Abstract

The existence of higher education in this era of technological disruption causes the practice of higher education to change fundamentally. In the past, higher education was carried out mostly face-to-face or face-to-face, now with the help of technological disruption, the educational process no longer needs to be face-to-face but online. Therefore distance education is directed to be the education of choice in the face of the Industrial revolution 4.0. The Universitas Terbuka as a pioneer of distance learning or education, which from the beginning was founded has implemented a distance learning system. The Universitas Terbuka needs to introduce and interest the public about an education system that is different from the usual one. Here the role of UPBJJ UT as part of the Universitas Terbuka becomes very important. UPBJJ-UT is required to design a promotion plan and create creative strategies in order to attract public interest so as to increase the number of students. Therefore, it is very important to explore in depth various interesting promotional strategies from various UPBJJ-UT in Indonesia. Based on the results of research using a qualitative approach, namely the interview method combined with the AISAS promotion model and the promotion mix, it was found a new promotional design that can be an example and can be applied in all agencies that implement distance education to attract and increase public interest (number of students).

Abstract

Background of Study:Librarian attitudes significantly influence user satisfaction and engagement in library services. Positive interaction between librarians and users fosters a welcoming environment and enhances service effectiveness. Aims and Scope of Paper:This research aims to explore both the attitudes of librarians in providing services and users’ perceptions of those attitudes at the Tangerang Regency Library and Archives Office. Methods:A qualitative descriptive approach was employed. Data were collected through observation and interviews with three library users selected via purposive sampling. The data analysis followed three steps: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Result:Findings indicate that the average number of visitors to the Tangerang Regency Library and Archives Office from 2022 to 2023 was approximately 136,270. Users generally perceive librarians as friendly and kind. However, users often need to initiate interaction before receiving assistance, indicating a lack of proactive service. This shows that while the overall demeanor of librarians is positive, there remains a gap in attentiveness and sensitivity to user needs. Conclusion:Although librarians are perceived positively in terms of friendliness, service delivery can be improved by fostering a more proactive and responsive approach to user needs. These findings highlight the importance of continuous professional development for librarians to enhance user experience.

Abstract

War flaming constitutes one of the perilous practices prevalent on social media platforms. This might result in discomfort associated with social media usage, leading to melancholy, anxiety, excessive worry, and disturbances in mental health. War Flaming has become a prominent issue that necessitates enhancing digital literacy on social media platforms. This study employed a qualitative methodology, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and Focus Group Discussions (FGD). Informants were selected using standard case sampling. The selected informants include the Directorate of IKP from the Ministry of Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia, SiBerkreasi, digital technology and culture experts, and specialists in social campaigns. The findings indicated that digital literacy building aimed at mitigating war flaming on social media involved creating innovative social campaigns through pertinent language and a human-centric literacy approach. This strategy seeks to engage Generation Z, empowering youth communities as proactive advocates against hoax narratives on social media. It emphasizes collaboration among governmental entities, community leaders, and journalists within the anti-war flaming educational initiative, alongside the optimization of TikTok and Instagram for disseminating positive content, and partnerships with young influencers to promote the significance of digital reputation. Creative digital literacy, facilitated by social campaigns and multisectoral cooperation, effectively mitigates war flaming on social media, enhances Gen Z awareness, and promotes mental health through affirmative material.

Abstract

Enhancing the skills and training capabilities of the Orang Rimba in Jambi Province involves various activities such as drawing skills, information literacy, and computer skills. These activities are designed to develop individual potential and provide them with the necessary tools to adapt to the demands of the times. The main goal of this training is to improve their competence and knowledge in these fields, thereby facilitating their daily lives and future endeavors while encouraging self-reliance through the acquired knowledge. Additionally, this training aims to equip them with specific skills that can enhance their opportunities for independence and success in the future. Local experts and volunteers are actively involved in organizing this community service program. They not only share their knowledge but also provide the moral support and motivation that the participants greatly need. The results of this training have shown significant improvements in the participants' skills and knowledge, which is concrete evidence of the program's effectiveness. In conclusion, the community service program serves as an effective approach to enhancing the skills and knowledge of the Orang Rimba in various fields, helping them become more independent and prepared to face future challenges.

Abstract

Echo Chamber and Filter Bubble are two subjects now under extensive discussion. The growing prevalence of social media in recent years underscores the potential effects of the Echo Chamber and Filter Bubble phenomena. One of them is the conflict raging on social media. The attributes of the Echo Chamber and Filter Bubble can influence the prevalence of war flame on social media. This study aimed to examine the impact of the Echo Chamber and Filter Bubble on War Flaming. This study used a quantitative methodology to investigate the relationship among the three ideas. The sample was chosen through selective sampling, comprising 100 respondents identified as flame perpetrators. The study's results indicate a significant correlation between Echo Chamber and Filter Bubble phenomena and the prevalence of war flame on social media. This study demonstrates that Echo Chamber and Filter Bubble significantly influence War Flaming. Echo Chamber (X1) and Filter Bubble (X2) collectively account for 41.8% of the variance in War Flaming (Y). The results indicate that preventing war escalation is challenging due to the existence of echo chambers and filter bubbles, unless stringent content restriction policies are implemented by social media companies and enhanced self-awareness is cultivated from an early age through familial, social, and educational influences.

Abstract

Character-based digital culture is a fundamental competency that every child should posses, particularly in responding to the rapid development of digital technology. It serves as an important foundation for shaping national identitiy and guiding the attitudes of younger generations in addressing various issues amid globalization and digital transformation. One effort to strengthen this culture is through game-based activities designed in an educational and contextual manner. These activities integrate national character values into the use of the digital world. The objective of this activity is to enhance character-based digital culture among elementary school students through a game-based approach. The participants were elementary school students in Rawamangun, East Jakarta. The method employed is an educational and game-based training approach. The evaluation results indicate an improvement in participants’ understanding of character-based digital culture. Therefore, games-based activities can serve as an effective alternative learning model for fostering national character values in digital interactions.

Abstract

Background of the study: Environmental cleanliness is an important factor in maintaining public health and environmental sustainability.Purpose and scope of the paper: Students of Universitas Terbuka Medan play an active role in increasing public awareness through environmental cleanliness socialization activities carried out at Merdeka Square, Medan.Methods: The methods used in the socialization include counseling, waste management demonstrations, and clean-up actions involving the local community. The results of the activities show an increase in public awareness and participation in maintaining environmental cleanliness.Results: With this socialization, it is hoped that a sustainable culture of caring for the environment will be created among the people of Medan.Conclusion : Through adequate facilities, the active role of cleaners, and high public awareness, the cleanliness of Merdeka Square can be well maintained.

Abstract

This study aims to map digital literacy and internet-use patterns among multigenerational new students in open and distance learning (ODL) and to determine whether the resulting profiles are differentiated solely by generation or also by occupational and behavioral characteristics. A quantitative exploratory design with K-Means cluster analysis was applied to data from 4,371 new students at Universitas Terbuka Jakarta. The analysis integrated generational profile, occupation, internet-access time, dominant online activity, preferred social-media platform, daily social-media duration, and digital-literacy classification. The Elbow Method indicated a five-cluster solution. The cluster represented 17.00%, 24.94%, 18.39%, 9.40%, and 30.27% of respondents, respectively. Overall, 62.18% of students were classified as High and 35.69% as Very High in digital literacy, while only 2.13% were Satisfactory and none were Low or Very Low. Cluster 3, dominated by Generation Y private employees, contained 97.01% Very High-literacy students, whereas Cluster 5, also dominated by Generation Y private employees, contained 98.49% High-literacy students. Generation Z appeared across three clusters with distinct access timed and online activities. These findings show that generation alone does not adequately explain digital-literacy patterns in ODL; occupational background and digital-use behavior provide additional differentiation. The results supports cluster-based digital-literacy support, flexible learner services, and targeted skill development in ODL.
