Abstract

This research probes the ramifications of globalization on Muslim identity in Singapore since its independence in 1965, concentrating on the four economic development phases pivotal to the nation's growth. It concurrently traces the post-independence evolution of Muslim life, specifically in religious practices and social norms. Singapore's globalization-driven economic ascent, its status as a developed nation, and its competitive business environment stand as evident outcomes. However, the Muslim communities grapple with the challenge of adapting to global shifts while preserving their Islamic identity. The study emphasizes the imperative of comprehending the intricate interplay between globalization and Muslim identity in Singapore. Employing the historical method comprising heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography, the research analyzes historical records and relics. Findings underscore the instrumental role of technology and social media in shaping Muslim identity, facilitating the dissemination of religious information and fostering global connectivity within Muslim communities. While the Singapore government's multiculturalism policy aims for interfaith harmony and recognizes the Muslim community's integral role, restrictions on public expressions of religious identity reflect the state's secular stance. This research offers a profound understanding of the complex dynamics between globalization and Muslim identity in Singapore, shedding light on the challenges and opportunities encountered by Muslim communities in safeguarding their cultural and religious diversity amidst the ever-evolving global landscape.

Abstract

Da'wah is the core of Islamic teachings. In practice, da'wah can be carried out through various methods, approaches, and patterns that are tailored to the needs and situation of the community. slam does not result in the erosion of local traditions, wisdom, and culture. On the contrary, the process of acculturation between Islam and local culture actually enriches the variety of traditions and social practices of the region. The research method is qualitative by collecting data from library research and applying Comte's Social-Culture approach. The results obtained are the breadth of the Prophet Muhammad's teachings delivered through an effective socio-anthropological approach. A clear example is the Walisongo, who adapted the art of wayang performance to the building of places of worship, such as the Gedhe Kauman Mosque in Yogyakarta, Surau Tuo Sheikh Burhanuddin Ulakan, West Sumatra, Nurul Huda Mosque in Gelgel Village, Bali and many others. In addition, there are many forms of Islam-based local community receptions, such as the Grebeg tradition in the Yogyakarta Palace, Mauluik (maulid) of the Prophet Muhammad in West Sumatra, or the Bantai Adat Tradition in Merangin, Jambi, containing da'wah messages.

Abstract

This article aims to describe the feminist movement in Indonesia in the early 20th century. This research employed the historical method, encompassing several key stages. Heuristics involved the systematic gathering of relevant sources, including articles, books and existing research related to the study. Subsequently, source criticism was conducted to assess the authenticity, reliability and credibility of the identified sources. Following this, the interpretation stage involved analyzing the collected data to extract meaningful insights and draw conclusions. Finally, the findings were combined and presented in a scholarly format through the writing of a research paper. In addition, the author collects data through the Dutch website (Delpher) which is a website that provides digitized full texts of newspapers, books, journals, and copy sheets of historic Dutch-language radio news broadcasts. The research reveals that the Indonesian feminist movement arose in response to the injustices faced by women during Dutch colonial rule in the East Indies. A key example of this inequality was the restricted access to education for women compared to their male counterparts. This disparity spurred the emergence of the feminist movement, driven by the goal of securing equal rights for women.

Abstract

This research examines the contribution of the Ottoman Turkish Empire, the Moghal Empire in India and the Safavid Empire in Persia to the formation and development of Islamic civilisation in medieval times. Using a historical and qualitative approach, the study analyses the influence of the three great powers in political, economic, scientific and cultural aspects. The findings show that the Ottoman Turks played an important role in administration and architecture, the Moghals contributed to cultural integration and monumental artistic achievements, while the Safavids strengthened Shia identity and supported the development of Persian art. The interaction between these three empires not only enriched the heritage of Islamic civilisation but also fostered mutually supportive scientific and economic progress. This research provides a comprehensive overview of how the contributions of each empire formed an influential network of civilisations and made an impact that endures to this day.

Abstract

The dichotomy between Islamic and Western education creates dualism in the education system. Islamic education, which initially focused on religious teachings, now has to adapt to the modern system adopted from the West. Educational reform has had a positive impact such as the integration of the national education system with Islamic education, increased institutional autonomy, curriculum diversification, and responsiveness to the times. The reform expands access to Islamic education to various levels of society, allowing the younger generation to get quality education. Using the literature study method shows the challenges for Islamic educational institutions in maintaining religious values while meeting the demands of modernity. Reform remains an important step in improving the quality and relevance of Islamic education in Indonesia. The results of the study show that the reform has a positive impact on the integration of the national education system with Islamic education. There is an increase in the autonomy of educational institutions, curriculum diversification, and responsiveness to the challenges of the times. The negative influence of Western domination is still seen through the emergence of dichotomies in education and dependence on Western technology and teaching methods. The reforms have also increased the accessibility of Islamic education to various levels of society, allowing the younger generation to get quality education that is relevant to the times.

Abstract

During the Abbasid Dynasty, Islamic civilization and culture grew and developed and even achieved glory. This was because the Abbasid Dynasty in this period emphasized the development of Islamic civilization and culture more than the expansion of territory. The peak of the Abbasid Dynasty's glory occurred during the time of Caliph Harun Ar-Rashid (786-809 M) and his son Al-Makmun (813-833 M). However, after this period, the Islamic world experienced intellectual stagnation that led to a decline in various fields where science and philosophy that had previously flourished began to be considered a threat to faith. As a result, the door to ijtihad was closed, the tradition of critical thinking and intellectual freedom came to a halt. Meanwhile, the Western world entered the Renaissance era (14th to 17th centuries) which marked an intellectual, cultural, and scientific renaissance. This article aims to analyze the factors that led to intellectual stagnation in the Islamic world and how the Western world managed to rise through the Renaissance. This research uses a qualitative approach with a literature study method. Data sources were obtained from a review of primary and secondary literature, including historical texts, scholarly works, and relevant documents. The analysis is done descriptively to understand the factors that contributed to the intellectual stagnation of Islam and the rise of the Western Renaissance.
