Abstract

National development is successful when quality human resources are available, which requires early preparation during adolescence with good nutritional status. Nutritional issues among adolescents in West Java Province, particularly stunting (24.1%) and overweight (16.9%) among individuals aged 13–15 years, remain high. These issues are influenced by suboptimal socioeconomic and demographic factors, as well as the low quality and diversity of food consumption, especially in animal-based foods (24%) and fruits and vegetables (16.9%). This study aimed to analyze the relationship between socioeconomic factors, demographics, and food consumption quality with nutritional status. A cross-sectional design was employed using primary data from 88 participants. The study was conducted in February 2024 at SMP Negeri 1 Cibungbulang and SMP Negeri 2 Cibungbulang. Participants were selected through purposive sampling based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Inclusion criteria included grade VII students willing to participate in the study, while exclusion criteria included those unwilling to participate or with incomplete data.Statistical tests employed included descriptive analysis and relationship tests (Spearman and Chi-Square tests). The findings revealed significant relationships between maternal education level (p=0.013) and maternal employment status (p=0.041) with adolescent nutritional status. Additionally, food consumption quality showed a significant relationship with nutritional status (p=0.016). In conclusion, socioeconomic factors, demographics (maternal education level and employment status), and food consumption quality play critical roles in achieving optimal nutritional status among adolescents.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus has a significant impact on health and, in the long term, can lead to complications. Women are at a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus compared to men. For women of reproductive age, diabetes mellitus can affect reproductive health and pregnancy quality, which may influence the next generation. The study aimed to determine risk factors for type 2 diabetes mellitus in women of reproductive age in Bekasi City. This was matched case control study, involving 72 subjects selected by purposive sampling. The study was conducted at community health centre in Bekasi. Results: There were no significant differences in nutritional status (p=0.083) and age at menarche (p=0.234) of women of reproductive age with T2DM and non-T2DM. Long menstrual cycles increase the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus by 6.2 times higher than normal menstrual cycles (p=0.005). A history of gestational diabetes in women of reproductive age increases the risk 2.2 times higher for women of reproductive age to experience T2DM in the future (p=0.027). Long menstrual cycles and gestational diabetes are important factors contributing to the increased risk of T2DM in women of reproductive age.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effects of nutrition education on anemia and upper arm circumference in pregnant women. It was a cluster-randomized control study involving 110 pregnant women. The nutrition education interventions, was a combination of offline and online sessions, conducted by trained Nutrition education staffs with a 1:5 ratio to pregnant women. Twelve education sessions were conducted for three months utilizing a nutrition booklet for pregnant women, food monitoring cards, and flyers shared on a social media WhatsApp group. The socio-demographic data were obtained through an interview method. The nutritional status collected, by measuring Mid Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC), and anemia was determined through a diagnosis by the family doctor. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test and the paired and independent t-tests, the confidence interval was set at 95%. Hemoglobin levels in the intervention group experienced a higher increase than in the control group. The MUAC in the intervention group increased by 0.8 cm while in the control group it was decreased by -2.7 cm. However, the Difference in Difference (DID) analysis did not show significant different for both parameters (p=0.198 and p=0.274). Chi square analysis showed that the prevalence of anemia at the end line point in the intervention group (3.6%) was significantly lower compared to the control group (14.5%) (p=0.047). The prevalence of the Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) measured by MUAC decreased by 9% in the intervention group, and 1.8% in the control group. However, the difference in prevalence of CED was not statistically significant (p=0.696). The nutrition education within three months did not significantly increase the mean hemoglobin and MUAC. But considering the trend in decreasing anemia and CED prevalence in the intervention group, structured and routine nutrition education can be implemented as part of nutritional intervention in pregnant women to prevent anemia and CED to observe effects in a longer-term intervention.

Abstract

The objective of this study were to analyze the effect of different compliance monitoring cards of iron supplementation and the determinants in female adolescents in Bogor. Design of this study was quasi experimental. There were 240 adolescent girls from 6 different schools in Bogor who participated and allocated into 3 groups: receiving either monitoring card from Health Department (M), monitoring card verified by teacher and parents (M+T), and monitoring card verified by teacher with additional information about anemia and iron supplementation (M+TP). The data of iron supplement consumption compliance, perception of iron supplementation, nutritional knowledge, motivation, parents and teacher support were collected. The results showed, that a significant difference on compliance level among the groups (p<0.05). The M+TP group had the highest compliance level. Weekly compliance rate was higher (15%) compared to compliance during which participants were menstruating. The most determining factor for compliance level was teacher support (p<0.05; OR=4.7; 95%CI;1.5-14.2). The developed monitoring cards can improve compliance of iron supplement consumption on female adolescents.

Abstract

This study analyzed the correlation between stress levels and emotional eating, snacking habits, and nutrient intake among college students. This cross-sectional study involved 98 students as subjects who were selected by convenience sampling through an online questionnaire. The result showed 70.4% of the subjects experienced moderate stress, 52% were emotional eaters, 64.3% consumed snacks more than 3 times a day, 39.7% had a protein deficit, 36.7% had an excessive fat intake, and 49% had an energy and carbohydrate intake classified as severely deficit. This study found a positive correlation (p=0.04; r=0.21) between stress levels and emotional eating. Among college students, a high prevalence of moderate stress level was associated with emotional eating.

Abstract

The nutritional status of school children currently still experiences very complex disparities, including severely thin, underweight, overweight, and obesity. The government's initiatives against nutritional problems in school-aged children include, among other things, the delivery of school-based balanced nutritional guidelines. The present activity aims to identify the opportunity for balanced nutritional guideline integration through the learning process in the Merdeka Curriculum at SD Plus Rahmat, Kediri City. This study used mixed methods and a sequential explanatory design through qualitative and quantitative (descriptive) analyses. The activity was carried out from April 20‒May 30, 2024, and was the initial stage of the 2024 Dosen Pulang Kampung multi-activities. The implementation method consisted of observation and focus group discussions (FGD). The subjects were 15 participants, including teachers and Yayasan Taman Pendidikan Rahmat stakeholders. The findings show that six out of seven P5 program contents have been integrated into literacy competency of nutrition, such as the types and functions of food and nutrition. Most FGD participants (±90%) had moderate to high average nutritional knowledge and behavior, namely 75.6 and 84.7, respectively. The results also show that the co-curricular program, namely the Project for Strengthening the Profile of Pancasila Students (P5), is an opportunity for PGS integration. Integrating PGS into literacy and numeracy in P5 still requires ongoing teacher assistance. The assistance is expected to increase teachers' understanding and behavior towards balanced nutritional guidelines, conveying how to shape student character according to balanced nutritional guidelines.implemented with school children to shape the character regarding the Balanced Nutrition Guidelines.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Street foods have an important role in contributing school children energy and nutriens need. Nationally, there is a serious problem on the safety of street food near schoool, therefore an effort is needed to overcome the problem. The objective of this study was to develop a simple model to solve the safety problem of street food near school. The study was conducted in two steps. The first step was done in 10 primary schools to determine the problem and to define the method of problem solving. One school with the worst food safety problem was selected as area of research. The second step was to implement the defined method into the selected primary school. Descriptive and inferensia analysis were applied in this study. Based on street food safety risk evaluation, the defined methods are nutrition extension and assistance to street food vendors in primary school SDN "D". Food vendors at SDN “D” were mostly (88.9%) male, with age between 18-40 years old. Their education background was elementary school (44.7%) and classified as poor (55.6%). Knowledge, attitudes, and practices of most food vendors after nutrition extention and assistance are better than before. Pearson correlation test showed a positive significant correlation between knowledge and food safety attitudes (p <0.05). Meanwhile, there is no significant correlation between nutrition knowledge and attitude (p> 0.05), nutrition and food safety knowledge, with food safety practice (p> 0.05), and nutrition and food safety attitude with food safety practices (p> 0.05). Overall, the nutrition and food safety extension and assistance have been effective in improving knowledge, attitudes and practices of the food vendor but it needed more extensive and periodical assistance to sustain the impatct. Keywords: food safety, street-food selling at primary school, nutrition extension ABSTRAK Makanan jajanan memberikan kontribusi yang penting bagi pemenuhan kebutuhan zat gizi bagi anak. Secara nasional ada persoalan serius terhadap masalah keamanan makanan jajanan anak sekolah dasar sehingga perlu diupayakan cara mengatasinya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan model sederhana upaya mengatasi masalah keamanan makanan jajanan anak sekolah. Penelitian dilakukan dalam dua tahap. Tahap pertama dilakukan di 10 sekolah dasar (SD) untuk menentukan masalah dan upaya yang akan dilakukan. Satu SD dengan masalah keamanan makanan jajanan yang terparah kemudian ditentukan sebagai lokasi. Pada tahap kedua, upaya yang telah dirumuskan, diterapkan pada SD terpilih. Data diolah secara deskriptif dan inferensia. Berdasarkan tinjauan terhadap resiko ketidakamanan makanan jajanan, upaya yang dilakukan adalah penyuluhan gizi dan pendampingan pada SDN “D”. Penjual makanan di SDN "D" sebagian besar laki-laki (88,9%) dengan kisaran usia 18-40 tahun, berpendidikan SD (44,7%) dan tergolong miskin (55,6%). Pengetahuan, sikap, dan praktek sebagian besar penjual makanan setelah dilakukannya pendampingan lebih baik daripada sebelumnya. Uji korelasi Pearson menunjukkan hubungan yang positif nyata antara pengetahuan dan sikap keamanan pangan (p <0,05). Sementara itu. tidak ada hubungan antara pengetahuan dengan sikap gizi (p> 0,05), pengetahuan gizi dan keamanan pangan dengan praktik keamanan pangan (p> 0,05), dan sikap gizi dan keamanan pangan dengan praktik keamanan pangan (p> 0,05). Secara keseluruhan penyuluhan sudah efektif meningkatkan pengetahuan, sikap dan praktek penjual makanan tentang gizi dan keamanan pangan namun diperlukan pendampingan yang lebih intensif dan berkala untuk menjamin keberlanjutannya. Abstract

ABSTRACT The incidence of stunting and delays in cognitive abilities is a problem that still occurs in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the effect of family characteristics and subject characteristics on cognitive abilities in preschool children in the city of Bogor. This study uses a case-control design on some of the data from the Child Development Cohort (TKA) study located in the city of Bogor. The case group is preschool children with delayed cognitive development and the control group is preschool children with normal cognitive development. The number of subjects in this study was 84 children, consisting of 42 children in the case group and 42 children in the control group. The variables analyzed included family characteristics (parental education, parental occupation, and family size), subject characteristics (gender, anthropometry at birth, nutritional status at birth), health status, and the parenting environment, and children's cognitive development. The results of the analysis show that the increase in height of children 0-4 years has an effect on the cognitive development of preschool children. Children with height gain that is not in accordance with WHO standards are at risk of 4.1 times experiencing delayed cognitive development. In an effort to increase the growth and cognitive development of children, access to education and the provision of a good nurturing environment must be increased. Fulfilling the nutritional needs of preschool children that are appropriate so that children's height growth is optimal and providing good psychosocial parenting can optimize their cognitive development. In addition, the provision of stimulation according to the child's age is needed to support more optimal growth and development of children. ABSTRAK Kejadian stunting dan keterlambatan kemampuan kognitif merupakan masalah yang masih terjadi di Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh karakteristik keluarga dan karakteristik subjek terhadap kemampuan kognitif pada anak usia prasekolah di Kota Bogor. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kasus kontrol pada sebagian data studi Kohor Tumbuh Kembang Anak (TKA) yang berlokasi di Kota Bogor. Kelompok kasus adalah anak prasekolah yang mengalami gangguan perkembangan kognitif terlambat dan kelompok kontrol yakni anak prasekolah dengan perkembangan kognitif normal. Jumlah subjek pada penelitian ini adalah 84 anak terdiri dari kelompok kasus 42 anak dan kelompok kontrol 42 anak. Variabel yang dianalisis meliputi karakteristik keluarga (pendidikan orangtua, pekerjaan orangtua, dan besar keluarga), karakteristik subjek (jenis kelamin, antropometeri saat lahir, status gizi saat lahir) status kesehatan, dan lingkungan pengasuhan, dan perkembangan kognitif anak. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa pertambahan tinggi badan anak 0-4 tahun berpengaruh terhadap perkembangan kognitif anak prasekolah. Anak dengan pertambahan tinggi yang tidak sesuai dengan standar WHO berisiko 4,1 kali mengalami perkembanan kognitif yang terlambat. Sebagai upaya untuk meningkatkan pertumbuhan dan perkembangan kogntiif anak maka akses terhadap pendidikan dan pemberian lingkungan pengasuhan yang baik harus ditingkatkan. Pemenuhan kebutuhan gizi anak prasekolah yang sesuai agar pertumbuhan tinggi badan anak optimal dan dengan pemberian pola asuh psikososial yang baik dapat mengoptimalkan perkembangan kognitifnya. Abstract

The non-compliance of female adolescents with the consumption of iron and folic acid supplementation (IFAS) poses a challenge to reducing the incidence of anemia. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the effect of nutrition education using the local culture-based approach on the level of knowledge and attitudes regarding awareness, interest, evaluation, trial, and adoption dimensions, as well as compliance of female adolescents in consuming IFAS. The intervention was conducted using a quantitative quasi-experimental design approach. The sample comprised 68 and 58 senior high school girls in the control and intervention groups. The intervention group received IFAS and local culture-based nutrition education for 12 weeks and followed up after four weeks; while, the control group was given a leaflet and IFAS. Univariate analysis was conducted to analyze the participants’ characteristics; while, bivariate analysis used an independent T-test. The multivariate analysis was carried out using multiple linear and logistic regression analyses. The study showed a statistically significant increase in knowledge and attitudes scores in the intervention group (p-value<0.01) compared to the control group. In conclusion, the compliance with IFAS in the intervention group was 82.8%.

Abstract

Breakfast was a meal at the start of the day that was often overlooked by teenagers, even though it played animportant role in concentration and academic performance. This study aimed to analyze the eect of breakfastintervention on concentration in adolescents. The research method used a quasi-experimental study design withsecondary data. Data processing was carried out from February to April 2025. The study subjects were dividedinto the intervention group (Cibungbulang Junior High School 1) and the control group (Cibungbulang Junior HighSchool 2), with a purposive sampling technique. The inclusion criteria were that the subjects were in class VII,had no history of diabetes mellitus, and had complete data on the variables studied, while the exclusion criteriawere incomplete and irrational data.The statistical tests used were the Mann-Whitney dierence and Spearmancorrelation tests. The results showed signicant dierences in intake and levels of energy and nutrient adequacybetween the intervention and control groups (p<0.05). The correlation test also showed a signicant relation-ship between intake and levels of energy and nutrient adequacy with adolescent learning concentration (p<0.05).Therefore, providing breakfast that met balanced nutritional guidelines was important to improve concentrationand support adolescents' academic performance.
