Abstract

Self injurious behavior (SIB) is one of the most critical behavioral challenges in children autism spectrum disorder (ASD), affecting their safety, social participation, and academic outcomes. This study combines a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) using the PRISMA framework with bibliometric analysis to examine the effectiveness, types, and success factors of modeling techniques in reducing SIB among children with autism. A bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer and Bibliometrix was conducted on 257 documents from 171 sources spanning 2016-2026, drawn from the Scopus database. After rigorous PRISMA screening, 11 studies were included in the final synthesis. Bibliometric findings reveal that the USA dominates research output, and key themes cluster around autism spectrum disorder, behavioral intervention, and video modeling. The annual scientific production shows a peak around 2023-2024, with a slight decline in 2025-2026. SLR findings confirm that video modeling and video self modeling are the most effective techniques for reducing SIB. Success factors include functional behavior assessment, parental involvement, technology accessibility, and psychosocial environment quality. These findings provide an evidence-based foundation for developing adaptive, technology assisted behavioral interventions in special and inclusive education settings.

Abstract

This research is based on field findings that show the still low initial reading skills of students with mild intellectual disabilities in grade V at SLB Negeri Muaro Jambi. The main objective of this study is to examine the effectiveness of using the Secil Educational Game application in optimizing initial reading skills for the students. The research design used is Classroom Action Research (CAR), which is reflective and collaborative. The research subjects involved two students with intellectual disabilities, identified as MR and MD. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, tests, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted qualitatively through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research results showed a significant improvement in reading ability. Based on the initial data (pre-test), the scores obtained were 35% for MR and 30% for MD. After the intervention in Cycle I, reading ability increased to 63% for MR and 55% for MD. This achievement continued to develop in Cycle II with final results reaching 88% for MR and 82% for MD. Cumulatively, MR's reading ability increased by 53% and MD increased by 52%. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of the Secil Educational Game media is effective in improving initial reading competence for children with intellectual disabilities.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the validity and practicality test results that have been conducted regarding the EduAutism website. The method used in this study is the Research and Development method, guided by the Borg & Gall development model, which has been modified into 6 steps. The data collection technique uses a Likert scale questionnaire. Data analysis uses a quantitative approach. The data analysis technique is carried out quantitatively using the Likert scale, where the scores obtained are calculated and converted into percentages to determine the feasibility category. The results of this study include the website validity assessed by experts, with a final score averaging 81.3% in the very feasible category. Meanwhile, the practicality test conducted with parents of children with autism residing in Padang City obtained an average final result of 88.3% in the very feasible category. The implication of this research for the public is the availability of a validated one-stop digital information access to empower parents in performing appropriate early interventions and facilitate the community in accessing autism directory services in Padang City. Further research is recommended to test the effectiveness of the EduAutism website on a larger sample and to develop more comprehensive features, such as education, health services, and interactive forums, in order to enhance its usefulness for parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Abstract

Pre-service special education teachers are expected to master a broad range of professional competencies including the ability to deliver subject-specific instruction, among them mathematics, to children with special needs (CSN). Yet how accurately these teachers in training appraise their own readiness for mathematics instruction remains poorly understood. This study examined discrepancies between self-assessment and peer-assessment in evaluating mathematics teaching skills among 61 final-year students enrolled in the Bachelor of Special Education program (S1 Pendidikan Luar Biasa) at Padang State University, Indonesia. Using a comparative within-subjects design, participants completed self-assessment instruments (18 items) after conducting a 45-minute mathematics lesson for small groups of CSN, while peers independently evaluated the same lessons using an observational rubric (14 items). A paired-samples t-test revealed statistically significant discrepancies (t = 2.907, p = 0.005; Cohen's d = 0.56): self-assessment scores (M = 4.41, SD = 0.61) exceeded peer-assessment scores (M = 4.13, SD = 0.37) by a practically meaningful margin. Notably, 70.5% of participants overestimated their own performance. The weak, non-significant correlation between modes (r = −.14, p = .277) indicates that self- and peer-assessment capture complementary rather than overlapping dimensions of teaching competence. These findings call for deliberate restructuring of assessment practices in special education teacher preparation specifically, integrating multiple evaluative perspectives, building assessment literacy, and treating discrepancies as a productive site for professional learning.[
