Abstract

The study explores the financial well-being of Islamic banks in Indonesia, focusing on profitability as reflected in the Return on Assets (ROA) ratio. This article brings attention to the issue of certain Sharia Commercial Banks in Indonesia exhibiting poor financial conditions, as indicated by low ROA figures. The primary aim of the research is to evaluate the impact of Good Corporate Governance (GCG), Non-Performing Financing (NPF), and the ratio of Operational Costs to Operational Income (BOPO) on the financial sustainability of these banks. This research adopts a quantitative approach, utilizing secondary data sourced from financial and Good Corporate Governance reports spanning the years 2018 to 2022. The analysis is conducted using panel data regression with the aid of EViews 12 software. The study covers 11 Sharia Commercial Banks in Indonesia over a five-year period, resulting in a sample of 55 observations obtained through purposive sampling. The findings indicate that Good Corporate Governance and Non-Performing Financing significantly influence the Return on Assets, underscoring the critical role these factors play in maintaining financial stability. In contrast, the BOPO ratio does not exert a significant effect on ROA. Furthermore, the results of the simultaneous regression analysis confirm that GCG, NPF, and BOPO collectively have a meaningful impact on the financial performance of Islamic banks, as measured by ROA.

Abstract

The freshwater eel, Anguillids, is a valuable nutrition and commodity fish found in various freshwater environments. However, the world's population of Anguillids are declining because of habitat degradation, pollution, and barriers to migration, all of which are prevalent threats to freshwater ecosystems such as the Poso River in Central Sulawesi. Establishing conservation areas is one of the efforts to protect Anguillids and their habitats, which requires information on the anguillids morphometrics and genetics, where high morphometric and genetic variations are indicators of adaptation or evolution of the species to survive environmental changes. Therefore, the study aims to assess the morphometric and genetic variations  in the Poso River, Central Sulawesi. Samples were collected along the Poso River in the range of May 2021 and August 2023 . Different fishing gears were used depending on the location and Anguillids’ phase of life. A total of 150 eel samples were used for morphometric analysis, out of which 38 were selected randomly for the genetic one. Genetic diversity analysis was performed based on the Cytochrome c Oxidase I (COI).  The study successfully identified three species: A. bicolor, A. celebesensis, and A. marmorata. The key characteristic distinguishing the three species was ADL/TL ratio. Most coefficients of variation of morphometric characters of each species were above 10%, indicating medium to high variation. A total of 11 haplotypes were identified, of which six belong to A. marmorata and five to A. celebesensis. Generally, haplotype diversity was low, ranging from 0.2923 to 0.9333, and nucleotide diversity ranged from 0.0005 to 0.0046. The low genetic diversity observed in this study is likely a result of the migratory nature of Anguillids. Morphometric and genetic variations can support restocking as a conservation strategy to bolster wild populations. However, comprehensive studies must be conducted to understand all aspects impacting Anguillid resources for establishing conservation areas to protecti their populations and habitats.

Abstract

An integrated institutional approach is expected to be a solution to overcome this policy fragmentation. With integrated mangrove management across jurisdictions, it can be clearer to maintain the sustainability of the mangrove ecosystem while supporting sustainable development in the coastal area of Jakarta Bay. This study aims to develop an ideal inter-jurisdictional institutional framework for mangrove management in Jakarta Bay. The study used primary and secondary data. Data analysis uses stakeholder analysis, multidimensional scaling (MDS), and interpretive structural modeling (ISM). The results of the stakeholder classification showed that local communities occupy the subject category, the key players are the central government and regional governments, universities and NGOs occupy the context setter position, and the crowded category is the private sector. The results of the MDS analysis using RAP Mangrove show a sustainability index value for the institutional dimension of 11.59%. The institutional design of the three elements, which are divided into 11 sub-elements, shows that the availability of adequate data and planning for the implementation of mangrove rehabilitation, restoring mangrove ecosystems in damaged conditions, improving the quality of degraded mangrove cover and ponds, and mangrove rehabilitation at the multi-strata government policy and program level (multi-related sectors, regional government, and village government) are the basis for the achievement of the other sub-elements. Synchronization of regulations and policies across sectors, as well as active participation from various stakeholders, are the keys to success in maintaining the sustainability of mangrove ecosystems.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Land suitability evaluation is a crucial component that supports the sustainable development of aquaculture. One economically valuable commodity in this field is the grouper fish. Kulisusu Bay, located in North Buton Regency, is an area with potential for grouper culture in floating cages. The objective of this research is to analyze the suitability of the land in Kulisusu Bay for floating cage aquaculture of grouper. The study begins by identifying key parameters that directly affect the success of aquaculture activities. These parameters include primary and secondary data that are used to build spatial data. Subsequently, a spatial model is constructed based on this data, resulting in a spatial database. Each parameter is then weighted and scored. The final step involves spatial overlay modeling, where the weighted and scored results are used to generate a land suitability map. The research results show that a significant portion of 2,253 hectares is highly suitable, with an additional 810 hectares being suitable for the activity. These areas are primarily concentrated in the central region of Teluk Kulisusu. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the waters of Teluk Kulisusu have great potential for the development of grouper culture in floating cages. However, the support of various stakeholders, including the government, is necessary to ensure that this aquaculture activity is sustainable by implementing environmentally friendly culture practices.
