Abstract

Switching inverter technology for converting DC to AC using Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBTs) has been implemented in the propulsion system of the Jakarta Metro. However, with advancements in power electronics, a newer technology—Silicon Carbide (SiC)—has emerged, offering the potential to reduce switching power losses by up to 30%. The effectiveness of this technology can be evaluated through simulations using MATLAB Simulink, enabling an assessment of its potential application in the Jakarta Metro system. By quantifying this efficiency gain, informed strategic decisions can be made regarding the adoption of SiC technology for DC to AC conversion, whether through the replacement of existing IGBT-based inverters or during the procurement of rolling stock for future phases. The evaluation will be conducted by simulating both existing IGBT parameters and proposed SiC device parameters under current traction motor operating conditions. This simulation aims to determine the output power required to drive the traction motor while maintaining alignment with the current train configuration. A comparative analysis of efficiency between the two technologies will form the basis of this thesis, providing insights into the feasibility and benefits of transitioning to SiC-based inverters for the Jakarta Metro.

Abstract

Abstract

Noise is an unexpected sound from business or activity at a certain level and time, which can cause reduced comfort. The causes of noise can be grouped based on the sound and noise spectrums. However, in general, noise sources come from traffic, industrial, aeroplane, and train activities. When the wheels scuff up against the rail surface, a train operates, producing noise. In this research, a design was created to monitor the noise level produced by railway facilities. This system is made using main components such as arduino uno, DFR0034 sound sensor, SIM800L, and other supporting components. The system is designed to be able to monitor and display data on the noise values that occur. The system is designed based on the internet of things so that it can display data automatically on the computer. Data can be accessed using thingspeak via SIM800L as an internet source, making it easy to observe and measure noise. This design testing was carried out using light rail transit trains, inspection trains, and lorries. Noise levels in trains range from 70 dB to 80 dB. If more than 80 dB is detected, the cause of the noise can be checked to maintain the comfort and safety of passengers and avoid more serious damage if damage is found to the facilities.

Abstract

This study evaluates the feasibility of a microcontroller-based Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) prototype for railway traction substation monitoring. A quantitative evaluative approach is employed using experimental data, focusing on reliability, response time, accuracy, and communication performance. The system integrates Arduino-based controllers, electrical sensors, TCP/IP communication, and a computer-based Human Machine Interface (HMI). Results show that the system achieves an operational success rate above 90% with an average response time below 2 seconds, indicating adequate performance for basic monitoring and control functions. However, compared to industrial SCADA standards, the system exhibits limitations in reliability, security, and scalability. Therefore, the prototype is classified as having limited feasibility, suitable for educational and simulation purposes but not for direct operational deployment. This study provides a structured evaluation framework and highlights key gaps for future development of more robust SCADA systems. This study contributes by introducing a quantitative feasibility evaluation framework for low-cost SCADA systems in railway applications.

Abstract

Manual monitoring of generator sets remains a challenge for some companies due to inefficiencies in labor and time usage. Delays in detecting the operational status of generator sets can lead to disruptions in power supply, particularly in industrial and essential service sectors. To address this issue, this study develops a microcontroller based generator output monitoring system prototype integrated with the telegram application to provide real time notifications. The proposed method includes hardware design with a current sensor installed on the generator output cable and microcontroller programming to measure voltage, current, and frequency parameters. The measured data is then compared with a multimeter to ensure system accuracy. Testing results indicate that the system effectively displays generator output information on an LCD screen and sends automatic notifications via telegram when the generator is active. If the generator is not operating, the system does not send notifications, thereby reducing unnecessary communication. The main advantage of this system lies in its IoT integration, which enables remote generator monitoring efficiently, delivers real time information to users, and minimizes reliance on manual inspections. This system is designed to enhance the efficiency of generator monitoring and has the potential for implementation across various industrial sectors.
