Abstract

Chalcone analogs have been reported to have a variety of exciting biological activities, such as anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, photoprotective, antibacterial, and antidiabetic activities. Therefore, analogs of these compounds have been widely synthesized as intermediate compounds or target molecules in the discovery of bioactive compounds to be applied in the pharmaceutical field. The purpose of this study is to synthesize chalcone analog compounds (E)-1-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-3-(4-methoxyphenyl) prop-2-en-1-on with the microwave irradiation method and explore some of the biological activities of these compounds, including testing the antioxidant activity by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method, in vitro sunscreen activity by microplate method, and antibacterial activity by disk diffusion method. DPPH test results indicate that the compound has weak antioxidant activity, with an IC50 value of 300.43 µg/mL. However, the compound showed excellent potential as a UV B and UV A filter at a concentration of 150 µg/mL with a value of %Te of 0.73±0.10% (sunblock), %Tp of 0.07±0.00% (sunblock), SPF value of 21.10±1.46 (ultra-protection) and potentially better than benzophenone-3 as a standard sunscreen. Then, disk diffusion testing showed that the compound had weak antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and did not show antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli bacteria at test concentrations of 30, 60, and 120 µg/disk.

Abstract

Controlling Aedes aegypti mosquitoes with chemical insecticides causes resistance on humans, environmental residues, and contaminates food and water. Polygala paniculata is a potential alternative to insecticides in controlling Ae. aegypti. This study aimed to determine the effect of the Insecticide Score of P. paniculata extracts on the mortality of Ae. aegypti mosquitoes based on KT50. A total of 20 mosquitoes for each concentration were used to examine the effectiveness of 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25% concentration of P. paniculata extracts compared to a positive and a negative control with four replications. The results showed that P. paniculata extracts had an effect on Aeaegypti mosquito mortality. There were significant differences in mortality rate between concentrations (Kruskal-Wallis test, p = 0.001). Spearman Correlation test gave a p-value of 0.008 < 0.05. Similarly, there was a weak but significant correlation between plant extract concentration and mortality (Spearman correlation: r = +0.312, p = 0.008). The 10% and 15% concentrations had KT50with Insecticide Scores of 1 and 2, respectively, implying that both had no knockdown effect. A 20% concentration had a KT50 with an Insecticide Score of 3, indicating a weak knockdown effect, whereas a 25% concentration had KT50with an Insecticide Score of 5, signifying a quick knockdown effect. These results show that a 25% concentration has a quick knockdown time on Ae. aegypti mosquitoes. Therefore, extract P. paniculata extract at a concentration of 25% has a potential for use as a bio-insecticide in controlling Ae. aegypti mosquitoes.

Abstract

Stunting is a condition where a child's height is too short compared to children of the same age. This condition affects the health of toddlers in the short and long term, such as suboptimal body posture in adulthood, decreased reproductive health, and decreased learning capacity, resulting in suboptimal performance in school. One of the causes of stunting is a lack of nutrition, basic health facilities, and poor parenting practices. However, the current data collection and classification of families at risk of stunting still use Microsoft Excel, which is ineffective in processing large data. Therefore, the LVQ method, which is an improvement of the Vector Quantization method, is used to accelerate the classification process. In this study, 5 parameters were tested, and the optimal result was achieved by using 7 input neurons, Chebychev distance as the distance measure, a learning rate of 0.1, 7 epochs, and 30% of training data. With these parameters, an accuracy of 99.38% was obtained. Based on these results, the LVQ method can help improve accuracy in classifying families at risk of stunting

Abstract

The heart is a vital organ that plays a crucial role in pumping oxygenated blood and nutrients throughout the body. Heart disease refers to damage to the heart that can occur in various forms, caused by infections or congenital abnormalities. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports nearly 17.9 million deaths each year due to heart disease. In Indonesia, the prevalence of heart disease is around 1.5%, meaning that in 2018, approximately 15 out of 1,000 people, or nearly 2,784,060 individuals, were affected by this disease, according to the Basic Health Research data (Riskesdas) 2018. Many people have limited knowledge about heart health, leading to a lack of awareness of their heart conditions. This can be attributed to a lack of understanding regarding the importance of medical checkups related to heart health. Modified K-Nearest Neighbors (MKNN) is one of the data mining methods applied for classifying the risk of heart disease. The research utilized data obtained from the UCI dataset repository, which consists of 918 records with 12 attributes. To balance the imbalanced dataset with minority classes, the Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique (SMOTE) approach was used to generate new synthetic samples from the minority class. The objective of developing a web-based system for heart disease classification is to assist the public in assessing their risk of heart disease as early as possible, enabling them to take preventive actions sooner. The accuracy results of the MKNN algorithm with a 90:10 ratio are 80.37%, while with the MKNN+SMOTE approach, the accuracy increased to 84.00%. The use of the SMOTE approach improved the accuracy of low-performing data.

Abstract

Turbofan engines have been the dominant type of engine in aircraft for the last forty years. Ensuring the quality of these engines is crucial for flight safety, particularly for long-distance flights. However, their performance degrades over time, impacting flight safety. To address this issue, it is essential to predict potential engine failures by estimating the Remaining Useful Life (RUL) of the engines Deep learning, especially Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), has demonstrated exceptional proficiency in handling intricate, non-linear data, leading to improved RUL predictionsdue to their ability to process complex and non-linear data. In this project, a 1-D CNN is used to predict RUL using the NASA C-MAPSS FD001 dataset, which consists of 3 settings and 21 sensors, though sensors with stagnant readings are excluded. The dataset is normalized using min-max and z-score methods, and then segmented into sequences for input into the 1-D CNN model. Various training scenarios were evaluated, with the best RMSE of 3.26 achieved using 10 epochs, a learning rate of 0.0001, and z-score normalization. The results indicate that feature selection can produce a lower RMSE compared to scenarios without feature selection.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of the Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) cooperative learning model on student learning outcomes in technical education, specifically focusing on "The Application of Electronic Circuits" at SMKN 1 Sutera. The study employed a quasi-experimental design in which two classes were selected as samples: an experimental group taught using the STAD model and a control group utilizing direct instruction. Posttest results revealed that the experimental group achieved significantly higher average scores (80.00) compared to the control group (71.43), with a lower standard deviation (9.40) indicating more consistent learning outcomes. Normality and homogeneity tests confirmed the validity of the dataset, while hypothesis testing (tcalculated = 5.73, ttable = 1.679, α = 0.05) demonstrated the significant effectiveness of the STAD model. The findings highlight STAD’s ability to foster collaboration, inclusivity, and equitable learning, effectively bridging theoretical knowledge and practical skills gaps. This research addresses a gap in the application of cooperative learning models within technical education and offers actionable insights for enhancing teaching strategies in vocational contexts. Future studies should explore the long-term effects of STAD on skill application, student motivation, and knowledge retention, contributing to the broader discourse on innovative pedagogical approaches in education.
