Abstract

Introduction: This study aimed to develop a health coaching model grounded in these theoretical frameworks. Methods: An explanatory cross-sectional design was employed, involving 155 caregivers purposively recruited from seven primary health care centers in Makassar, Indonesia. Eligible participants were primary caregivers from nuclear or extended families, aged ≥18, with complete contact information, available for home visits, and referred by the mental health program coordinator. Study variables included family, caregiver, patient, nurse, and health care service factors, as well as health coaching, planned behavior, behavioral intention, and caregiver ability. Data were collected between February to June 2024 using structured questionnaires and analyzed with Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (SmartPLS v3.8). Results: The family, patient, and nurse-related factors significantly affected health coaching. These factors, along with caregiver characteristics, also affected planned behavior, which in turn significantly influenced behavioral intention and caregiver ability. Conclusions: Health coaching directly improved caregivers’ capability. These findings highlight the importance of comprehensive health coaching and family-centered training as integral components of mental health services.

Abstract

COVID-19 is a disease caused by a new corona virus resembling pneumonia and first appeared in China's Wuhan Province in November 2019. Nurses play an important role in health care settings, including prevention, infection control, isolation, continuous patient monitoring, and have occupational risk as well as high risk of exposure in providing care during the COVID-19 outbreak. The purpose of this literature review is to identify nurses' knowledge, attitudes, practices, perceptions, and psychological responses to COVID-19. This research method is a literature review. Search for articles using six databases namely PubMed, Ebscohost, Chocrane Library, ClinicalKey for Nursing, Science Direct, and Gray Literature using keywords based on PICO. There are 1,149 articles identified from 2019-2021, was found 21 relevant articles that were discussed and analyzed. Results: The majority of nurses had a good level of knowledge, had positive attitudes, good practices, and positive perceptions of COVID-19. Nurses are experiencing stress and psychological responses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusion: The majority of nurses have a good level of knowledge, but there are still nurses who have less knowledge about diagnosis, prevention, treatment and control of COVID-19 infection, besides that nurses also experience psychological responses such as anxiety and depression related to COVID-19.

Abstract

Introduction: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a global health concern requiring long-term self-care management. Health coaching has emerged as a behavioral intervention to support individuals with T2DM, yet the specific roles of nurses within this context remain underexplored. Objective: This scoping review aims to map existing literature regarding the roles of nurses in health coaching interventions designed to enhance self-care management among individuals with T2DM. Method: The review followed the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology for scoping reviews. A systematic search was conducted across databases including PubMed, ScienceDirect, Wiley Online, and ProQuest, targeting peer-reviewed studies published between 2009 and 2019. Articles were selected based on predefined inclusion criteria and underwent thematic analysis to identify recurring roles of nurses. Results: Thirteen studies met the inclusion criteria. Four primary nursing roles emerged in health coaching for T2DM patients: educator, supporter, advocate, and care coordinator. Nurses provided individualized and group education, emotional and informational support, facilitated communication with healthcare providers, and ensured continuity of care through coordination. Three models of care coordination were identified, with nurses acting as intermediaries, collaborators, or lead coaches. Conclusion: Nurses play multifaceted roles in health coaching to enhance self-care management in individuals with T2DM. Among the identified roles, the integration of educational and supportive functions showed the greatest impact on improving patient outcomes. These findings underscore the importance of integrating nurse-led health coaching into diabetes care strategies to empower patients and improve glycemic control.

Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study was to understand the perspectives of Kaders, community health nurses (CHNs), and the community on an empowerment program for Kaders in Indonesia. The program aimed to help Kaders provide cultural-based diabetes self-care management education for people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods: The empowerment program consisted of a four-month training program, including two full-day sessions on cultural-based health education for people with T2DM, followed by four months of monitoring T2DM patients. Fifteen Kaders from community health centers in Makassar City participated in the program. Focus group discussions (FGDs) were conducted with Kaders to explore their perceptions and experiences related to the program. Interviews were also conducted with CHNs and people with T2DM regarding their perceptions of the program. Results: The FGDs with Kaders resulted in four themes: overall training, guideline book, education and monitoring program, and potential obstacles. CHNs highlighted the benefits of the program, the guideline book, and the impact on patients. Patients identified three themes, including the benefits of the program, what was taught, and what was improved. Conclusion: The empowerment program for Kaders in Indonesia has proven to be beneficial for Kaders, CHNs, and the community. Kaders have the potential to provide effective and efficient health education with proper preparation and empowerment through knowledge and skills.
