H_0 is rejected and H_1 is accepted, meaning there is a difference between the average learning outcomes of students in the experimental class and the control class. So it can be concluded that there is an influence of the discovery learning model on the mathematics learning outcomes of class VIII students at SMP Negeri 1 Siak Hulu.

Abstract

Mathematical problem-solving skills are an essential competence for pre-service mathematics teachers, as they are expected to cultivate these skills in their future students. This study aims to describe the problem-solving profiles of pre-service mathematics teachers using Polya’s four stages as an analytical lens. A qualitative case study approach was employed to examine the cognitive processes demonstrated by pre-service teachers while solving mathematical problems. The findings reveal diverse problem-solving profiles, including conceptual understanding shaped by prior experience, logical reasoning used to interpret problem conditions, and the ability to represent problems through mathematical models. These profiles underscore the need for dedicated coursework that enhances mathematical problem-solving skills within mathematics education programs. The study provides insights into the variation of problem-solving profiles and offers implications for curriculum development in the mathematics education department. Keywords: Mathematical problem-solving skills, pre-service mathematics teachers, Polya’s profile, qualitative research
