Abstract

Breast Milk is the best and nutritious food in early life for every infants born. Undernourishment in infants can cause growth and development disorders. The attainment of exclusive breastfeeding that still low in Wonoayu sub-district in 2015 becomes the base  the formation of breastfeeding support group (KP-ASI). The aim of this study was to observe the difference of exclusive breastfeeding record and nutrition status of infants aged 6-12 months of KP-ASI participant and non KP-ASI participant. This research was an analytic observational with cross sectional design. This research was done in the working area at Wonoayu and Buduran Health Center, district Sidoarjo. The sample were taken using stratified random sampling, the sample size 36 mothers of infants 6-12 months from KP-ASI participants and 36 mothers of infants 6-12 months from the non KP-ASI participants. The data collection was interviewed by using questionnaire and anthropometry measurements by using length board and baby scale. Data analysis of the research was Chi-Square test and Logistic Regression. The result showed that there was significant difference exclusive breastfeeding record between  groups (p=0.002)  but there was no difference in nutrition status of infants aged 6-12 months (p=0.547) in between both group. Mother employment status (p=0.022 OR=0.211), other family support (p=0.015 OR=O.195) becomes a confounding variable aside from implementation of KP-ASI (p=0.032 OR=3.701) which influence exclusive breastfeeding record. The conclusion of this study was that KP-ASI participant have 3,701 times higher chance to give exclusive breastfeeding the their babies compared with non-KP ASI nember there was no difference nutrition status of infants aged 6-12 months from both group it’ is suggested for Public Health Service of Regency Sidoarjo to develop and reactivate implementation of breastfeeding support group in other district to improve the practice of exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Menarche is first menstruation that an indicator of teenage girlsenter puberty phase. Nowadays the age of menarche has decreasedin tothe younger. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relation between nutritional status and body fat percentage with menarche age. This research used cross sectional design with sample size of 37 female students who had experienced menstruation and selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected by anthropometric measurements to assess nutritional status, body fat percentage using Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA). Data were analyzed by Spearman correlation test. The results showed that more than half of respondents had normal nutritional status (51.4%) and healthy body fat percentage. There was a correlation between nutritional status (p=0.029, r= -0.360) and body fat percentage (p =0.048, r=-0.328) with age of menarche among teenage girls at the Muhammadiyah GKB 1 Gresik Elementary School. The conclusion of this study was higher nutritional status (score of z-score) and fat percentage will decrease the age of menarche. Research suggestion is to normalize nutritional status and percent body fat. By maintaining consumption pattern and increase physical activity, such as cycling, swimming, and others.

Abstract

Parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often report that their children are picky eater or selective in consuming food and refuse to try new food. This may affect the adequacy of nutritional intake. The purpose of this research was to analyse the correlation between picky eater behavior and nutrient adequacy of children with autism. This cross sectional research was conducted in 38 children with autism at SLB AGCA Center Surabaya using random sampling technique. The correlation between picky eater behavior and nutrient adequacy was analyzed by Chisquare. Based on the result of this research, there was correlation between picky eater behavior and energy adequacy (p=0.007), calcium (p =0.002) and zinc (p=0.010). On the other hand, there was no correlation between picky eater behavior and protein adequacy. It is suggested that parents should increase food intake of children with picky eater behavior, especially food that contain energy, calcium and zinc. Parents should try to offer new food, so the children wants to eat.

Abstract

Stunting is a nutritional problems in Indonesia. District with the highest prevalence of  stunting in East Java in 2015 was Bangkalan. Madurese peoples is known to have socio cultural practices which related to nutrition. This study was aimed to describe s ocio-cultural aspects of nutrition that related to s tunting. This study was a descriptive study with cross sectional design. The study was done in Ujung Piring Village, Bangkalan and the sample size was 62 children who were selected by using simple random sampling technique. Stunting status was assessed through anthropometric indicators according to height for age (H/A) and compared to WHO-MGRS standard. Data on practices of socio culture in nutrition during pregnancy and childbirth, breastfeeding and children under-fi ve, were collected through interviews. Data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the prevalence of s tunting in children under fi ve in Ujung Piring Village was 29%. Practices of socio culture in nutrition on Madurese Ethnic including socio culture in nutrition of mother and socio culture in nutrition of toddler. Socio cultural aspect of nutrition which probably related to s tunting were food taboo for pregnant women, prelacteal food for newborn, infants did not receive immunization and early giving of complementary feeding. It is suggested to have an effort to decrease food taboo for pregnant women, reduce prelacteal food for newborns, and reduce giving complementary feeding early through counseling involving parent’s mothers as the key person in health communication.

Abstract

Cigarette smoke contains many hazardous substances and free radical which affect respiratory system. Watermelon “Sugar Baby” juice contain lycopene as antiinfl ammation. The aim of this research was to analyze the effect of watermelon as antiinfl ammation toward neutrophils count in wistar strain male rats exposed by  cigarette smoke. This study was an experimental laboratory research with pre and post test control group design. Sample consisted of 24 wistar strain male rats with ±150-230 grams weight and 3 months old which were divided into four groups. Control group was given placebo (aquadest) and treatment groups were given w atermelon juice with terraced quantity (1.5 ml, 2.5 ml, and 3.5 ml). Every group was given two sticks of cigarette smoked per day during two weeks then smoked with treatment during one week. Neutrophil from peripheral smear was observed by manual method and statistically analyzed using Anova Mixed Design and continued with One Way Anova. The result showed signifi cant increased of  neutrophil at second observation on control group (p=0.002) and treatment groups (p=0.000). Signifi cance decreased also found in the treatment groups’s at third observation p=0.000. Signifi cant between each group p= 0.017. There was signifi cant different between control and treatment groups but there was no signifi cant different between each treatment groups. This study concluded that there was decreased of  neutrophil in wistar strain male rats which were given w atermelon juice 1.5 ml, 2.5 ml, and 3.5 ml during infl ammation. 3.5 ml w atermelon juice which were given showed better result as antiinfl ammation..

Abstract

Female adolescent models are required to look attractive which could trigger a negative body image and rapid weight loss by involving fad diets. This study was aimed to analyze the relationship between body image and nutritional adequacy level with fad diets among female adolescent models in Surabaya. This study was a cross sectional on 60 female adolescent models aged 14-20 who were selected by accidental sampling technique. Nutritional adequacy level was assesed using food recall 2x24 hours, body image and fad diets were evaluated using modified Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ-16a) and fad diets questionnaire. Data were analyzed by chi square test. The results showed that most female adolescent models had negative body image (58.3%); energy adequacy level (80.0%), carbohydrate (86.7%), protein (56.7%), and fat (56.7%) were categorized deficient; doing fad diets (70,0%). There were moderate correlation between body image and fad diets (r=0.484) and there was a weak correlation between energy adequacy level (r=0.054), carbohydrate (r=0.188), protein (r=0.090), and fat (r=0.232) with fad diets. It was concluded female adolescent models who had a negative body image tend to do fad diets. Female adolescent models are expected to have a healthy diet and balanced nutrition, also consult to nutritionist in order to achieve an ideal body weight.

Abstract

One of nutrition problem that needs to get high attention is anemia. Anemia is a condition that develops when healthy red blood cells below normal. Inadequate intake of nutrient, menstruation, infectious diseases, and lack of knowledge can caused anemia. Monthly menstruation and growth period drive adolescent girls pronen to anemia. The purpose of this study was to analyze correlation between intake of iron, protein, vitamin C and menstruation patterns with anemia among adolescent girls. This study used cross sectional design. Population of this study was adolescent student grade X and XI at SMAN 1 Manyar Gresik. Sixty two students were selected using proportional random sampling . Data were collected with semi quantitative food frequency questionnaire, structured questionnaire, and digital haemoglobinmeter. Data were analyzed using Spearman correlation test and Chi-square test. Results showed intake of iron (r=0.635; p=0.000), protein (r=0.663; p=0.000), and vitamin C (r=0.780; p=0.000) was correlated with haemoglobin concentration similiar with menstruation pattern which also had signifi cant correlation with anemia (p=0.002). Lower intake of iron, protein and vitamin C, caused lower haemoglobin concentration. Thus, anemia incidence will be higher. Adolescent girl are expected to increase food consumption of food source of iron and consume iron supplement routinely to replace iron that lost during menstruation.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of major health problem that aff ect many people. Driver is one of the jobs that could cause hypertension due to the surrounding environment which support unhealthy lifestyles such as consuming excessive fat, smoking habit and susceptible to stress. The purpose of this research was to analyze the correlation between fat consumption, smoking habit, and stress with hypertension among drivers. This research was an observational study using cross sectional design. The samples were 74 male drivers taken by accidental sampling. The respondent was chosen around Juanda Airport Sidoarjo. The data were collected by measuring blood pressure using digital sphygmomanometer and interview using questionnaire, Semi Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire, and The Workplace Stress Scale. The data then analyzed using Pearson and Spearman Correlation test. The results of this research showed that stress (P=0,000; r=0,830) had strongest correlation with hypertension among drivers compared to two other variables, fat consumption (P=0,000 ; r=0,689) and smoking habits (P=0,004 ; r=0,331). This study concludes that excessive fat consumption, smoking habit 11-20 cigarettes/day, moderate and severe stress levels can increase the risk of hypertension among drivers. Drivers should adjust to reduce consumption of fried foods, smoking habit, and stress with suffi cient rest ± 7-8 hours/day to prevent the occurrence of hypertension among drivers.

Abstract

College students have a high suceptibility to experience stress, especially those in last semester who write thesis. If stress not managed correctly, students could experienced negative behaviour like emotional over eating that could infl uence nutritional status. Those problems even occur in nutrition students who already had proper knowledge of health and nutrition practices. This research aims to analyze correlation between emotional over eating behaviour and intake with stress leves and scors of perceived stress scale among nutrition students who write thesis. This research was an observational analytic using cross sectional design. Subjects were 34 nutrition students taken by simple random sampling. Data were collected by perceived stress scale, eating appraisal due to emotion and stress (EADES), questionnaire, and 2 x 24hour food recall. Data were analyzed using Pearson and Spearman Correlation. Results showed correlation between stress level with emotional eating (p=0.008, r=-0.448), scores of perceived stress scale with energy intake (p=0.028, r=0.376), and fat intake (p=0.002, r=0.507). Conclusion of this study is high stress level can be a trigger for emotional eating as a coping strategy that leads to over intake in nutrition students who write thesis. Since food choice could be a problem when having stress, emotional eating can be balanced by perfomed a right food choice as daily intake needs.

Abstract

Nutrition college students as a representatives in society is required to have ideal and healthy body. Besides aff ected by those demands, body image is also aff ected by nutritional status and energy intake. A good knowledge of nutrition is not always followed by appropriate practices as well as normal nutritional status and average energy intake. This research was aimed to analyze the relationship of energy intake and nutritional status with body image of nutrition college students of Universitas Airlangga. This research was an observational analytic study using cross sectional design. The sample size were 71 nutrition college student, taken by proportional random sampling. The observed variables were body image, energy intake, and nutritional status. Datas were analyzed used the Pearson correlation test, Spearman correlation test, and Chi Square. The results showed that 54.9% of nutrition college students had negative body image perception, normal energy intake (52.1%), and normal nutritional status (67.6%). There was correlation between body image with energy intake (p = 0.007) and nutritional status (p = 0.001). It is concluded that high intake of energy and overweight may leads to negative body image. Nutrition college students should make the right eff ort in achieving their desired ideal body weight through manage their food intake and doing weight monitoring routinely
