Abstract

This research examined the readiness of English Education students at Esa Unggul University towards the student-centered learning (SCL) approach, focusing on three main aspects of learning readiness: physical, mental, and cognitive. With the increasing adoption of SCL in educational settings, understanding students' readiness across these dimensions was crucial for its effective implementation. Through a qualitative descriptive analysis, this study employed questionnaires and interviews with 43 freshmen to explore their readiness. The research methodology integrated a purposive sampling technique, aiming to gather in-depth insights from participants with direct experience in SCL environments. Findings revealed a moderate level of overall readiness, with variances across the three examined aspects. Physically, students felt somewhat prepared, particularly in terms of self-assessment capabilities, albeit less so for cooperative learning. Mentally, a general trend towards moderate agreement was observed, with strengths in reflective practices and collaborative skills. Cognitive readiness highlighted a strong inclination towards engaging in authentic learning tasks yet revealed gaps in connecting new learning with prior knowledge. These insights suggested that while there was a foundational readiness for SCL, targeted interventions were needed to bridge identified gaps, particularly in learning autonomy and prior knowledge connections. The study concluded that enhancing student readiness for SCL required a multifaceted approach, addressing the pedagogical and environmental factors influencing physical, mental, and cognitive readiness.

Abstract

Food literacy and food waste have not received special attention from both the Indonesian government and society. However, considering that the country produces the second largest food waste in the world, ranking 100th at literacy and a stunting prevalence rate of 24.4% in 2021, the introduction and education of students about this issue is very important and urgent. This study aims to determine the urgency, constraints, and strategies for food literacy and food waste for children at school. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection through the study of research literature and relevant information. The results of the study show that the introduction of food literacy and food waste has a high level of urgency considering the environmental impact and future sustainability of Indonesia. Another supporting factor is that Indonesia's 2030 green growth policy can be used as a driver and basis for policy. Then, there are three obstacles to the success of this effort, teacher capacity, culture, policies, and alignments. This research also describes strategies that can be used, literacy school programs, use of interactive educational media, and collaboration with social media influencers and public figures.

Abstract

Abstract The purpose of this community service activity is to assist English teachers for junior high schools (SMP) in West and East Agam Districts, West Sumatra, to be able to digitize English-speaking learning materials by incorporating microlearning-based critical thinking skills into Virtual Reality (VR). This activity is carried out through training and workshops, which are carried out online through Zoom meetings and Google Classroom. The activity was carried out for 2 hours online through a Zoom meeting and 4 meetings through Google Classroom during August 2023. The participants in the activity were 25 English teachers who are members of the Subject Teacher Consultation (MGMP) for Middle School in Agam Regency. The presenters were five lecturers from the Master of English Education study program, Faculty of Languages and Arts Universitas Negeri Jakarta. The training materials cover the independent curriculum concept, microlearning, critical thinking, VR and speaking skills which are tailored to the objectives of teaching English at the junior high school level. This activity generates understanding and skills in making speaking learning material products medium microlearning Objects (MeMos) infused with microlearning-based. Abstrak Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah untuk membantu guru Bahasa Inggris sekolah menengah pertama (SMP) di Kabupaten Agam Barat dan Timur, Sumatera Barat, mampu melakukan digitalisasi rancangan pembelajaran berbicara Bahasa Inggris terinfusi keterampilan berpikir kritis berbasis microlearning ke dalam Vitual Reality (VR). Kegiatan ini dilakukan melalui pelatihan dan lokakarya, yang dilaksanakan secara daring (online) melalui zoom meeting dan Google Classroom. Kegiatan dilaksanakan selama 2 jam secara daring melalui zoom meeting dan 4 pertemuan melalui Google Classroom selama bulan Agustus 2023. Peserta kegiatan adalah 25 orang guru Bahasa Inggris yang tergabung dalam Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP) SMP Kabupaten Agam. Pemateri adalah lima orang dosen dari program studi Magister Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni Universitas Negeri Jakarta. Materi pelatihan mencakup konsep kurikulum merdeka, microlearning, berpikir kritis, VR dan keterampilan berbicara yang disesuaikan dengan tujuan pengajaran Bahasa Inggris di tingkat SMP. Kegiatan ini menghasilkan pemahaman dan keterampilan dalam membuat produk materi pembelajaran berbicara medium microlearning Objects (MeMos) terinfusi keterampilan berpikir kritis berbasis microlearning ke dalam VR.

Abstract

Abstract This study focused on the teachers’ responses on the training of designing English lexicogrammar materials that incorporate microlearning and collaboration skills for seventh grade of junior high school students. The study aimed to investigate 24 junior high school teachers’ answers on the questionnaire given after a one-day training organized to support teachers in designing effective instructional materials that enhance students' understanding on lexico-grammatical concepts and promote collaboration within the classroom. A qualitative study was conducted to capture what the teachers think about the training. Data was collected from teachers by filling out a questionnaire. The findings showed that the teachers need more training on the designing microlearning materials applied to teach students using Merdeka curriculum. Some obstacles emerged because of the poor internet connection. Moreover, some suggestions have been given for improving the quality of the training. Abstrak Penelitian ini berfokus pada respon guru terhadap pelatihan perencanaan materi ajar leksikogramatika bahasa Inggris yang berbasis pembelajaran mikro dan terinfusi keterampilan kolaborasi untuk siswa kelas 7 Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki jawaban dari 24 guru SMP pada kuesioner yang diberikan setelah pelatihan satu hari yang diselenggarakan untuk mendukung guru dalam merancang bahan ajar yang efektif yang meningkatkan pemahaman siswa tentang konsep tata bahasa dan kemampuan keterampilan kolaborasi siswa di dalam kelas. Sebuah studi kualitatif dilakukan untuk mengetahui apa yang dipikirkan para guru tentang pelatihan tersebut. Data dikumpulkan dari guru dengan mengisi angket. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa para guru membutuhkan pelatihan lebih lanjut tentang desain materi ajar pembelajaran mikro yang diterapkan untuk mengajar siswa menggunakan kurikulum Merdeka. Beberapa hambatan muncul karena koneksi internet yang buruk dan beberapa saran telah diberikan untuk meningkatkan kualitas pelatihan.

Abstract

Microlearning and critical thinking are essential for effective English speaking, yet their integration in existing materials for seventh graders remains inadequate. As a result, this study aimed to develop microlearning- based English speaking materials enriched with critical thinking for seventh graders. Using content analysis, this study analyzed these materials through modified frameworks of microlearning and critical thinking (Allela, 2021; Leong et al., 2021; De Gagne, 2019; Hug, 2005; Anderson & Krathwohl, 2001). English teachers were also interviewed to confirm material usage and assess the integration of microlearning and critical thinking. Content analysis of one national textbooks (Kurikulum Merdeka) and two teacher- created materials, alongside interviews with three teachers, revealed deficiencies in material design conciseness (LM_ML02), curriculum alignment (LM_ML05), and microlearning object incorporation (LM_ML06). Moreover, coverage of critical thinking skills such as analysis (CT4), evaluation (CT5), synthesis (CT6) was also limited. These findings highlighted the need for developing microlearning-based English speaking materials enriched with critical thinking for seventh graders. However, the focus on this grade level limits generalizability of the results. Therefore, further research across different academic levels and education context is recommended.

Abstract

Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) method is implemented in English language teaching in the 21st century. In Indonesia, CLT method is developed and adapted in learning model and based on the needs of students. The purpose of this study is intended to present the reasons of using CLT method in English Language Teaching (ELT), identifying its application in Indonesia in the 21st century, and finding the benefits of CLT method for teaching and learning from a critical theory perspective. It can help language teachers who are looking for ideas to enhance their teaching. In this study, qualitative descriptive research was used. The researcher reviewed some current publications such as journals, articles, virtual resources and internet access which focusses the CLT method. Based on the result, the main reason of CLT is to develop students’ skills so they need to communicate effectively in social situations by involving them in engaging and relevant learning activities. While the students can apply the CLT method through consistent oral practice, student-to-student interaction, and teamwork. Additionally, the CLT method learning produces some benefits to support a student-centered approach, increase student engagement, encourage lesson flexibility and creativity, and to develop all fundamental language skills. Abstract

Humanisme adalah salah satu filsafat dalam pendidikan yang menganggap manusia sebagai makhluk yang penuh kreativitas dan kebahagiaan. Pendidikan dengan memprioritaskan filsafat humanisme memiliki pandangan bahwa proses pembelajaran tidak hanya sebagai sarana untuk konversi tetapi merupakan sebuah proses pembelajaran. konsep merdeka belajar dipilih dengan esensi pendidikannya bermakna kemerdekaan dan kemandirian. Merdeka belajar dianggap relevan dan tepat dilaksanakan di era demokrasi pendidikan saat ini.Metode Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian berupa penelitian metode kepustakaan.Pada penelitian ini teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan melakukan pencarian referensi online dari berbagai sumber database. Sumber data primer meliputi Buku Panduan Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka 2020 dari Kemendikbud. Sedangkan sumber data sekunder diambil dari berbagai literatur seperti catatan, buku, jurnal, artikel ilmiah dan referensi literatur ilmiah lainnya. Filsafat pendidikan humanisme merupakan filsafat pendidikan yang mengedepankan kemanusiaan atau proses memanusiakan manusia di dalam proses pendidikannya. Dalam praktek teori filsafat humanisme cenderung mengarahkan siswa untuk dapat berfikir, mementingkan pengalaman, dan membutuhkan keterlibatan siswa secara aktif didalam proses pembelajaran. Konsep merdeka belajar memberikan kesempatan belajar dengan penuh kebebasan dan kenyamanan untuk peserta didik. Sehingga peserta didik dapat menikmati rasa tenang, nyaman dan bahagia tanpa stres atau mendapat tekanan dari manapun Konsep merdeka belajar akan tercapai, bila mana pendidik mampu melihat aspek filosofis menjadi dasar keberhasilan dalam pelaksanaannya, karena suatu konsep pendidikan dapat dijadikan aplikasi atau alat pemikiran filosofis, dalam perkara ini adalah Filsafat Humanisme. Signifikansi relevansi dalam pemikiran humanisme dan konsep Merdeka Belajar dalam kegiatan pembelajaran yang membutuhkan berbagai komponen, antara lain: guru, tujuan pendidikan, peserta didik, materi, metode, sarana, prasarana dan evaluasi.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find and develop the multicultural spirit contained in the  Tanpa Kata  novel behind stories about commitment in relationships. The method used was descriptive qualitative and quantitative to obtain preliminary data about the urgency of the spirit of multiculturalism.The population to determine the needs of this research is  as many as 38 students from a total of 73 students in Literary Criticism Course. The sample used was purposive sampling in the form of a novel entitled Tanpa Kata (Without Words). In  addition to being the researchers themselves the instruments used were questionnaires to find out the multicultural attitudes of students in Literary Criticism Courses at the English Language and Culture Department of Darma Persada University.The results of the analysis showed that in the novel studied, though the novel generally told stories about love, but there were found the spirit of multiculturalism.Keywords:  Literature Literacy,  Multiculturalism spirit, Novel Tanpa Kata, Purposive Sampling

Abstract

Literasi Digital merupakan salah satu literasi pada Abad Ke-21 yang dibutuhkan untuk berhasil menjadi warga dunia di era digital. Literasi digital dianggap sangat erat kaitannya dengan literasi dasar (kompetensi membaca, menulis, berhitung) yang merupakan bagian terpadu dalam Pendidikan. Tujuan penelitian ini menggali lebih dalam penerapan pengintegrasian literasi digital dalam pembelajaran berbicara bagi guru bahasa. Desain penelitian ini adalah analisis isi. Sumber data berupa enam RPP kelas XI dari 3 SMA negeri dan 3 SMA swasta di Jakarta yang diambil secara acak. Data berupa kata, frasa, dan kalimat yang mengandung indikator literasi digital yang diambil dari Rencana Persiapan Pembelajaran (RPP) dengan menggunakan indikator kerangka kerja kompetensi Teknologi Informasi dan Komunikasi (TIK) dan deskriptor Common European Framework (CEFR Bands) untuk menganalisis pembelajaran berbicara. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa  dominasi indikator kompetensi TIK banyak ditemui pada level Knowledge Acquisition (KA) terintegrasi ke dalam RPP, khususnya pada komponen media pembelajaran, kegiatan, dan penilaian. Sementara untuk level Knowledge Deepening (KD) hanya ditemukan satu indikator yaitu menentukan aktivitas online yang tepat ke dalam rencana pembelajaran dan sumber belajar elektronik yang terintegrasi ke dalam RPP. Sedangkan pada level Knowledge Creation (KC) ditemukan dua indikator kompetensi TIK terintegrasi kedalam RPP, yaitu penggunaan berbagai alat dan perangkat TIK untuk melakukan kegiatan membangun pengetahuan, penalaran, reflektif, dan komunikasi. Dan ketepatan penggunaan berbagai sumber web dalam mendukung pembelajaran berbasis projek. Hasil temuan kesesuaian Kompetensi Dasar dengan CEFR menunjukkan bahwa indikator /deskriptor CEFR yang terintegrasi ke dalam RPP berkisar pada rentang  A1 – B1. Pengintegrasian literasi digital pada pembelajaran berbicara bahasa Inggris didominasi pada kompetensi akuisisi pengetahuan (Knowledge Acquisition) dan alat TIK yang digunakan Powerpoint, YouTube, Zoom Cloud Meeting,WhatsApp group, dan Quipper terintegrasi pada komponen RPP yaitu media, materi, kegiatan pembelajaran, dan penilaian.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the extent to which Japanese language education standards, namely the JF Standard, are included in the existing Japanese grammar teaching materials. This study also examines the extent to which active learning is included in Japanese grammar teaching materials, and the extent to which the digital format of Japanese grammar teaching materials is adopted in existing teaching materials. This study uses research and development methods. The results showed that the Japanese education standard, namely the JF Standard, did not yet exist in the current Japanese grammar teaching materials, nor did the existing teaching materials adopt active learning and the format used was still an old format that did not use digital formats.
