Abstract

Trichiurus lepturus has an important role at the tropic level and is an economically important fish. The purpose of this study was to examine management indicators in the form of time series of catches per effort (CPUE), asymptotic length over time, exploitation rate, ratio of first caught length (Lc) to first gonad maturity length (Lm), and spawning potential ratio (SPR). ). The research was conducted in the Sunda Strait, samples of fish landed at PPP Labuan, Banten. The analytical method used is long frequency analysis, surplus production model, and SPR analysis. The number of male and female fish observed was 396 and 299 respectively. The minimum length of male layur fish is 438 mm and 421 mm for females. The maximum length of the male layur is 843 mm and the female is 773 mm. CPUE results tend to increase from 0.416 in 2014 to 1.043 in 2019. The exploitation rate (E) of fish is 0.85 which indicates that it has experienced over exploitation. Asymptotic length 938.33 mm. The whitefish caught for the first time at Lc = 579.5 mm had an SPR of 13.10% and at Lm = 718.5 mm it had a fairly high SPR of 31.7%. Catch size occurs before layur fish spawn. SPR below the biological reference point. However, in 2019 there was an increase in catches allegedly due to a pause in fishing due to the tsunami in 2018.

Abstract

AbstractTuna fishery activities using pole and line fishing gear and tonda have the risk of causing vulnerability (ecological risk) which can disrupt the sustainability of tuna stocks. For this reason, a study was conducted to assess vulnerability which is a parameter of ecological risk using the productivity and susceptibility analysis (PSA) approach to the fish’s species are albacares (baby tuna), mackerel, lemadang, and skipjack. Biological and ecological data collection from pole and line fishing gear was carried out in Flores and trolling and tonda in Pelabuhanratu. Furthermore, laboratory analysis was carried out at the fisheries biology laboratory, Department of Aquatic Resources Management, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences IPB. The results of productivity and susceptibility analysis of the pole and line for baby tuna and Euthynnus are 1.42 and 1.98.  This value shows the level of vulnerability where the ecological risk of tuna is high and baby tuna also low. The PSA analysis of the tonda for baby tuna was 2.34; lemadang was 2.34; and skipjack was 2.18. This value indicates that the high vulnerability and ecological risk of the three species of fish are also high due to the use of tonda. The use of pole and line fishing gear and tonda lines in tuna fisheries causes a high risk for albacares (baby tuna), mackerel, lemadang, and skipjack.

Abstract

Abstract. As one of the coastal ecosystem, coral reef ecosystem is a magnificent marine ecosystem, where their species richness and composition play an important role for the ability of coral reef ecosystem to respond to the fishing activity and other stressors, where fishing has impacted the fish community, target or non-target reef fish species. The dynamic of reef fish resources, especially the target species, become one of the aspects that must be considered in the management and utilization of the fisheries resources in the coral reef ecosystem and their surrounding area. The purpose of the study was to analyze the dynamics of the target fish in the coral reef fishing activity at the coastal area of Ternate Island, from the growth, mortality and exploitation ratio aspect. The research was conduct from April to August 2018 in the coastal area of Ternate Island. The data sampling was growth parameters data through length and weight measurement. Total sample measure along the research time was 6245 sample (consist of seven family and 11 species). The result shows that the target fish have asymptotic length (L∞) range from 263.16–483.16 mm, with growth coefficient (K) ranging from 0.61–0.92 per year. The theoretic age at length 0 (t0) ranges from minus 0.0825–0.1669 year (equal to 30-61 day). The fishing mortality rate (F) is lower than the natural mortality rate (M), which resulting the exploitation rate (E) for the target fish mostly under 50%, which indicated that the utilization of the reef fishes in the coastal area of Ternate Island is still under-exploited.Keywords: Exploitation rate, Growth parameters, Length-weight relationship, Mortality rate, Stock assessment

Abstract

Highlight Research:Spawning potential ratio (SPR) based on the length and frequency data is a substitution approach for data-poor management in fisheriesGonad maturity is an indicator to ensure recruitment and stock sustainability. Therefore important to evaluate the impact of fishing capture on the size and length of fishSpawning potential ratio of skipjack relatively low and potential medium impact on risk sustainability AbstractWhen data is limited, management measurement from fisheries makes it possible to use natural history data to analyze the potential spawning ratio (SPR). This research aimed to determine skipjack fish management measure from the Indian Ocean landed at Cilacap Fishing Port through the SPR approach. The study was conducted in December 2014 to March 2015 using length and reproduction data. The analysis consisted of the size structure, growth rate, and asymptotic length that were analyzed using FISAT II program and length at fifty percent maturity (Lm50). The SPR analysis used SPR software from the application in http://barefootecologist.com.au/lbspr. The size distributions of skipjack obtained were a length of 220-790 mm and an average dominant length of 311-371 mm. The asymptotic length obtained was 831.57 mm, with growth rate and natural mortality of 1.1 and 1.44 per year respectively. The population proportion of 50% reaching gonad maturity (Lm50) was found at a length of 494.75 mm and (Lm95 = 522.39 mm) with an M/k ratio of 1.309. The length selectivity level was caught 50% (SL50 = 317.36 mm) and 95% (SL95 = 373.1 mm). The spawning potential ratio (SPR) ranged from 2-4 with an average of 4% during observation. The SPR potential, which is lower from the standardized threshold of 40%, indicates many young fish populations are caught, and the potential for overfishing is high, high risk, and low sustainability.
