Abstract

The increasing demand of electricity and number of distributed generations connected to power system greatly influence the level of power service reliability. This paper aims at improving the reliability in an electric power distribution system by optimizing the number and location of sectionalizers using the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) and Simulated Annealing (SA) methods. Comparison of these two methods has been based on the reliability indices commonly used in distribution system: SAIFI, SAIDI, and CAIDI. A case study has been taken and simulated at a feeder of Pujon, a place in East Java province of Indonesia, to which some distributed generators were connected. Using the existing reliability indices condition as base reference, the addition of two distributed plants, which were micro hydro and wind turbine plants, has proven to lower the indices as much as 0.78% for SAIFI, 0.79% for SAIDI, and 2.32% for CAIDI. The optimal relocation of the existing 16 sectionalizers in the network proved to decrease further the reliability indices as much as 43.96% for SAIFI, 45.52% for SAIDI, and 2.8% for CAIDI, which means bringing to much better reliability condition. The implementation of the SA method on the considered data in general resulted in better reliability indices than using the ACO method.

Abstract

The V-shaped blade turbine is one of the turbine models with good self-starting capability, although its efficiency is still standard. Various studies, especially of foil shape and blade swept angle variations applied to V-shaped blade turbines, have been carried out to improve its performance. This study aims to optimize the ability of a V-shaped blade turbine in terms of efficiency and self-starting by investigating the effect of blade aspect ratio and solidity through several test scenarios. NACA 634021 foil and a blade swept angle of 30° were used to create the main form of a V-shaped blade turbine. The simulation results using the QBlade software show that the blade aspect ratio and solidity significantly affect the efficiency and self-starting capability of the V-shaped blade turbine. Finally, the optimal design configuration was achieved on the turbine dimensions with a height of 3.1344 m, a radius of 1.8288 m, a chord foil length of 0.2134 m, and a total of four blades. This configuration can achieve maximum efficiency of 0.441 and fulfills self-starting at the minimum tip speed ratio limit of 0.7.

Abstract

The transportations have important role in facilitating population mobility, one of the transportations are the train. In order to decrease mass, speed up the movement, and decrease carbon emission, electrification has been done, so that electrical train was created. Three-phase induction motor is chosen as a mover because of its sturdiness, lack of brush and commutator, and also shock wave. Three-phase induction motor works using induction principle therefore the excitation can be obtained from stator induction to rotor. One of the most important parameters on the transportations is braking. Regenerative braking becomes an excellent option since it can obtain energy from braking process, it converts kinetic energy to electrical energy, in that case the motor act as a generator. It can occur when the slip is negative. Negative slip can be obtained when the synchronous speed is under the rotor speed. The testing to analyze capacitors capacitance for motor excitation is needed before applying to the real condition. The test has been done in two steps, there are noload test and loaded test using dc to dc converter and battery. The result from Simulink MATLAB 2022a simulation shows that the bigger capacitors capacitance, the lower regeneration frequency produced, so that the synchronous speed will be lower, then negative slip will be bigger that can inflict bigger braking torqueand bigger regeneration voltage. Abstract

Efficiency and self-starting capability performances are the main problems in vertical axis turbines. By purposing improves its performance, vertical axis turbines have been developed with various models. One of the developments of this model is to design the turbine blades into unique shapes. This research aims to determine the performance of some unique blade vertical axis turbines conditioned on the same parameters, especially if applied in a marine environment. Turbines with helical blade (HB), eggbeater-shaped blade (ESB), diamond-shaped blade (DSB), Y-shaped blade (YSB), and arrow-shaped blade (ASB) were investigated based on efficiency and self-starting capability using QBlade software. Good performance symmetrical foils such as NACA 634021 are also applied to each turbine. The simulation results show that from the aspect of efficiency performance, turbine ASB more than HB more than ESB more than DSB more than YSB. Meanwhile, in the aspect of self-starting capability performance, the sequence is similar to efficiency performance, based on the two approaches applied. The highest efficiency achieved by the ASB turbine is 0.391 at the lowest tip speed ratio of λ = 4. The ASB turbine also achieves the best self-starting performance, which has a minimum static torque coefficient of 0.00155 and can produce the required power at the lowest marine current speed of 0.806 m/s. This performance brings the ASB turbine to produce a rated power of 52.52 kW, or more than twice the power production of the lowest efficiency turbine and has an average power gain of 3.75 kW per 0.2 m/s.

Abstract

Road, as one of the land transportation infrastructure, is important for economic improvement of an area. It needs special and regular maintenance by the local government, in order to keep the road in good condition. For this purpose, the government conducts a survey with the aim of getting criteria for determining priority of road maintenance. The obstacle in implementation of road maintenance is the lack of criterias which make difficulties in determining the priority of road maintenance. Decision-making system is needed to solve the problems of determining the priority of road maintenance. Fuzzy Analytical Network Process (FANP) can solve the problem by calculating the criteria to get priority value. This method consists of many steps, namely weighting among criteria, weighting among sub-criteria, triangular fuzzy number, fuzzy synthesis, weight matrix, and priorities. The results show that the priority order of routine road maintenance is Jl. Jakarta, Jl. Kelud, and Jl. Kyai Tamin. The accuracy rate obtained in this research is 66.67%. Sensitivity test shows that the damage of the roads and the road density are important factors in generating the weight value road maintenance priorities.

Abstract

Exploration of ocean current energy allows for the development of turbines as the primary conversion device. Turbine technologies have been developed in various types, including bio-inspired turbines, such as the humpback whale fluke turbine. In this study, the achievement of a humpback whale fluke turbine is investigated by applying various forms of foil, both symmetric and asymmetric, to obtain the appropriate foil profile. Symmetric foils were represented by NACA 0012, NACA 0018, and NACA 0021, while asymmetric foils were represented by NACA 4312, NACA 4512, and NACA 4712 foils. Simulations were performed using QBlade software, which was developed based on the DMST theory. In general, symmetric foils have a more stable performance than asymmetric foils because they produce a better performance at positive and negative angles of attack. This result is also supported by a review of efficiency and self-starting capability where symmetric foils have significantly higher CP values and positive CQ along the azimuth angle than asymmetric foils. Finally, NACA 0021 foil is recommended for a humpback whale fluke turbine based on its efficiency and self-starting capability.

Abstract

Two sided reflectors are reflectors that face each other with the function of focusing sunlight so that they fall directly on the solar module. The usage of two reflector units is intended to make the output power and efficiency of the module higher than if using a single-sided reflector but not to cover the incident light area like using a three or four-sided reflectors. The inclination angles used were 30˚, 45˚, 60˚, 75˚, and 90˚ with reflector materials such as glass mirror, aluminum, and HVS paper. The results showed that the initial peak power and efficiency were 14.33W and 6.62%. The peak power and efficiency using a mirror reflector were 19.27W and 8.97% when the inclination angle was 60˚. The peak power and efficiency using the aluminum reflector were 18.59W and 8.67% when the inclination angle was 60˚. The peak power and efficiency using the HVS reflector were 15.23W and 7.10% at an inclination angle of 60˚. In addition, temperature and load levels relationship curves were also obtained for the operation of the 20WP micro-scale solar module. It can be deducted that the addition of double-sided mirror and aluminum reflectors with inclination angle of 60˚ increases the output power and efficiency of the solar module significantly and no special pattern is formed between temperature and load levels of the circuit for the various treatments tested.
