Abstract

This study aims to design and build a cabinet-type breadfruit chips dryer powered by liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and to assess the dryer's characteristics, particularly by observing the temperature and relative humidity (RH) variables in the drying chamber. This characteristic data is critical for forecasting the dryer's ability during drying. The experimental approach was carried out in three stages: design, assembly, and testing without a drying load under two process conditions, charging and discharging. The testing time is 150 minutes, with the charging procedure taking 70 minutes and the discharging process taking 80 minutes. In general, the distribution of temperature and RH on each shelf in the drying chamber is consistent, both during the charging and discharging processes. In the charging-discharging process, the average temperature of the drying room is 45.39 C with a RH of 40.99%, while the plenum room average temperature is 77.02 C.

Abstract

Cabinet-type dryers powered by Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) are widely recognized as an efficient drying solution, particularly for small and medium-sized industries. However, the structural strength and durability aspects of these dryers often receive insufficient attention, although they operate under a combination of static and thermal loads that may potentially trigger structural failure. This study aims to evaluate the structural strength of a cabinet-type LPG dryer using the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) method by considering variations in operating temperature and constant mechanical loading. Simulations were conducted within an operating temperature range of 48.049°C to 75.767°C under a constant load of 40 kg. The key parameters analyzed include total deformation, stress distribution, and structural safety factor. The results revealed a maximum deformation of 1.094 mm and a peak stress of 1030.7 MPa concentrated in the plenum chamber area, identified as a critical zone due to the combined effects of thermal and mechanical loading. The maximum safety factor reached 15, while the minimum value of 0.24255 indicates the need for localized design improvements in certain regions. These findings demonstrate the effectiveness of FEA in predicting the structural response of drying equipment and provide a scientific foundation for enhancing structural safety and reliability. Further studies are recommended to integrate coupled thermal-structural analysis and experimental validation to improve the accuracy of the results. Keywords: cabinet dryer; finite element analysis (FEA); safety factor; structural analysis; temperature distribution

Abstract

Welding process is the joining of two metals by heating. There are two types of welding that are often applied in the field, namely gas welding (OAW) and electric welding (SMAW). Both of them have their advantages as metal connectors. This research originated from a problem that occurred in the upper arm on the welding table which experienced bending as a result of carrying the load when holding the welding disc. Therefore, CAD/CAE design is carried out. In this case, the strength and tension that occur in the upper arm are analyzed. This research aims to reveal the value of the stress that occurs in the upper arm and the safety value. Where in the design the planned force capacity is 300 newtons using the finite element method or also known as Finite Element Analysis (FEA). And the material used is ASTM A36. The results of the simulation and also the analysis that has been carried out show that the upper arm frame structure on the welding table has a stress, deformation, and safety factor of 311.987 MPa, 2.28286 mm, and 0.663488 ul.

Abstract

Santa Ana winds, which are characterized by their scorching, arid, and forceful surges, significantly exacerbate wildfire hazards in Southern California, extending to 23,000 ha, particularly in the Los Angeles region. The purpose of this study is to examine the correlation between anthropogenic influences and natural climatic phenomena, with a specific focus on the influence of regional energy policies on the frequency and intensity of wildfires. The interaction between the Santa Ana winds and landscapes that are becoming more flammable has become more intensive in recent decades, although they are a natural phenomenon. Inadequately regulated urban expansion, prolonged droughts, and elevated temperatures are the causes of this intensification. Utility companies explicitly link wildfire ignitions during wind events to their energy infrastructure, particularly above-ground power lines. Moreover, the crisis has been further exacerbated by inadequate utility modernization, delayed policy reforms, and limited investment in fire-resilient infrastructure. This study assesses the degree to which regulatory inertia and climate change interact to elevate the likelihood of wildfires by analyzing historical wildfire data, meteorological patterns, and the evolution of California's energy policies. In the face of escalating climatic extremes, the results underscore the urgent need for energy strategies that are forward-thinking and integrated and that prioritize environmental sustainability, conflagration prevention, and resilience.

Abstract

An electric motor is a device that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. One of its  important components is the armature which functions as the center of movement. Armature is paired with another component of electric motor. In order to achieve a good quality of electric motor, armature quality must be controlled through a standard experiment called balancing test. An adhesive material called putty will be added into armature if the balancing test result is not up to standard. This study conducted in one of automotive industry in Indonesia. The company face a problem in balancing test process. Putty addition carried by factory workers only based on their estimation, resulting in the mass of putty used not in accordance with predetermined standards and also inconsistent, so that the balancing process takes a long time. This research offer a solution for the problem, i.e. putty dispenser to replace the manual putty-picking process with a standardized semi-automatic one. The research objective is to analyze the quality and productivity of the putty dispenser tool design in the armature balancing process. Through 100 armature samples consist of type A and type B, this study examines the quality of the putty mass provided using the most frequently occurring value and uses the independent T-test method to examine the hypothesis that there is a real difference in cycle time before and after the putty dispenser tool. Frame strength testing was also carried out using Solidworks software simulation with 632 N loading. The results of the research on the putty dispenser tool are that the frame used is proven safe, a decrease in cycle time with a percentage of 34.16%, an increase in productivity of 34.13%, also improved quality through the aspects of %NG reduction of 42.29%, and a standardized and constant putty mass of 100 mg for armature type A and 200 mg for armature type B.

Abstract

Fire is a disaster that no one wants. Fires can occur anytime and anywhere, one of which is offices, buildings, warehouses, and even forests. Fires in buildings can cause losses in both material and non-material properties. To extinguish the fire, you need supporting equipment, for example a Fire Extinguisher Kit (FEK), which is a fire hose reel. To produce this tool, a production aid is needed in terms of gripping the workpiece that will be used as a fire fighting kit product. Fire Hose Reel production aids are production workpiece holder tools that are used in order to make accurate doubling of components to get good work results in production, of course there should be compatibility in terms of the position of the workpiece with the machine used. The fixing device is used which is designed to position, hold, and support each part so every welding performed is within the specified limits. In the process of designing and manufacturing, this Welding Tool for Production of FEK uses software to calculate the load that these production aids can withstand and for the manufacturing process tools such as cutting grinders, drilling machines and other bench work tools are used. This tool can withstand the weight of objects up to 50 kg. with a deflection of 0.055 mm.

Abstract

The global energy crisis and increasing demand for agricultural irrigation have driven the need for more efficient and environmentally friendly renewable energy sources. This study aims to design and implement an Internet of Things (IoT)-based Solar Water Pumping System (SWPS) to support smart irrigation in rural areas. The system was designed in Kesongo Village, Tuntang District, Semarang Regency, utilizing a 20 kWp floating solar power plant (PLTS) as the main energy source to operate a 2.2 kW water pump. IoT technology integration was carried out through an ESP32 microcontroller, pressure sensors, and relay modules that enable real-time monitoring and control of the pump via mobile devices. System testing was conducted with valve openings varying from 25% to 100% to evaluate the hydraulic performance and efficiency of the pump. Test results showed the highest efficiency of 46.95% at a head of 13.28 m with the valve fully open, while the lowest efficiency of 28.10% was obtained at a head of 14.88 m with a valve opening of 25%. The system proved capable of irrigating an area of 131,157.36 m² with a stable water supply. This study confirms that IoT-based PATS has great potential in optimizing water distribution, reducing fossil fuel use, and supporting sustainable agricultural resource management. Thus, this study provides an innovative alternative solution to increase agricultural productivity.
