Abstract

This research is motivated by the low ability of students to write negotiation texts, caused by teacher-centered learning and the lack of varied instructional models. This study aims to describe: (1) the process of implementing the Experiential Learning model in negotiation text writing instruction, (2) students' negotiation text writing ability through the application of the Experiential Learning model, and (3) students' responses to the implementation of the Experiential Learning model in negotiation text writing instruction. This study employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The research instruments included observation sheets, a negotiation text writing test, student response questionnaires, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that: (1) the implementation of the Experiential Learning model was carried out through four stages, namely concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization, and active experimentation, successfully creating active and experience-based learning; (2) students responded positively to the model as it helped them understand the negotiation process and develop ideas in writing negotiation texts; (3) students' negotiation text writing ability showed good results, particularly in text structure and language rule aspects, although difficulties remained in developing ideas and using persuasive sentences effectively.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe: (1) the implementation process of the Storytelling method in learning to write fictional texts in the form of short stories among eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 36 Medan, (2) students’ responses to the implementation of the Storytelling method, and (3) students’ short story writing ability after the implementation of the Storytelling method. This study employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The subjects of this study were students from Classes VIII-2 and VIII-3 of SMP Negeri 36 Medan. The research instruments included observation, short story writing tests, student response questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that: (1) the Storytelling method was implemented effectively through three stages, namely preparation, presentation, and evaluation, creating an active learning environment and helping students understand the elements of short stories; (2) students’ responses to the implementation of the Storytelling method were highly positive because the method helped them understand the material, generate ideas, enhance creativity, and express their thoughts more easily in written form, and (3) The students’ short story writing ability after participating in learning activities through the Storytelling method was categorized as excellent. The students were able to compose short stories by appropriately incorporating the essential elements of a short story, including theme, characters and characterization, plot, setting, point of view, language style, and moral message. This finding was reflected in the overall mean score of 81.84. Class VIII-2 achieved an average score of 84.71, with the highest score of 100 and the lowest score of 75, while Class VIII-3 obtained an average score of 78.64, with the highest score of 96 and the lowest score of 75. Abstract

This study was motivated by the low proficiency of Grade X students at SMA Swasta Kesatria Medan in understanding and writing anecdotal texts, as well as the lack of engaging learning media. The research problem addressed the development process and the feasibility of anecdotal text teaching materials utilizing pop-up book media. The study aimed to produce pop-up book-based teaching materials for anecdotal texts that are suitable for classroom use. The Research and Development (R&D) method was employed, utilizing a simplified Borg and Gall model comprising needs analysis, product design, expert validation, and product revision stages. The research subjects included a subject matter expert, a media expert, and 24 Grade X students from SMA Swasta Kesatria Medan. The results indicated that the pop-up book-based teaching materials achieved feasibility scores of 87.8% from the subject matter expert and 99.2% from the media expert, placing them in the "highly feasible" category. Consequently, the developed teaching materials are suitable for use as a learning medium to help improve students' understanding of and interest in anecdotal texts.

Abstract

Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk dan makna metafora dalam lirik lagu daerah Nias “Tanö Niha Omasi’ö”. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif yang menghasilkan data berupa deskriptif. Penelitian ini menggunakan teknik pengumpulan data simak dan tulis. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa ada tiga metafora yang terdapat dalam lirik lagu TANÖ NIHA OMASI’Ö adalah metafora ontologis, metafora struktural, dan metafora orientasional. Hasil analisis ini menunjukan bahwa penggunaan metafora pada lirik lagu “Tanö Niha Omasi’ö adalah untuk memberitahu rasa sayang dan cintanya seseorang terhadap pulau yang bernama pulau Nias.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berfokus pada makna leksikal dan gramatikal dalam lirik lagu "Mungkin Hari Ini Hari Esok atau Nanti" karya Anneth. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif dengan kohesi leksikal dan gramatikal. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk 1. Menjelaskan bentuk kohesi gramatikal yang terdapat pada lirik lagu "Mungkin Hari Ini Hari Esok atau Nanti" karya Anneth. 2. Menjelaskan bentuk kohesi leksikal yang terdapat padalirik lagu "Mungkin Hari Ini Hari Esok atau Nanti" karya Anneth.  Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa dalam lirik lagu "Mungkin Hari Ini Hari Esok atau Nanti " karya Anneth memiliki aspek leksikal wacana meliputi repetisi (pengulangan), sinonimi (padan kata), kolokasi (sanding kata) dan memiliki aspek gramatikal wacana meliputi: (1) pengacuan perangkaian (reference), (2) perangkaian (conjuction).

Abstract

This study examines a practice-based approach to recontextualizing Karo Gendang Lima Sendalanen repertoire into a big band format for cultural tourism applications. The study addresses the challenge of presenting repertoire associated with ritual contexts in contemporary performance settings while retaining identifiable musical characteristics. A qualitative, practice-based design was employed through four stages: pre-application, application, post-application, and reporting. “Simelungun Rayat,” “Odak-Odak,” and “Patam-Patam” were purposively selected based on contrasting musical characteristics and adaptation potential. Data were generated through interviews, focus group discussions, document analysis, participatory observation, and iterative composition development. The adaptation retained selected melodic contours, rhythmic motifs, and structural characteristics while mapping them onto big band instrumentation. The arrangements were reviewed by academic and performance practitioners and refined through rehearsal. Thirty Music Education students participated as performers and received training before a performance on November 10, 2023. The study produced three big band scores, performance documentation, and copyright documentation. The findings demonstrate the feasibility of producing contemporary arrangements in which selected musical characteristics remain identifiable. Because the performance was conducted in an academic rather than tourism setting, the study does not establish tourist reception or tourism impact. The contribution is positioned as a practice-based adaptation framework and prototype for further evaluation in tourism settings.
