Abstract

The utilization of solar energy to support electric vehicle charging still faces challenges related to efficiency and real-time solar radiation monitoring. Addressing this issue is critical given the importance of optimizing renewable energy to facilitate the transition toward sustainable transportation. This study offers a solution through the development of an Internet of Things (IoT)--based solar radiation monitoring system capable of measuring solar light intensity in real time. The system employs a BH1750 sensor integrated with an ESP32 microcontroller to process data, transmit it to the Firebase Realtime Database, and display it via an Android application. The methodology encompasses the design, implementation, and testing of the system on an electric vehicle placed in an open area for 10 hours of observation. Results indicate that the highest light intensity, recorded at 98,321 lux, corresponded to solar radiation of 776.74 W/m², while the lowest light intensity, 69 lux, resulted in radiation of 0.55 W/m². The implications of this research include enhanced efficiency in electric vehicle charging, the advancement of IoT-based solar energy systems, and the potential integration with energy storage technologies and predictive algorithms to improve energy sustainability.

Abstract

This study investigates the viability of employing a cabinet-type dryer with a heat energy source derived from biomass combustion to dry Eucheuma sp. using Newton's model. In this investigation, seaweed was dried with air at a temperature of 55 °C. A reduction in water content of 8.1% was attained after six hours of drying. To make the data fit the suggested drying mathematical model, the data were examined and recorded. The model feasibility test shows that, with a coefficient of determination (R2) that is close to one and corrected at 0.9502, the Newton model can be used to predict the moisture content of dried seaweed after the drying process using a cabinet-type dryer with a source of heat energy from biomass combustion.

Abstract

Electricity has become one of the most crucial components of life. The steam power plant (PLTU) is the most significant contributor to the power supply process in Indonesia, with an installed capacity of 29.57%. A review of each component is required to support the sustainability of the production process at PLTU. This research discusses the heat exchanger's components in the refrigeration system at PT. XYZ. The cooling system in PLTU plays a vital role in preventing overheating of the power plant components, which can cause an interruption of the energy generation process. Following this, research was carried out on the influence of load changes on the efficiency of heat exchangers in PT. XYZ cooling systems using observation methods, interviews, and literature studies. Such methods produced data that could be used to calculate the efficiency value. From the results of the investigation, it was concluded that the performance of the PT. XYZ heat exchanger was at its best at maximum load with an efficiency presentation of 68.29% and at its lowest at minimum load with an effectiveness presentation of 59.95%. However, the value was still below the standard value of efficiency of the heat exchangers, which is 75%, so it required more intensive treatment to improve its efficiency value.
