Abstract

Research on the relationship between emotion regulation and Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) among adolescent social media users in Indonesia remains relatively limited, even though adolescents aged 13–18 years are highly intensive users of digital technology. This study aimed to clarify the direction and strength of the relationship between emotion regulation and FoMO among adolescent social media users. A quantitative approach with a correlational study design was employed, involving 165 adolescents aged 13–18 years selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected online via Google Forms using an emotion regulation scale (covering cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression) and a FoMO scale (covering anxiety, need to belong, addiction, and need of popularity). The instruments demonstrated good reliability, with Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.798 for emotion regulation and 0.872 for FoMO. Data were analyzed using Pearson Product–Moment correlation and simple linear regression with the aid of SPSS. The results indicated a significant positive relationship between emotion regulation and FoMO (R = 0.549; p = 0.000), with an explained variance of 30.2% (R² = 0.302), meaning that a portion of the variance in FoMO among adolescents can be accounted for by their level of emotion regulation. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening emotion regulation in the context of adolescents’ social media use and open opportunities for further research involving additional psychological variables and longitudinal designs to better understand the long-term dynamics of FoMO in the digital generation.

Abstract

Every parent wants a child to be present in their home. All parents hope that their children will be born perfect. Parents want their children to be physically and mentally healthy. However, some children are born and grow in abnormal conditions. Some of them have physical and mental limitations since birth. This research aims to determine the extent of self-acceptance of parents who have children with special needs, especially children with Down syndrome. The method used in this research is a qualitative approach with the phenomenological method. The data analysis technique used was Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) with purposive sampling technique in selecting subjects. The data collection method in this research was in-depth semi-structured interviews with three mothers who have children with Down syndrome. In this research, three main themes were found, namely (1) Parental emotional- psychological experiences, (2) Parenting strategies, (3) Positive experiences, as well as five special themes, namely (1) Self-surrender, (2) Self-introspection, (3) ) Openness, (4) Input from other people, and (5) Your contribution. The results of this research show that the process of self-acceptance for mothers who have children with Down Syndrome is a long and complex journey, involving various emotional and adaptation stages. Mothers of children with special needs face significant emotional challenges, including shock, sadness, worry, and pressure from society. This research also emphasizes the importance of emotional support, openness, and wise parenting strategies in helping mothers accept and care for children with Down Syndrome.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between emotional regulation and anxiety levels in early adult women undergoing long-distance marriage. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The research subjects were 155 early adult women undergoing long-distance marriage who were selected using a purposive sampling technique. The instrument used was the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) to measure cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression strategies, which consists of 10 items with a 7-point Likert scale, and the Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS) anxiety subscale which consists of 14 items with a 4-point Likert scale. Data analysis was carried out using multiple regression and hypothesis testing was carried out with simultaneous F tests, partial t tests, and coefficient of determination tests. The results showed that emotional regulation was related to anxiety simultaneously by obtaining a sig. value. The F test was 0.003 <0.05, and the partial t test results also showed that cognitive reappraisal strategies had no relationship with anxiety obtained a sig. 0.724 > 0.05 and expressive suppression was found to be related to anxiety obtained a sig. 0.001 <0.05, and the results of the determination coefficient test obtained an R Square value of 0.072. This means that emotional regulation strategies contribute to the anxiety variable with a proportion of 7.2% while the rest is explained by other factors outside the research model. These findings indicate that emotional regulation is an important factor in maintaining psychological well-being in early adult women in long-distance relationships. Therefore, it is important to understand how emotional regulation strategies can be optimized in facing the dynamics of long-distance marriage.

Abstract

Stress, anxiety, and depression are prevalent and co-occurring conditions among university students that significantly impair academic functioning and overall well-being. Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) has theoretical and empirical support as a psychophysiological intervention targeting somatic arousal, but evidence from Indonesian university contexts examining all three outcomes simultaneously remains limited. This quasi-experimental study employed a two-group pretest–posttest design to examine the effects of a five-day PMR intervention on stress, anxiety, and depression among psychology students at a public university in West Sumatra, Indonesia. A total of 60 participants meeting inclusion criteria of high or very high DASS-42 scores were assigned to an experimental group (n = 30) or a no-intervention control group (n = 30). Outcomes were measured using the Indonesian-adapted DASS-42. Normality was assessed using the Shapiro–Wilk test; stress and anxiety met normality assumptions and were analyzed using paired-sample t-tests, while depression in the experimental group showed a severe normality violation at posttest (W = .882, p = .002) and was analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The experimental group demonstrated statistically significant reductions in stress (M: 29.63 to 22.10, d = 0.84), anxiety (M: 25.17 to 18.37, d = 0.78), and depression (M: 22.57 to 14.47, r = .54), all p < .001, reflecting large to medium-to-large effect sizes. The control group showed non-significant changes across all outcomes. However, the absence of between-group statistical comparisons, follow-up data, and feasibility metrics limits the strength of causal and practical conclusions. Future research should employ randomized controlled designs with active comparison conditions and follow-up assessments to establish the durability and specificity of PMR effects.

Abstract

Abstract

Addictive behaviors such as pathological gambling and smoking are two common mental and physical health issues among individuals in early adulthood. This study aims to examine the relationship between pathological gambling and smoking behavior among young adults in Kota Padang. A quantitative method with a correlational design was employed. The study involved 350 participants aged 18 to 25 years, selected using purposive sampling. Instruments included the Gambling Symptom Assessment Scale (G-SAS) to measure the level of pathological gambling (Grant et al., 2013) and the Glover-Nilsson Smoking Behavior Questionnaire (GN-SBQ) to assess behavioral dependence on smoking (Faradhillah & Dewi, 2018a). Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation test with IBM SPSS 25. The results indicate a significant positive relationship between pathological gambling and smoking behavior, with a significance value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05) and a correlation coefficient of r = 0.845. These findings suggest that individuals with high levels of pathological gambling also tend to exhibit high levels of smoking behavior. The implications underscore the need for preventive interventions targeting dual addictive behaviors in early adulthood, particularly in urban areas such as Kota Padang, to mitigate the long-term negative impacts on mental and physical health.

Abstract

This study aims to identify whether job stress has an effect on work-family conflict among female employees at Bank Nagari, Padang City. The research is driven by the growing phenomenon of working mothers struggling to balance their professional responsibilities with their roles in the domestic sphere. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was employed, involving 98 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using a simple linear regression test. The results indicate a significant positive relationship between job stress and work-family conflict, with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.117 suggests that job stress contributes 11.7% to the occurrence of work-family role conflict. The study concludes that higher levels of perceived job stress increase the likelihood of female employees experiencing conflict between professional and family roles. These findings highlight the importance of managerial policies and interventions aimed at promoting work-family balance for women in the banking sector.
