Abstract

Kajian literatur ini bertujuan untuk (1) mendeskripsikan kadar mioglobin pada beberapa spesies ikan air tawar, (2) menjelaskan hubungan antara kadar mioglobin otot dengan kemampuan menyelam atau bertahan pada kondisi hipoksia, serta (3) mengidentifikasi spesies yang memiliki kadar mioglobin tinggi dan ketahanan menyelam paling lama. Hasil analisis literatur menunjukkan adanya perbedaan karakter struktural mioglobin antarspesies, yang memengaruhi kapasitas penyimpanan oksigen. Ikan gabus dan lele memiliki kadar mioglobin tinggi serta struktur mioglobin dengan afinitas oksigen kuat, memungkinkan keduanya menyimpan oksigen lebih banyak di jaringan otot dan bertahan lama saat hipoksia. Sebaliknya, ikan nila, gurame, dan ikan mas memiliki kadar mioglobin rendah–sedang sehingga daya tahan menyelam lebih rendah. Temuan ini memperkuat konsep bahwa mioglobin berperan penting dalam adaptasi fisiologis ikan air tawar terhadap kondisi oksigen rendah, dipengaruhi habitat, kebutuhan metabolik, dan struktur respirasi.

Abstract

Kacang hijau (Vigna radiata L.) merupakan tanaman legum penting sebagai sumber karbohidrat dan protein. Peningkatan pertumbuhan tanaman dapat dilakukan melalui intensifikasi budidaya, salah satunya dengan penggunaan Monosodium Glutamat (MSG) sebagai biostimulan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penyiraman air dan larutan MSG terhadap pertumbuhan awal kacang hijau. Metode yang digunakan adalah percobaan dengan dua perlakuan, yaitu penyiraman air dan MSG, menggunakan media tanah dalam polybag. Parameter yang diamati meliputi tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, dan panjang daun selama tujuh hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penyiraman air menghasilkan pertumbuhan yang lebih stabil, sedangkan pemberian MSG mampu mempercepat pertumbuhan awal tetapi bersifat fluktuatif pada hari berikutnya. Oleh karena itu, penggunaan MSG perlu dikontrol agar tidak menghambat pertumbuhan tanaman. Rendahnya produktivitas ini disebabkan oleh penggunaan benih non-unggul, pemupukan yang kurang tepat, serta kondisi tanah yang kurang subur. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan upaya untuk meningkatkan produksi kacang hijau melalui penerapan teknologi budidaya yang lebih efisien dan ramah lingkungan. Namun, kajian mengenai pengaruh MSG terhadap pertumbuhan awal kacang hijau dalam skala polybag dan pengamatan harian masih terbatas.

Abstract

Ayam kampung dan ayam pama (Gallus gallus) merupakan unggas lokal yang banyak dipelihara masyarakat karena memiliki nilai ekonomi serta potensi sebagai sumber pangan hewani. Dalam pemeliharaan unggas, penentuan jenis kelamin sering menjadi kendala karena tidak selalu dapat dilakukan secara cepat tanpa metode khusus, padahal informasi tersebut penting untuk manajemen reproduksi dan seleksi indukan. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan penentuan jenis kelamin ayam kampung dan ayam Pama melalui pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif berdasarkan pengamatan karakter morfologi dan perilaku. Penelitian dilakukan melalui observasi langsung terhadap ayam jantan dan betina yang dipelihara secara tradisional dengan mengamati ukuran dan bentuk tubuh, perkembangan jengger, warna dan struktur bulu, bentuk ekor, serta perilaku harian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya perbedaan morfologi dan perilaku yang jelas antara ayam jantan dan betina. Ayam jantan umumnya memiliki tubuh lebih besar dan tegap, jengger lebih menonjol, warna bulu lebih kontras, ekor lebih panjang dan melengkung, serta perilaku lebih agresif. Sebaliknya, ayam betina memiliki tubuh lebih kecil, jengger lebih kecil, warna bulu lebih sederhana, ekor lebih pendek, dan perilaku lebih tenang. Selain itu, ayam Pama jantan menunjukkan karakter fisik dan agresivitas yang lebih dominan dibandingkan ayam kampung jantan. Perbedaan tersebut menunjukkan adanya dimorfisme seksual yang dipengaruhi faktor genetik dan hormonal. Penentuan jenis kelamin ayam dapat dilakukan secara praktis melalui pengamatan morfologi eksternal dan perilaku sehingga dapat membantu peternak dalam mengidentifikasi jenis kelamin ayam secara lebih mudah.

Abstract

Students' Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) remain relatively low, while the utilization of local potential as a biology learning resource is still limited. This study aimed to develop an Echinoderm diversity booklet based on the local potential of Pandaratan Beach and examine its effectiveness in enhancing students' HOTS. The study employed the 4D Research and Development model consisting of Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate stages. Data were collected using validation sheets, response questionnaires, and HOTS tests. The booklet was rated highly feasible by material experts (92.96%), instructional design experts (94.31%), and graphic design experts (86.02%). Teacher and student responses were highly positive, with scores of 99.00% and 97.04%, respectively. The experimental class obtained a higher posttest mean score (83.80) than the control class (73.95), with N-Gain values of 0.74 (high category) and 0.59 (moderate category), respectively. An independent samples t-test revealed a significant difference between the two groups (p < 0.05). These findings indicate that the booklet is both feasible and effective in improving students' HOTS. Therefore, the booklet can serve as an alternative local potential-based learning resource to support contextual biology learning in senior high schools.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a booklet on the diversity of plant-like protists on Pulau Unggas as a valid, practical, and effective teaching material to improve students’ cognitive learning outcomes in the Low-Level Organism Taxonomy course. This study used a Research and Development (R&D) method with the 4-D development model, consisting of define, design, develop, and disseminate stages. The research data were obtained through observations of plant-like protist diversity, expert validation questionnaires, lecturer and student response questionnaires, and learning outcome tests in the form of pretest and posttest. The results showed that the experimental class posttest mean score of 87.94 ± 6.23 was higher than that of the control class, which obtained 58.55 ± 6.15. The experimental class obtained an N-Gain score of 76%, categorized as high, while the control class obtained 22%, categorized as low. The Independent Sample t-test showed a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating a significant difference in students’ cognitive learning outcomes between the experimental and control classes. Therefore, the booklet on plant-like protist diversity on Pulau Unggas is feasible and effective as teaching material to improve students’ cognitive learning outcomes. Abstract

This study aimed to develop an E-Booklet learning media on the human excretory system that is valid, practical, and effective in improving the learning outcomes of Grade XI IPA 6 students at SMA Negeri 8 Medan. This research employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE development model, which consists of five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The research instruments included expert validation sheets, teacher and student response questionnaires, as well as learning achievement tests (pretest and posttest). The results showed that the developed E-Booklet learning media was categorized as highly valid, with validation scores of 92.3% from the design expert and 89.6% from the subject matter expert. The media was also categorized as highly practical, as indicated by the teacher response score of 92.66% and the student response score of 87.06%. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the media was demonstrated by an N-Gain score of 0.71, which falls into the high category, and an N-Gain percentage of 71.86%, which is categorized as highly effective. Therefore, the E-Booklet learning media on the human excretory system is considered valid, practical, and highly effective, making it suitable for improving students' learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on students' critical thinking skills on the excretory system material in class XI of Panca Budi Private High School, Medan. The research method used was a quasi-experimental design with a Pretest-Posttest Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The study population was all students of class XI IPA, with a sample of 72 students selected using a cluster random sampling technique. The experimental class (XI-4) was taught using the PBL model, while the control class (XI-5) was taught using the Direct Instruction model. Critical thinking skills data were measured using essay questions based on six Facione indicators. The results showed that the average posttest score of the experimental class (81.04) was higher than the control class (75.69). The results of the hypothesis test using the Independent Samples t-test showed a significance value of 0.000 (p <0.05), which means that H₀ is rejected and Hₐ is accepted. This indicates that the PBL model has a significant effect on improving students' critical thinking skills. The systematic application of the PBL model has been proven to create more active and student-centered learning, thereby optimizing students' intellectual potential in analyzing and solving contextual problems in the excretory system material more effectively than conventional methods.

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to create digital comics on biology and assess their suitability and effectiveness as a teaching tool for the human circulatory system for eleventh graders in terms of learning outcomes. The approach used an R&D model that was modified from the Borg and Gall model. Subjects included pupils from SMA Negeri 1 Kisaran and SMA Negeri 4 Kisaran. The data of interviews, questionnaires, and multiple choices were obtained. The findings demonstrated the validity of the eligibility level of the biology digital comics created; 94% of the material experts, 89% of the instructional design experts, and 94% of the layout experts evaluated the comics. With an average score of 88%, the created educational materials that were evaluated by students fell into the very good category. In the meantime, the effectiveness level of biology digital comics with an N-Gain value of 0.57 in a moderate category and the eligibility level gained from the teachers was 90% in a very good category. Keywords: Learning media, digital comics, biology, circulatory system Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah membuat komik digital mata pelajaran biologi dan menilai kesesuaian dan efektivitasnya sebagai alat bantu pengajaran sistem peredaran darah manusia untuk siswa kelas XI ditinjau dari hasil belajar. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah model R&D yang dimodifikasi dari model Borg and Gall. Subyek penelitiannya adalah siswa SMA Negeri 1 Kisaran dan SMA Negeri 4 Kisaran. Data diperoleh melalui wawancara, angket, dan pilihan ganda. Temuan tersebut menunjukkan validitas tingkat kelayakan komik digital biologi yang dibuat; Komik dinilai oleh 94% ahli materi, 89% ahli desain pembelajaran, dan 94% ahli tata letak. Dengan skor rata-rata sebesar 88%, materi pendidikan yang dibuat dan dinilai oleh siswa masuk dalam kategori sangat baik. Sedangkan tingkat keefektifan komik digital biologi dengan nilai N-Gain sebesar 0,57 berada pada kategori sedang dan tingkat kelayakan yang diperoleh dari guru sebesar 90% berada pada kategori sangat baik. Kata kunci: Media pembelajaran, komik digital, biologi, sistem peredaran darah

Abstract

This study aimed to describe students' understanding profile of the material on the evolution of antibiotic resistance, including students' level of understanding, subconcepts that are difficult to comprehend, reasoning patterns, misconceptions, and factors that influence students' understanding. This study employed a mixed methods approach with a sequential explanatory design. The research sample consisted of 143 twelfth-grade students from SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung Morawa, selected using a purposive cluster sampling technique. Data were collected through multiple-choice tests, essay tests, two-tier diagnostic tests, questionnaires, and interviews, then analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative methods. The results showed that students' level of understanding varied and tended to be in the moderate to low category. The subconcepts of mutation and/or gene transfer as the source of resistant traits, as well as the impact of improper antibiotic use, were the most difficult materials for students to understand. In addition, students still experienced misconceptions in explaining the relationship between mutation, natural selection, and the development of antibiotic resistance. Factors that supported students' understanding included the relevance of the material to daily life, the use of case examples, visual media, discussion, and the way teachers explained the material. Based on these findings, learning about the evolution of antibiotic resistance needs to be developed through more contextual and visual learning strategies oriented toward strengthening conceptual understanding.
