Abstract

This study aims to explore the influence of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) on improving students' critical thinking skills in schools. PBL is a learning method that prioritizes solving real-world problems as a means to develop critical thinking skills. This study used a pseudo-experimental design with two groups, namely the experimental group that followed problem-based learning and the control group that followed conventional learning. Data was collected through pre-tests and post-tests to measure changes in critical thinking skills, as well as questionnaires to explore students' perceptions of the learning methods applied. The results showed that the experimental group experienced a significant improvement in critical thinking skills compared to the control group. The implementation of PBL was also responded positively by students, who felt more engaged in learning and more motivated. These findings indicate that PBL is effective in improving students' critical thinking skills, with supporting factors such as student engagement and teacher readiness playing an important role. The implication of this study is the importance of teacher training and the provision of adequate resources to optimize the implementation of PBL in schools in Indonesia.

Abstract

Urban forest is an important urban feature with various services for human and non-human urban populations. We surveyed three age-size groupings in Cipayung City Forest in East Jakarta using nested quadrats. This urban forest harbours 7 species of sapling, pole and tree. As the highest number of species is in tree grouping, lower in pole, lowest in sapling; in the form of upside-down/constrictive age pyramid, plant species in Cipayung City Forest may need management plant replanting to maintain its biodiversity. The highest IV is Eucalyptus globulus, which may not be able to reproduce naturally in Cipayung. The highest IV in pole grouping is C. inophyllum with a very healthy population in every age-size grouping. The highest IV in sapling grouping is C. fruticosa, an ornamental species.

Abstract

Aging is a degenerative process that leads to a decline in physiological functions and increases the risk of noncommunicable diseases. Obesity is particularly prevalent among individuals aged 55 to 64 years, with contributing factors including diet, physical activity, and lifestyle. This article reports the results of a community service program aimed at educating the elderly on healthy living to prevent obesity at Yayasan Pondok Lansia Bahagia Surabaya. The program was conducted on Sunday, March 10, 2024, from 08:00 to 10:30 AM at the foundation’s secretariat. Target participants included 25 elderly and pre-elderly women who regularly attend the foundation’s Islamic study groups and exercise sessions. The activities utilized counseling and practical methods, including health education and group gymnastics. Participants engaged enthusiastically, noting the material was both interesting and beneficial for their health. Evaluation through pre-test and post-test assessments demonstrated a measurable increase in participants’ knowledge after the program. This community service effectively enhanced awareness of healthy behaviors and obesity prevention among the elderly. The findings suggest that combining educational sessions with practical exercise can improve knowledge retention and encourage the application of healthy lifestyle practices. The program also highlights the importance of continuous community-based interventions in supporting elderly health and promoting sustainable habits to prevent obesity.

Abstract

Adolescence is a transition period from childhood to adulthood to find identity. At this time there is a feeling of wanting to try new things. Early marriage is a marriage of a couple aged 19 years or can be categorized as adolescences. One of the serious problems faced by developing countries including Indonesia. The impacts of early marriage include low birth weight, spontaneous abortion, anemia and can cause defects in babies. This happens because the reproductive organs are not physiologically mature. This study aimed to determine the correlation between reproductive health knowledge and adolescent attitudes towards the perception of early marriage. This was correlation quantitative research with Cross-sectional approach. The population of this assessment was female adolescents at SMKN 1 Kademangan class XI. The sample was taken using the simple random sampling technique and obtained 48 respondents. The data analysis used Spearman rank. The research instrument used a questionnaire. From the study, it was found that there was a correlation between reproductive health knowledge and adolescent attitudes towards the perception of early marriage. Knowledge is one of the factors that can determine adolescents' attitudes towards perceptions of early marriage. Reproductive health education needs to be given to adolescents, especially female adolescents, to form attitudes and change perceptions of early marriage.

Abstract

As women approach perimenopause, aging of the ovaries causes a decrease in estrogen production. The inability to maintain adequate estrogen levels, whether due to low production or other factors, can cause a variety of physical and psychological changes, including irregular periods, hot flashes, and insomnia. The purpose of this study was to find the effectiveness of Surya Namaskar Yoga and Chamomile Essential Oil Aromatherapy on Hot Flashes and Insomnia in Perimenopausal Women. This was a quasi-experimental study with a control group design. The sample size of this study used the Slovin formula to obtain 80 respondents. Bivariate data using the Kolmogorov Smirnov test, if the data is normally distributed then using the paired sample t-test, and to compare between the control group and the treatment group using the ANOVA test. The results for comparing the control and treatment groups obtained p = 0.031, which means that there was a significant difference in the post-test value of insomnia complaints between the control and treatment groups, and p 0.041 < α 0.05. P 0.007 < α 0.005, meaning there was a significant difference in the post-hot Flashes complaint value between the control and treatment groups. The combination of Suryanamaskar yoga and chamomile aromatherapy provides a synergistic effect in improving insomnia and hot Flashes. It is expected that yoga and chamomile aroma therapy can be used to perimenopausal women so that they can prevent the uncontrollable perimenopause syndrome.

Abstract

Reflection on the learning process and classroom management is an important aspect of the School-Based Field Practice (PLP) activities because it can provide a realistic picture of the quality of learning implementation in schools. The urgency of this study is based on the need for continuous evaluation of the learning process in Grade X of SMKN 5 Mataram to ensure the achievement of learning objectives and the effectiveness of classroom management. This study aims to describe students’ reflections on the implementation of learning, classroom management, and the follow-up of learning outcomes applied. The method used is descriptive qualitative research. The research subjects include subject teachers and Grade X students of SMKN 5 Mataram, while the research object focuses on the learning process and classroom management. The research instruments consist of observation sheets, students’ reflection notes, and documentation of learning tools. The research procedure was carried out through stages of learning observation, reflection implementation, analysis of learning outcomes, and determination of relevant follow-up actions. The results show that the learning process was implemented in a planned manner and classroom management was relatively conducive, although students’ active participation was not yet evenly distributed. Follow-up on learning outcomes was conducted through remedial activities, material reinforcement, and learning assistance. The conclusion of this study indicates that students’ reflections are able to provide constructive evaluation of the learning process. The implications of this study are expected to serve as a basis for improving learning strategies and classroom management at SMKN 5 Mataram.
