Abstract

This research highlights the importance of numeracy as one of the indicators in assessing a country's progress. Numeracy bridges mathematical theory with practical application and can be used in everyday decision-making, such as financial decisions, health literacy, and risk assessment. However, the Minimum Competency Assessment results show that more than 50% of students still need to be in the low numeracy competency category. This research aims to explore the mathematical reasoning processes of pre-service mathematics teachers in solving travel route problems to understand their analytical skills. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach with data collected from 30 fifth-semester mathematics education students at the University of Jambi. Data were obtained through numeracy tests, observations, and semi-structured interviews, allowing in-depth analysis of the participants' mathematical reasoning processes in solving contextual problems. Participants were asked to solve problems related to the context of travel routes, focusing on time and cost efficiency in choosing travel routes. The research results show that most participants can understand and model the problem, although there are differences in their approaches to solving it, ranging from very analytical to simple. Some participants initially misunderstood the problem, but after being given the opportunity for reflection, they were able to improve their understanding and the solutions produced. This research concludes that fostering mathematical reasoning in teacher training programs is crucial for improving numeracy skills. Sustained practice, reflection, and a structured problem-solving approach are necessary to help prospective teachers analyze and interpret mathematical problems more effectively.         Keywords: mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, route travel, and pre-service mathematics teachers. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i2.pp712-727

Abstract

Current solar panel maintenance often involves manual, rooftop fieldwork, which introduces significant fall-from-height risks and occupational hazards. To address this, this research investigates the integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) to streamline and enhance operational efficiency. The goal is to develop an IoT-enabled solution for user-driven routine maintenance that can significantly mitigate occupational hazards and reduce maintenance duration. This system is designed to optimize the long-term energy yield of solar panels by preventing the typical efficiency decline caused by neglected upkeep. The study employs a prototype development method (literature review, construction model design, and control system development). The final system leverages common consumer-grade terminal devices (smartphones, laptops) to provide a ubiquitous, real-time control interface, allowing users to manage the system remotely via a stable network connection.

Abstract

One of the most important and potential problems encountered in an official online letter management application is the recipients' late response. This action research aims to improve the recipients' response time and determine the central core of shyness according to response time categories: less than 24 hours (green zone); between 24 hours to 48 hours (orange zone); and more than 48 hours (red zone) in managing formal online letter management system at Jambi University. Using the social representation theory of shyness as the basis of action adopted from Moscovici theory [1], it is hypothesized that response time displaying will impact response time improvement. A survey questionnaire distributed to 129 respondents showed a significant improvement in the participants' response time, respectively, in cycles 1 and 2. The zone group increased percentage sed from 22.44% to 52.49 % in the first cycle, and it ultimately raised to 62.38% at the end of the second cycle. Such an increase might be due to the users' efforts to avoid the level of shyness, which were classified into: (1) slow to respond and (2) personal or work unit late response time – both marked in red. It is recommended that social shyness incorporated in improving response time in a formal online letter can be further implemented with other social and psychological parameters. The application will illustrate computer systems' interaction on social society to implement regulations both in institutions and in government.
