Abstract

Kadmium (Cd) mempengaruhi jumlah sel-sel gonad betina (r= 0,63). Dengan demikian terbukti bahwa logam berat berpengaruh terhadap proses oogenesis kerang hijau di Teluk Jakarta. The Jakarta, Banten, and Lada Bays have been polluted by the heavy metals. The study was conducted to identify the  heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Cr, and Hg) bio accucumulation in gonads and its  effects on oogenesis of green mussels (Perna viridis). The data collected were the number of oogenium, primary oocytes, secondary oocytes, diameter, square, and volume of follicle lumens on stage-III oogenesis. The content of heavy metal was analyzed by Atoms Absorbent Spectrophotometer (AAS). The results indicated that the gonad of green mussels originated from Jakarta bay have been bioaccumulated by heavy metal. The gonad of green mussel contained Pb (600.33±544.83 ppb), Cd (32.273±28.091 ppb), Cr (527.36±461 ppb), dan Hg (0.0222±0.0264 pbb). Cd and Pb have been found in gonads originated from Banten and Lada Bay while no Cr and Hg were detected. The concentration of Cd and Pb were 6.937 ppb, 0.021 mg/L (Banten Bay) dan 6.069 ppb, and 0.018 mg/L (Lada Bay) respectively. The green mussels female Jakarta Bay originated showed a strong correlation of Cr with developing of oogenia cells (r= 0.69), and secondary oocytes (r= 0.57). All heavy metals influenced the development of secondary oocytes (Pb, r= 0.75; Cd, r= 0.57; Cr, r= 0.57; Hg, r= 0.74), square (Pb, r= 0.76; Cd, r= 0.71; Cr, r= 0.57; Hg, r= 0.70), and volume of follicle lumen (Pb, r= 0.78; Cd, r= 0.74; Cr, r= 0.66; Hg, r= 0.58). Cadmium (Cd) had effect to the number of female sex cells (r= 0.63). Therefore, the heavy metals influenced oogenesis process of green mussel at Jakarta Bay.

Abstract

The status of blue swimming crab (Portunus pelagicus) fishery in Lasongko Bay is detected overfishing and critical, so it needs to be managed properly. This paper was aimed to determine the potential and problems of sustainability use of the crab and establish strategic management based on bioecology aspects. Bioecological data on the crab were collected in 2006, and from 2013 to 2014 in Lasongko Bay. Research result of indicated high potential and sustainable of use of crab fishery in the bay. Arising problems to threat the sustainability were over-fishing, small size crab and ovigerous female catch, localized fishing ground, and unfriendly environmentally fishing activities. Some management strategies must be done to support and ensure the sustainability management of the crab in Lasongko Bay, i.e. the minimum legal size (for males >109.8 mm-CW and females >115.7 mm-CW), not catching ovigerous female crabs, and reducing use of traps up to 50%. Restocking and establishing crab sanctuary could be also important to enhance the aforesaid management strategies.

Abstract

Waste from industrial activities can be a source of pollution for the waters of Banten Bay. One source of these pollutants are heavy metals. High concentrations of heavy metals in waters can pollute the aquatic environment, endangering all organisms. Heavy metals can accumulate in aquatic environments and living organisms such as fish. The greenback mullet Planiliza subviridis (Valenciennes, 1836) is known as a fish for human consumption. Heavy metals that are contained in mullets can move to a higher trophic level within the food chain and endanger the health of humans. This study aims to analyze the accumulation of heavy metals, such as Hg, Cd, Pb, and Cu, in the flesh of greenback mullets at Bojonegara Waters of Banten Bay. The research was carried out for five months (August - October 2020 and March - April 2021). Samplings were taken from Terate River and Wadas River, which are mullet fishing areas and natural habitats of these mullets. Data analysis consisted of descriptive and quantitative analyses. The results showed that the Hg, Cd, Pb, and Cu contents were below the quality standards based on Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia (PP RI) No. 22 of 2021. The greenback mullets have experienced a moderate accumulation rate. The different rates of Cu metal accumulation in each month indicate a variation in catches with low to moderate accumulation rates. The water conditions in Bojonegara can still be seen as tolerable and still suitable for mullets usable for human consumption in a reasonable amount. Monitoring and evaluation activities need to be carried out periodically for the management of the aquatic environment in Bojonegara.

Abstract

Gold processing at artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) in Indonesia is inherently risky due to the high severity and likelihood of accidents causing serious injury. The objectives of this study were to identify hazards, assess risks, and determine risk control measures in the ASGM location at Imandi Village, East Dumoga District, Bolaang Mongondow Regency, North Sulawesi Province. The method used was Hazard Identification Risk Assessment and Risk Control (HIRARC). The determination of work stages and identification of hazards was carried out through observation at 14 ASGM units and interviews with 14 informants consisting of 6 mining workers and 8 ASGM business owners. The risk assessment was carried out by observing and interviewing 8 experts as informants selected from health and environmental scientists, various offices of the Government Bolaang Mongondow Regency, and non-government institutions. The results showed that the stage of gold processing work in ASGM consists of 13 sources of hazards that can pose 16 risks. The obtained risk assessment results showed that 19% were low risk, 31% moderate risk, 25% high risk, and 25% very high risk caused by exposure to mercury through the gold ore burning process with a risk value of 25. The identified risk control measures were PPE (personal protective equipment) 43%, administrative controls 14%, engineering controls 14%, substitution 21%, and elimination 7%. Realistic risk controls that can be applied in ASGM are a combination of administrative controls and PPE.

Abstract

Small pelagic fish stocks are the highest and most caught fish stocks for Indonesian consumption. Pelagic fish generally live in shallow water and form schools that act as intermediate consumers in the food chain (between producers and larger fish), thus requiring protective measures. This study aims to determine the growth rate and utilization of pelagic fish in Indramayu Regency, West Java. Fish sampling uses a literature review of data information from fishermen and other economic actors who utilize the pelagic fish ecosystem. Pepetek fish are expected to die earlier than tuna because pepetek fish reach asymptotic body length earlier than tuna with low growth factors in the results of studies with high growth rates. Pepetek, kurisi, kuniran, cob and tembang have very low exploitation rates below 50%. For mackerel, the recovery rate is 70.85%. This means that the average catch that occurs in Indramayu waters does not exceed the optimal limit of 50% so that there is no overfishing.

Abstract

Scientific information mangrove ecosystem at Kulisusu bay was limited. This study aims to identify mangrove ecosystems area change at Kulisusu bay within 20 years periods (1995-2015) using satellite imagery Landsat 5 TM (1995), Landsat 7 ETM (2005) and Landsat 8 OLI (2015). Analysis of the mangrove ecosystem changes was used NDVI algorithm then carried classification canopy density by three classes, high, medium and low density. The changes of mangrove ecosystems were based on the area changes of each 10 year. The NDVI results shown that on 1995 to 2005, high and medium classes were reduced respectively by 340 ha and 36 ha, low class area was 172 ha. The period within 2005 to 2015 shows that high areas were reduced by 756 hectares, then medium and low density class 22 Ha and 680 ha respectively. Conditions mangrove ecosystem during 30 years was from 1995 to 2015 shown that had been a heavy reduction in the high density class about 1096 hectares, a reduction of medium density class was 14 hectares and low class was 852 Ha. The amount of reduction in high density class was caused by the mangrove logging activities for charcoal used as raw materials, and fisherman activities likes boat lines for crab fishing ground in the mangrove ecosystem. Abstract

A large amount of domestic waste is unfortunately not matched by proper management. Like leaf waste, there is also vegetable waste in traditional markets, which is disposed of in open dumping without further management. The overflow of garbage will certainly leave environmental disturbances and bad smells. Research on the processing of domestic solid waste using a composter is generally only carried out in one stage, so the results of cutting domestic waste from the composter are still rough. In addition, bacteria administration is usually done at the end, so it is less effective in terms of time and cost. This study aims to design compost production innovations that meet SNI standards. The research was conducted by comparing the two main raw materials for the compost, namely vegetables and leaves. Based on the research results, it was found that the compost produced was able to produce fertilizer with the nutrients N, C/P, P, K, and C/N following SNI 7763: 2018. Compost with the best results is compost with leaves as the main raw material.

Abstract

The overfishing of the sandfish Holothuria scabra is increasing due to its various benefits, thus reducing its population in nature. This study aimed to examine sandfish's length-weight relationship and condition factors on the North Coast of Sumbawa Island, with sampling locations at two stations, Ai Limung (Pungkit Village), and Labu Prajak (Batu Bangka Village). The study was conducted in September-October 2022. A total of 142 specimens were obtained from both stations, 122 samples at Ai Limung station (mean length 9.22±2.12 cm; weight 43.34±25.07 grams). Then 20 samples at the Labu Prajak station (mean length 13.69±3.74 cm; weight 88.70±60.06 grams). Growth patterns of each research station are negative allometric, indicating the body length of the sandfish grows faster than its weight. Condition factor at Ai Limung station Kn=1.03±0.26, Wr=1.03±0.26, K=5.33±1.76, and at the Labu Prajak station Kn=1.05±0.28, Wr=104.88±27.83, K=3.27±1.14. The results showed significant differences in length, weight, and fulton condition factor. The mean body length and weight of sandfish at both stations are smaller than previous study, indicating the earlier sign of overfishing. Meanwhile, the fulton condition factor at Ai Limung station showed a higher value, which indicated the location was better, with abundant food sources and fewer predators
