Abstract

Food waste is a common issue in countries around the world and become the global concern that planned in SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) Number 12. Huge percentage of food waste discarded and low number of recycled shows that the existing fight is not optimal. This research aims to analyse the influence factors and strategies for reducing food waste from small scope of household level using SWOT analysis. Based on the result, the highest strength is the “Control and management over food needs by family” score of 0.357. The weakness is “No proper planning to process food waste” score of 0.481. The highest opportunity is “Ability to recreate leftover food" score of 0.39. and the highest threat is “Easy to buy food with affordable price" score of 0.496. SWOT analysis shows that the total value of the Strength (S) is lower than Weaknesses (W) with the difference of -0.312. While the total value of the Opportunities (O) is lower than Threats (T) with the difference of -0.125. So, with this unfavored position, the strategy that will be developed to reduce food waste at the household level is a defensive strategy or also called minimizing weakness to survive against threat.

Abstract

AbstractThe exploitation of sandfish (Holuthuria scabra) in Saleh Bay is so far not well managed. Consequently, over-fishing and species extinction of sea cucumbers emerge. Currently, information related to the supply of sandfish (H. scabra) is very limited. The purpose of this research was to investigate the stock status of sandfish (H. scabra) based on the fishermen's perception and fish capture information. This research was carried out in the Saleh Bay coast, Sumbawa District, West Nusa Tenggara. The method used was a semi-closed interviews with the scope of fishermen's demography, methods, efforts and catches, and fishermen's perception of the stock condition, conducted by a total of 39 respondents. The result of this research showed that sea cucumber fishermen consisted of male and female with a ratio of 46 : 54, age ranged between 26-59 years old, all were married; education level between unschooled to senior high school; fishermen were from Bajo tribe (37%), Bugis (25%), Samawa (5%) and Mandar (33%). Sea cucumbers were caught by hands for 5-6 weeks (1-4 hours per day), CPUE ranges between 2 to 25 kg (wet weight). The main reason for capturing sea cucumber was because of the ease of method (97%). 84% of the fishermen stated that sea cucumber stock in Saleh Bay declined. The research cocluded the fishermen on Saleh Bay assumed that sandfish (H. scabra) had decreased in stock.

Abstract

The Garapan river mouth forms part of the Tanjung Pasir coastal area. This region receives materials not only from coastal waters but also from domestic sewage and industrial wastewater that contains heavy metals such as Cu, Pb, and Zn. On the contrary, the Cibungur river mouth in the different coastal area, receives relatively lower amounts of domestic sewage and industrial wastewater. The objective of this study was to determine the Cu, Pb, and Zn content in the coastal sediment as well as the levels of A.indica and their relationship with water quality parameters. Samples were collected from four stations located in the Garapan and Cibungur river mouths and were analyzed for metal content using atomic absorption spectrometry Shimadzu 6300. Samples of A. indica found in the field are categorized into three diferent size classes. It is because size related to heavy metal accumulation. Results showed that bioconcentration factor (BCF) values were Zn>Cu>Pb in both locations. Small size A. indica tends to have higher values of BCF for Cu and Zn compared to medium and larger sized samples. Furthermore, the BCF values of Cu, Pb, and Zn in A. indica were higher when the sediment had a lower concentration of organic matter.

Abstract

This article examines estimates of crab catches on the Java Sea coast, with a focus on the case study of Kampung Bahari Tambak Lorok in Semarang. The research methods used include field surveys, catch data analysis, and statistical approaches to obtain a comprehensive picture of crab production in the region. The research results showed a significant decline in crab catches during a certain period, which was caused by various factors including climate change, human activities, and marine ecosystem dynamics. This research also investigates the phenomenon of “Ghost Fishing”, where nets left in the sea continue to catch fish by accident. The results of the analysis reveal that “Ghost Fishing” makes a non-negligible contribution to the decline in crab catches in the study area. Based on data from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) Semarang, it is recorded that crab catches have decreased by 30% in the last five years. The implications of this decline in catches are debated in the context of marine resource conservation and sustainability planning for the crab fishing industry in Indonesia. This research makes an important contribution to the understanding of crab catch dynamics and highlights the need for sustainable marine resource management measures to ensure the future sustainability of the fishing industry. Abstract

Striped Snakehead (Channa striata) is one of the fish species inhabiting the flooded floodplain. Currently, the striped snakehead fish population in the Lubuk Lampam floodplain is undergoing a significant decline due to continuous and unregulated fishing activities. To prevent this population decline, there is a need for comprehensive efforts in managing their reproduction. The objective of this study was to investigate the reproductive behavior of striped snakehead fish in the floodplain of Lubuk Lampam, South Sumatra. The research spanned five months, from December 2022 to April 2023, and involved the collection of fish samples from four different floodplain types: river, lebung, lebak kumpei, and rawang. A total of 284 striped snakehead fish were examined, and measurements of length- weight and their reproductive biology were observed. The findings revealed that the sex ratio of striped snakehead fish was skewed toward females, with a ratio of 1:1.7 (females to males). The size at which female striped snakehead fish reach maturity was determined to be 28.5 cm, while male striped snakehead fish matured at 29.30 cm. The peak spawning season for striped snakehead fish occurred in December, coinciding with the rainy season. The spawning grounds for striped snakehead fish were predominantly located in the lebung station in the upper reaches of the Lubuk Lampam Floodplain. Striped Snakehead fish exhibited a partial spawning behavior. Furthermore, these fish demonstrated a relatively high reproductive potential, with fecundity ranging from 5,859 to 30,321 eggs.
