Abstract

The aim of this research is to improve students' reading comprehension using jigsaw collaborative learning method. This research used a pre-experimental research design. The sample consisted of 24 class XI students at Ma-Almunauwarah Loleojaya. Participants in this research were selected using purposive sampling technique. The instrument used in data collection in the pre-test and posttest is multiple choice. The researcher found that the pre-test data was lower than the posttest. It means that the results are included in the positive category. The research results obtained a sig value 2-tailed=0.0010.05. Therefore, Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. It showed that the learning outcomes of class XI students using jigsaw collaborative learning method are higher than those using conventional method at Ma-Almunauwaraha Loleojaya. So that users of the jigsaw collaborative learning method can improve students’ reading comprehension. The use of the jigsaw in collaborative learning model in English subjects implicated to improve student learning achievement. The students are interested in the learning provided and students do not get bored with learning activities so that student learning outcomes can improve well.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of code-mixing by students and lecturers in speaking classes at the English Education Study Program of Khairun University. The focus of the research is to identify the types of code mix used and the factors that encourage code mix in the learning process. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through direct observation and in-depth interviews. The research subjects consisted of 45 first-semester students and one lecturer of “Speaking for Everyday Communication” course. The results of the observation research show that there are three types of code mix used, namely insertion, alternation, and congruent lexicalization, with insertion type as the most dominant form used by lecturers. In addition, of the 13 factors causing code-mixing, the interview results revealed three dominant factors that encourage the use of code-mixing by students and lecturers, namely (1) the use of more popular terms that are more easily understood by students, (2) the subject matter containing foreign terms or difficult concepts, and (3) the limitations of code usage in the use of English vocabulary which is the main obstacle in classroom communication. The findings reveal that the use of code-mixing is an important adaptation strategy for both parties in improving the understanding of teaching materials and facilitating communication in the learning process.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine EFL students' skills in writing a thesis introduction. Five student dipilih berdasarkan level keterampilan menulis di mana kelima mahasiswa ini merupakan mahasiswa terbaik. The analysis method used is thematic progression. The student texts were analyzed for each paragraph, then counted how many sentences applied the Constant Theme Pattern, Linear Theme Pattern, Split Theme Pattern, and Derived Theme Pattern. The findings indicated that from the total 194 sentences being analysed, seventy-six employed this pattern to connect ideas. Another aspect of connecting ideas is the cohesive devices used. The higher application of definite articles, pronouns and word repetition is evident. Students majorly drew definite articles and demonstrative pronouns (e.g. this, that) which then makes it adaptable for readers to follow their idea development in a paragraph. Regarding the coherence, students in this study significantly relied on the theme of sentences to be the source of their idea development. Despite the clarity and coherence being well managed in students’ writing, the link between ideas can still be diversed by employing other patterns. Moreover, some rhemes contain new information that need further elaboration as the text grows. Students have applied the rules of thematic progression, although there are several sentences that do not comply with the principles of cohesion and coherence. Guidance and feedback from the lecturer is really needed so that writing skills are maintained, especially in writing the introduction to the thesis.

Abstract

Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) is a nutritionally rich alternative food source with a high starch content and ranks among the world's most important food crops. As a global food commodity, the development of high-yielding cultivars requires the evaluation of promising genotypes. Among the various types, white-fleshed sweet potato (WFSP) is particularly valued due to its suitability as a raw material for flour production. The increasing industrial demand for sweet potato-based flour highlights the urgency to select high-yielding WFSP genotypes to meet market needs. This study aimed to identify WFSP genotypes with superior yield potential and high harvest index. The experiment was conducted from November 2023 to April 2024 in Rancakalong, Sumedang District, West Java, using eight WFSP genotypes and three check varieties (Rancing, Sukuh, and AC Putih). A randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications and 11 treatments was employed. Significant variation was observed among genotypes for traits such as number of tubers per plant, tuber weight per plant, number of marketable tubers, total tuber count, and total tuber weight. Six genotypes—Keriting Maja, MZ 154, Sorong, MBD, PR 119, and MNHR—demonstrated high yield performance, with Keriting Maja showing the highest potential at 35.09 t ha-1, making it a strong candidate for future cultivar development.   ABSTRAK Ubi jalar merupakan sumber pangan alternatif yang unggul karena kaya nutrisi dengan kandungan pati tinggi dan termasuk dalam tanaman pangan penting di dunia. Sebagai salah satu komoditas pangan dunia, perlu dikembangkan varietas unggul baru ubi jalar dengan menguji genotip-genotip potensial dan unggul. Salah satu jenis ubi jalar yang memiliki tingkat pemanfaatan yang tinggi adalah ubi jalar berdaging putih karena dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai sumber bahan baku produksi tepung. Permintaan industri untuk memproduksi tepung membutuhkan suplai ubi jalar berdaging putih dalam jumlah besar. Hal ini menjadi pemicu agar kegiatan seleksi genotip unggul ubi jalar berdaging putih berdaya hasil tinggi dilakukan guna memenuhi permintaan konsumen tersebut. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah memperoleh ubi jalar berdaging putih dengan daya hasil tinggi dan indeks panen yang tinggi. Penelitian dilakukan di Rancakalong, Kabupaten Sumedang, Jawa Barat dari bulan November 2023 sampai dengan April 2024. Penelitian ini menggunakan delapan genotip ubi jalar dan tiga genotip pembanding (Rancing, Sukuh, dan AC Putih). Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Kelompok dengan 11 perlakuan yang diulang sebanyak tiga kali. Hasil penelitian diperoleh bahwa terdapat beberapa karakter, yaitu karakter jumlah ubi per tanaman, bobot ubi per tanaman, jumlah ubi ekonomis, jumlah ubi total, dan bobot ubi total yang menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan. Terdapat enam genotip dengan daya hasil tinggi, yaitu genotip Keriting Maja, MZ 154, Sorong, MBD, PR 119, dan MNHR, dengan genotip Keriting Maja berpotensi hasil paling tinggi yakni 35,09 t ha-1, yang berpeluang untuk dikembangkan menjadi varietas unggul baru.

Abstract

This research aims to estimate income, return-cost ratio (R/C ratio) and input optimization of Sarjana Membangun Desa Wirausahawan Pendamping (SMDWP) assited beef cattle farmers in Tasikmalaya District with different business systems, mainly to observe internalization of externalities by integrating waste management system into their business system. Data collection was conducted in September and October 2016 at SMDWP asissited beef cattle farmers groups in Tasikmalaya District. Quantitative reseach, in which the data were analyzed with statistical analysis by calculating the average income, R/C ratio and Cobb Douglass regression function to observe input optimization. Data collection conducted by census. The results of this research suggest that the highest income estimation and R/C ratio was beef cattle fattening farmers with integrated waste management system which cattle ownership is above 5 AU more, which is Rp.10.275.000 /month and 2,301 respectively. The lowest income estimation and R/C ratio was beef cattle breeding farmers without integrated waste management system which cattle ownership between 3-4 AU, which is Rp.454.127/month and 1,125 respectively. Factors that technically affect the production function was the amount of forages, amount of concentrate feeds, initial cattle weight, cattle breeds. Input application in the beef cattle farming at SMDWP fostered beef cattle farmers groups in Tasikmalaya District are not optimized, which is the amount of forages, amount of concentrate feeds, and initial cattle weight.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan sistem pemantauan detak jantung berbasis Internet of Things (IoT) yang diterapkan pada olahraga balap sepeda, memungkinkan pemantauan kondisi atlet secara real-time tanpa ketergantungan pada perangkat tambahan yang mahal. Teknologi yang digunakan meliputi sensor detak jantung Coospo HW 706 yang terhubung melalui Bluetooth dengan perangkat keras LilyGO T-Call serta protokol komunikasi MQTT yang mengirimkan data ke server untuk ditampilkan melalui platform Node-RED. Sistem ini dirancang sebagai solusi yang lebih hemat biaya dan akurat dibandingkan perangkat pemantauan konvensional. Pengujian menunjukkan bahwa perangkat yang dikembangkan memiliki tingkat akurasi tinggi dalam mendeteksi detak jantung dan stabilitas koneksi Bluetooth yang memadai, menjadikannya solusi yang andal untuk pemantauan kesehatan atlet selama latihan dan perlombaan. Sistem ini diharapkan dapat mendukung optimasi pelatihan atlet dengan memberikan data kebugaran yang real-time dan mudah diakses.

Abstract

This research aims to explore and analyse teachers’ perspectives on the teaching assistance program of Merdeka Belajar - Kampus Merdeka at SMK Negeri 1 Tidore Kepulauan. The research used qualitative method with questionnaire as the primer data and interview as the secondary data. The researcher selected three English teachers at SMKN 1 Tidore Kepulauan to involve in this research as a respondent. As a result, Teaching assistants in the MBKM program, supports school teachers with their English lessons. In addition, teaching assistants can adapt to the school and class environment and student behaviour within the class. When a manager gives him an opinion, he supports it. Second, teaching assistants also use learning media that appeal to the classroom, such as electronic media that are highly relevant today. In addition, we use several teaching strategies that can increase students' interest in learning and solve classroom teaching problems. They usually use games to boost the mood of their students while learning English. Finally, in order to grasp the student's learning progress, the teaching assistant will administer the test as an evaluation form and the test result will be evaluated by the teaching assistant. Therefore, the deficiencies in their teaching to students can be identified.

Abstract

Optimization of the amount of production to maximize profits is still an obstacle to the growth of MSMEs in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the combination of the production amount of each Bakso Barokah Shop product type and the optimization of the income obtained. A linear program of simplex methods with POM-QM software is then used to obtain accurate research results. Based on the analysis results, the maximum profit per week of Barokah Meatball Shop is IDR 2,700,000, which is six times the production of Mercon meatballs. The calculation results show that the optimal meatball production is to focus on Mercon meatball production rather than other meatballs. The results of this study can be used as a decision-making consideration related to production problems to get optimal profits.

Abstract

Sweet corn is an important commodity in Indonesia, but its productivity is low due to the use of seeds that have undergone genetic degradation. This research aims to estimate general combining ability (GCA) and spesific combining Ability (SCA) on maturity characteristics and sweet corn yield. The research was conducted in Cikajang Village, Garut Regency, from April to July 2023, using a randomized block design with 40 treatments repeated three times. Analysis was carried out using the Genotype + Genotype x Environment (GGE) Biplot method. The variance results showed a significant effect of line, tester, and line x tester interactions on male flowering age, female flowering age, harvest age, and yield. From the GGE Biplot analysis, the "mean vs stability" pattern identified GCA, with 9 lines having good GCA at male flowering age, 14 at female flowering age, 7 at harvest age, and 10 at yield. The "Which Won Where/What" pattern identified SCA, where the 3 best line x tester combinations were found at male flowering age, 2 at female flowering age, 3 at harvest age, and 4 at yield. The use of GGE Biplot makes it easier to estimate combining ability, so that lines with good GCA are recommended as parents, and hybrids with the best SCA are recommended as superior cultivars that produce earliness and high yields. ABSTRAK Jagung manis merupakan salah satu komoditas penting di Indonesia, namun produktivitasnya rendah karena penggunaan benih yang mengalami degradasi genetik. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengestimasi daya gabung umum (DGU) dan daya gabung khusus (DGK) pada karakter kegenjahan dan hasil jagung manis. Penelitian dilakukan di Desa Cikajang, Kabupaten Garut, dari April hingga Juli 2023, menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok dengan 40 perlakuan yang diulang tiga kali. Analisis dilakukan menggunakan metode Genotipe + Genotipe x Lingkungan (GGE) Biplot. Hasil varians menunjukkan pengaruh signifikan dari line, tester, serta interaksi line x tester terhadap umur berbunga jantan, umur berbunga betina, umur panen, dan hasil. Dari analisis GGE Biplot, pola "mean vs stability" mengidentifikasi DGU, dengan 9 galur memiliki DGU baik pada umur berbunga jantan, 14 pada umur berbunga betina, 7 pada umur panen, dan 10 pada hasil. Pola "Which Won Where/What" mengidentifikasi DGK, di mana 3 kombinasi line x tester terbaik ditemukan pada umur berbunga jantan, 2 pada umur berbunga betina, 3 pada umur panen, dan 4 pada hasil. Penggunaan GGE Biplot mempermudah estimasi daya gabung, sehingga galur dengan DGU baik direkomendasikan sebagai tetua, dan hibrida dengan DGK terbaik direkomendasikan sebagai kultivar unggul yang menghasilkan umur genjah dan hasil tinggi.

Abstract

Porphyromonas gingivalis is an oppoturnistic microorganism in periodontal disease that is formed at the stage maturation of biofilm formation. One of the natural materials biofilm reduction is the Phaleria macrocarpa. Phaleria macrocarpa’s leaf contains chemical compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, saponins that function as antibacterials.The aim of this research is to determine the effectiveness of the nanoemulsion of the gel Phaleria macrocarpa’s leaf  on the thickness of the P. gingivalis bacterial biofilm. The research design was carried out with a post test only with a total of 28 samples, then divided into 4 groups of treatment of Phaleria macrocarpa’s leaf extract nanoemulsion gel preparations with variations in concentrations of 30%, 40%, and 50%, as well as a control group of 25% metronidazole gel. The reading of the anti-biofilm thickness test results was measured by OD (Optical density) using an ELISA-reader. One way Anova parametric test among obtained p<0.000 results showing the effect of Phaleria macrocarpa’ leaf gel nanoemulsion extract on the decrease in the thickness of the Porphyromonas gingivalis bacterial biofilm. It can be concluded that the nanoemulsion gel formulation of Phaleria macrocarpa’s leaf extract concentrations of 30%, 40%, and 50% is effective, with a concentration 50% was most effective against reducing the thickness of the bacterial biofilm Porphyromonas gingivalis.
