Abstract

An increase in cases of sexual violence against children triggers various health problems in children, both physical, psychological and social. This paper aims to explore the sexual violence on children, risk factors and the impact of sexual violence on children. This study of sexual violence in children refers to various empirical literature studies. Furthermore, the collection of information was analyzed using the problem tree analysis approach to find out the risk factors and their impact on children. Cases of sexual violence in the community are difficult to detect because of the lack of recognition from victims. This is because the offender called pedophile comes from within the family (familial abuse) or can come from outside the family environment (extra-familial abuse) who have established close relationships with children. Sexual violence is generally motivated by the problem of weak protection from parents which is also strengthened by socio-economic problems, low access to reproductive health education and less optimal law enforcement. Therefore, children who have experienced sexual violence find it difficult to avoid physical, biological, psychological and social risks. Children who have experienced sexual violence find it difficult to avoid physical, biological, psychological and social risks. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the capacity of parents in the prevention of sexual violence against children and law enforcement needs to complete the system of early detection and rapid response to the incidence of sexual violence against children.

Abstract

Food preferences are the level of the likes and dislikes of food, and these preferences will affect food consumption that represents the selection of a person’s diet frequency, nutrient intake and dietary adequacy. Based on previous research, food preferences in adolescents as a whole are not in line with a healthy diet, and food preferences of adolescents are a critical point that determines food preferences of adults. The purpose of this study is to analyze food preferences of adolescence and the various factors which influence it. This research was an analytical study with cross-sectional design. The samples were High School students at Senior High School 1 Inderalaya and Senior High School 1 South Inderalaya with the total number 167 ,and people. Samples were taken by simple random sampling. The food preferences data were obtained by using food checklist and hedonic scale of 1-5. Procedure of data analysis used was univariate and bivariate analysis with chi-square. Bivariate analysis showed that 61.1% of the respondent have good food preferences. Analysis of the relationship between variables showed a significant relationship between food familiarity with food preferences (p-value = 0.000) with PR= 3.459 (95% CI: 2.284-5.239) while other variables Such as the influence of peers, food neophobia, body image perception, gender, allowance, nutritional knowledge, and food taboo did not have any relationship with food preferences. The higher someone’s food familiarity level is, the higher the preference is. We suggest the school to increase food preferences for students to learn about a variety of nutritious foods balanced through a variety of activities, such as scientific discussions, a competition to create a menu of balanced nutrition, healthy food promotion

Abstract

Smoking behavior among adolescents is increasing. This condition is partly influenced by the incessant advertisements for cigarettes that offer expectations that are the opposite of their impact. This study aims to determine the effect of audiovisual media-based education in the context of changing adolescent attitudes towards cigarette advertisements. The study design used was a Quasi Experiment with a Pretest-Posttest with Control Group. The research subjects were college adolescents (students) with a total of 25 people in the intervention group and 25 in the control group. Data were analyzed using dependent t test and independent t test. In the intervention group, there was a significant difference between attitudes towards cigarette advertisements before and after being given audiovisual media related to cigarette advertising in the experimental group (p = 0.010), on the other hand there was no change in attitude in the control group (p = 0.760) . However, there was no significant difference between attitudes towards cigarette advertising in the experimental and control groups (p = 0.096). Therefore, education using audiovisual media is considered more effective in increasing changes in attitudes towards cigarette advertisements. The campus is expected to reinforce and socialize regulations related to KTR and further research can conduct media pre-testing.

Abstract

The current phenomenon shows that teenagers are into the sexually active period quickly. This condition causes adolescents to be more vulnerable to experiencing adolescent reproductive health triad such as premarital sex, STI/HIV infections and drug abuse. Higher education is an educational institution whose students are teenagers who do not rule out experiencing these problems. This study aims to determine the cognitive, affective and psychomotoric factors related to risky sexual behavior among adolescents at the college level using a cross sectional approach. The research analysis sample was 750 students from 4 study programs in one of the universities in South Sumatra which were taken by using cluster random sampling technique. Data analysis includes univariable and bivariable analysis (chi square test). The results showed that 12% of students had risky sexual behavior where 3.5% had vaginal, anal or oral sex. In addition, the results of the bivariate analysis showed that the variables that were significantly related to risky sexual behavior included cognitive factors (knowledge), affective factors (attitudes, perceptions of norms, parental roles and self-efficacy) and psychomotoric factors (negative peer group behavior). This study recommends the need for access to adolescent-friendly reproductive health services with the principle of peer educator as a means of improving soft skills for adolescents related to adolescent reproductive health.

Abstract

Sexual activity among adolescents is increasingly alarming; the results of a national survey identified about 4.5% of teenage boys and 0.7% of teenage girls have had sexual intercourse that triggers unwanted pregnancies. This study analyzed the influence of risky sexual behavior factors in adolescents on the incidence of unwanted pregnancy. This research is a secondary data analysis sourced from Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (IDHS) data in 2017 using a cross-sectional design. The study sampled 15-24-year-olds who had sexual intercourse with as many as 1532 people. Data were analyzed univariately while  bivariate analysis using Chi-Square test and multivariate analysis with logistic regression test of the risk factor model. The results showed unwanted pregnancy occurred in 8.6% of adolescents who had a history of having sexual intercourse. In addition, it will be 4.5 times greater risk of unwanted pregnancy occurred in adolescents who performed risky behaviors such as fingering and stimulating each other after being controlled by variable confounding age and age when first having sex (PR = 4.570). Therefore, equal access to reproductive health education is needed both in educational institutions and in the community as an effort to prevent unwanted pregnancy.

Abstract

A canteen in the campus environment is one of the infrastructures that educational units must own that will support educational activities if it is managed well by paying attention to the nutritional content of food and implementing proper hygiene and sanitation. This research aims to find an overview of the canteen management policy at Sriwijaya University. This research used a qualitative design with 23 research informants, consisting of 2 Vice Chancellors, 1 Dean, 2 Deputy Deans, 6 canteen owners, 6 employees, and 6 students at Sriwijaya University. Data collection was carried out using in-depth interviews and observation. The data was  analyzed using the Content Analysis method and presented in a narrative for interpretation. Monitoring of each faculty's canteen for the management of a healthy canteen has mainly been carried out by handlers or sellers. However, facilities and infrastructure, such as access to electricity, clean water, canteen area, and canteen location, still need to be improved. Regarding food quality, practices, and sanitation, the food sold in each canteen already has good nutritional content. The implementation of healthy canteen management policies has been regulated in policies per faculty, although it is not evenly distributed. It is stated that the central policy for managing healthy canteens is still being designed. The implementation of canteen management policies at Sriwijaya University is that facilities and infrastructure still need to be improved, he food handlers and canteen managers are expected to continue to pay attention to food hygiene and sanitation of canteen buildings by the Indonesian Minister of Health Regulation Number 1096 of 2011.

Abstract

Access to pornography among adolescents can inflict various threats such as pornography addiction, risky sexual behaviour, Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), unplanned pregnancies, and illegal abortions. Thus, this study aimed to identify exposure to pornographic media and the role of parents in adolescent sexual behaviour. This study used a qualitative approach with a purposive sampling technique to select informants, including 12 adolescents as key informants, 12 parents and 4 teachers as expert key informants. Data were collected using 2 methods: in-depth interviews with expert key informants and Focus Group Discussions (FGD) with adolescents as key informants. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis technique. The data validity, were assessed using a triangulation method, mainly the source, method, and data itself. This study found that low self-control in adolescents drives them to engage in risky sexual behaviour, such as holding hands, kissing, and touching their partner's sensitive areas. Exposure to pornography encouraged them to imitate the acts in such videos, ranging from masturbation to sexual stimulation of a partner. Lack of reproductive health information and parental supervision often makes adolescents make sexual decisions without careful consideration. Providing comprehensive sex education accompanied by parental supervision can be a preventive effort against deviant sexual behaviour among adolescents.
