Abstract

Gamelan instruments, which have a distinctive tone system (scale) or are called laras, are a challenge for contemporary composers in their working techniques. In contrast to Western music which uses a “well-tempered” system, gamelan music has a distinctive phenomenon in its tone system, including the absence of standardization of basic notes and tone intervals. This article aims to analyze the concept of garap and the phenomenon of the use of laras) in contemporary gamelan music. The method used is content analysis, by taking four contemporary gamelan works that use the concept of garap on the use of a new scale, which is auditorily difficult to identify the scales in conventional musical knowledge. The content used is in the form of audio recordings and notations, which are then analyzed by various parametric musical aspects. The results show that there were two directions of garap on the tone systems (scale) in contemporary gamelan music. First, the direction of the garap is done by limiting the tones of the tone systems used in constructing the sound both vertically and horizontally. As in Supanggah’s “Thongkleng,” only five of the seven notes are used in the laras pelog. Meanwhile, in Mack’s “Crosscurrent,” only four tones are used out of the five notes in the laras degung. The direction of the second interpretation is to expand the tone by mixing other tones to build the impression of a new tone. In O’Neil’s “Lesson of Garden” and Gunawan’s “Noname and Nothing,” there is a chromatic approach to melodic contours to obscure the impression of conventional tone. O’Neil focuses more on melodic tone processing, while in Gunawan’s work, the tone processing is more rhythmic and random.

Abstract

"Grain Gamelan": Adaptation of One More Grain Band's Songs to Gamelan Pelog Slendro. Based on a recording project initiated by the label "Yantra" through one of the musicians of the group "one more grain", Daniel Patrick Quinn, the author was asked to adapt songs from their group to gamelan instruments. The songs use Western instruments that use a very different tonal system from gamelan. The phenomenon of the difference in tone system between Western instruments and gamelan is still a dilemma, especially when music creators have the idea to combine the two types of instruments. The purpose of this writing is to reveal the artistic process of working on One More Grain Band songs adapted to gamelan with the pelog slendro tone system. The method used is practice-led research/practice-based research by doing exploration, simulation, and practice. Artistically, the songs of one more grain band have repetitive patterns with a tendency to use only one chord and each pattern played has changes that can be interpreted openly by the musician. Both of these have the same principles as traditional gamelan music. In the composing process, an approach was found using a mixed 10-tone system of pelog and slendro tunings of Javanese gamelan tumbuk nem. Through the use of DAW, the adaptation process can be well organized and measured to produce audio simulations and notations that are ready to be played by musicians directly. In the process of practicing with the musicians, various communication and interpretation problems were encountered in adapting this work. Based on the results achieved, the adaptation of "One More Grain" songs to gamelan has new nuances and perspectives that can enrich the repertoire of gamelan music globally.

Abstract

Bullying can occur verbally, physically or psychologically. This action has a negative effect on the mental health of adolescents, one of which is anxiety. Indonesia is one of the countries with the highest cases of bullying. The report of bullying that happened to students of one of the SDN Cikampek Pusaka I in 2022, is one example of the high incidence of this action in adolescents. This study aims to determine the impact of bullying with anxiety. The subjects in this study were students of class I -VISDN Cikampek Pusaka I Karawang Regency. The method used in this study is Qualitative with a class action approach with a total sample of 30 respondents using purposive sampling techniques. This study used the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS) to measure the anxiety scale. The results of the spearman's rho statistical test obtained a correlation value (r) of 0.51 with a significant level (ρ) of 0.00 indicating that the value of ρ < α (α = 0.05). The conclusions of this study show that there is an impact of bullying with anxiety

Abstract

Pengelolaan sampah dapur merupakan salah satu tantangan utama di daerah padat penduduk seperti Kelurahan Akehuda. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran dan keterampilan masyarakat dalam mengelola sampah dapur menjadi pupuk kompos yang bernilai ekonomis. Metode yang digunakan mencakup sosialisasi, pelatihan, dan demonstrasi teknologi pembuatan pupuk kompos menggunakan bahan baku sampah organik rumah tangga. Hasil dari kegiatan menunjukkan respon positif dari masyarakat dengan peningkatan pemahaman dan kemampuan mereka dalam memanfaatkan limbah dapur. Program ini diharapkan mampu menciptakan peluang usaha berbasis pengelolaan sampah dan meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat di Kelurahan Akehuda.

Abstract

This article examines the use of aleatoric techniques through graphic notation in the choral music composition Acumalaka. It aims to demonstrate how aleatoric techniques and graphic notation can enhance artistic quality and musical expression. The composition process applied the practice-led research method, with the researcher serving as both composer and conductor. This approach involved the direct creation of the piece, alongside observing the choir's rehearsal and performance. Additionally, interviews with 14 singers were conducted to explore their experiences interpreting graphic notation and adapting to the creative freedom that aleatoric techniques allow. The collected data was analyzed thematically, combining critical reflections on the creative process with the singers' insights. Findings indicate that using aleatoric techniques through graphic notation enriched the musical dynamics, fostered creativity, and strengthened interactions among choir members. Moreover, aleatoric techniques and graphic notation can support innovative and collaborative musical experiences.

Abstract

This study addressed the problem that the amount of further study made to see the correlation between inquiry learning and mathematical problem solving more thoroughly was barely minimum. Therefore, the researcher used meta-analysis, which analyzed this cause from a general point of view and three partial points of view; grade, location, and field of study. The population of this study was all the pedagogic publications which included inquiry learning as an independent variable and mathematical problem solving as a dependent variable in the span of 2015-2020. The researcher found 14 articles from several portals, but only seven meet the requirements for calculating the effect size. The result showed that the average effect size could be interpreted as the medium. From a partial point of view, grade VIII had a better effect size, cities in which students scored better on national mathematic assessments had a tendency for better effect size, and Algebra was the field of study with a better effect size.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of the application of problem-based learning models on students' mathematical problem-solving abilities based on the research results. The method used is a meta-analysis by analyzing the research results in articles published nationally relating to applying problem-based learning models to increase students' problem-solving skills at the high school level. The samples analyzed were thirteen articles from nationally published journals published in the 2015-2020 range at the junior and senior high school levels, which discussed increasing students' mathematical problem-solving abilities. The instrument is a coding sheet or coding data that filters data and journal information. Based on the overall effect size analysis results, it is obtained that the average effect size value is in a large category. The findings from the analysis also prove that the problem-based learning model for mathematical problem-solving abilities is influential and effective in terms of educational level, subject matter and learning media used. The result shows that in this study, the problem-based learning model is more effectively used in improving mathematical problem-solving skills than conventional learning models.

Abstract

Music education promotes students' cultural and intellectual development, particularly in preserving traditional music. Sundanese traditional music in Indonesia, mainly through the concept of titilaras, encapsulates cultural identity and history. Modern music education encounters a hurdle as Western musical notation predominates courses, resulting in students needing help comprehending and performing Sundanese music due to the disparities in notation systems. This research examined the imperative of safeguarding Sundanese titilaras by investigating the incorporation of Western musical notation in its pedagogy to improve students' proficiency in reading and composing traditional Sundanese music. The research utilized a qualitative action research technique at Indonesian University of Education, engaging 48 students from various cultural origins and different levels of music education. The research evaluated students' skills in titilaras before and after integrating Western notation through surveys, aural assessments, and music transcription activities. The findings revealed that most pupils encountered difficulties with Sundanese musical notation while demonstrating proficiency in Western notation. Utilizing Western musical notation as an instructional instrument, students exhibited enhanced comprehension and execution of Sundanese scales, particularly in practical contexts such as transcription and melody interpretation. The study indicated that integrating Western notation into the curriculum could enhance accessibility to traditional music for students acquainted with Western systems. Thus, Sundanese music maintained its cultural integrity while fulfilling modern educational requirements. This research underscored the necessity of modifying music education to preserve local musical traditions within an increasingly international framework.

Abstract

This study discusses the important role of human resource management (HRM) in catfish farming at CV Tropika Farm. The research shows that effective management can improve efficiency and productivity in catfish farming. Innovative solutions in water, climate management and feed management also have significant positive impacts. The findings are expected to be the basis for further development in improving the sustainability of catfish farming in the future. HRM in catfish farming includes aspects of water management, fertilization, feeding and climate management. Adaptation strategies to deal with climate challenges in catfish breeding include selection of seeds that are resistant to climate change, regulation of pond temperature, water quality management, and utilization of alternative water sources. The research was conducted using a qualitative method, using primary data from interviews with CV Tropika Farm employees and secondary taken from literature, journals and data from CV Tropika Farm, Batununggal, Cibadak District, Sukabumi Regency. Good HR management can have a positive impact on overcoming problems faced and reducing risks that can affect catfish hatchery operations.

Abstract

An impeller with five blades was designed to enhance water discharge from the volute. The increased number of blades was expected to exert a more potent force on the water due to a larger surface area. However, excessive blade numbers could obstruct inlet water flow, reducing discharge efficiency. Therefore, a restriction was applied to optimize the blade count. The impeller was developed using an experimental approach, as most designs typically feature four to seven blades. Performance tests were conducted by varying the outlet pipe width through different valve openings, and the effects on water discharge and velocity were analyzed. The results indicated that increasing the rotational speed (rpm) led to a higher discharge rate. At 5,702 rpm with a 100% valve opening, the maximum discharge of 1.426 L/s was achieved, while at 3,536 rpm with a 25% valve opening, the lowest discharge of 0.18 L/s was recorded. The velocity analysis showed that the highest speed of 14.17 m/s occurred at 5,702 rpm with a 25% valve opening, whereas the lowest speed of 2.74 m/s was observed at 3,536 rpm with a fully open valve. These findings confirm that increased valve openings enhance discharge and reduce water velocity due to outlet pipe diameter variations.   .
