Abstract

Corruption, as an extraordinary crime, remains a serious problem in Indonesia, including in South Sulawesi, despite various legal measures having been implemented. This highlights the need for reinforcement through a cultural approach grounded in ethical values. This study aims to analyze ethical values within the Bugis-Makassar cultural philosophy and their relevance to corruption prevention. The method employed is qualitative, involving a literature review through documentation and thematic analysis. The findings indicate that the values of Sipakatau’, Sipakalebbi’, and Sipakainge’ play a strategic role in shaping individuals of integrity and ethical character. The value of Sipakatau’ fosters respect for others’ rights; Sipakalebbi’ strengthens a culture of appreciation and social responsibility; while Sipakainge’ functions as a social control mechanism through a culture of mutual reminders. The integration of these three values has the potential to cultivate moral awareness and a sense of shame (Siri’), which serve as a bulwark against corrupt behavior. The contribution of this research is to offer a framework for corruption prevention based on local wisdom as a complement to formal legal approaches.

Abstract

Bullying is a common social problem in schools and affects students' psychological well-being, emotions, and social interactions. This phenomenon also occurs at SMAN 1 Gowa, particularly in the form of verbal and relational bullying. This community service activity aims to enhance the values of Bugis-Makassar local wisdom, namely sipakatau, sipakainge, and sipakalebbi, as a way to prevent bullying through a psychoeducational approach. The implementation method includes several stages: observation and problem identification, program socialization, psychoeducational training, mentoring, and activity evaluation. The program is implemented using methods such as interactive lectures, group discussions, simulations, and role-playing involving both teachers and students. The results of these activities indicate that students increasingly understand the impacts of bullying and are increasingly aware of the importance of fostering social relationships based on mutual respect and appreciation. The internal application of the values of sipakatau, sipakainge, and sipakalebbi also encourages empathy, concern for others, and the courage to remind each other to prevent bullying. In addition, teachers also gained new insights into the importance of integrating local culture into character building within the school environment. This activity demonstrated that strengthening local wisdom through a psychoeducational approach can be an effective prevention strategy in creating a safe, inclusive, and bullying-free school environment.

Abstract

Abstract

One of the areas located on the outskirts of a major city and experiencing the impacts of rapid housing development is Subdistrict Tamangapa, District Manggala, Makassar City. The total area of Tamangapa Subdistrict is 6,062 hectares, of which 4,499 hectares are agricultural land. Lands that were once used for agriculture or left as open fields have now been converted into modern residential complexes. This transformation has brought various consequences for the local community, particularly in economic and social aspects. The research method employed in this study is qualitative, utilizing observation, interviews, and documentation techniques for data collection. The findings indicate that housing development has led to significant changes in the economic and social life of the community. From an economic perspective, housing development has created new employment opportunities, such as in construction and services, which have been positively utilized by the local residents. A shift in livelihood from the agrarian sector to the informal or service sector has become an inevitable reality that the community must adapt to. From a social perspective, housing development has created a social divide between newcomers and indigenous residents, both in terms of social interactions and access to social facilities. This can be observed in the modern lifestyle brought by the new residents, which at times does not align with the traditional values upheld by the local community.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the perceptions of students in the Social Studies Education Study Program at Makassar State University toward value-based learning, the level of students’ social sensitivity, and the relationship between these two variables. This research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. Data were collected through a closed-ended questionnaire distributed to 165 Social Studies Education students at Universitas Negeri Makassar and were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical techniques assisted by IBM SPSS. The results indicate that students’ perceptions of value-based learning fall within the moderate to high category, with a predominance of the moderate category, suggesting that value-based learning has been implemented and reasonably well received, although not yet optimal. Students’ social sensitivity is in the moderate category, particularly in the indicators of critical awareness, social concern, and sensitivity to the social environment. Furthermore, the analysis reveals a very strong and significant relationship between students’ perceptions of value-based learning and their social sensitivity. These findings conclude that value-based learning plays a strategic role in enhancing students’ social sensitivity; therefore, it needs to be developed in a more integrated, reflective, and contextual manner in Social Studies learning at the higher education level.

Abstract

This study stems from the importance of preserving local cultural values in the digital age, particularly in social studies learning, through technology-based innovations that support the internalization of Pangadereng values. This study aims to examine the influence of digital media on the transformation and internalization of Pangadereng values (Ade', Bicara, Rapang, Wari', and Sara') to improve the digital ethnopedagogy of junior high school students. This study employed a mixed-methods approach with an exploratory sequential design, incorporating in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and questionnaires. Qualitative data were analyzed thematically, while quantitative data were processed using descriptive statistics and simple linear regression. The findings show that digital media significantly improves students' understanding of Pangadereng values and correlates positively with an increase in digital ethnopedagogy, contributing 38%. Ade' and Sara' show the highest level of internalization, while Bicara, Rapang’, and Wari' require more innovative and context-based pedagogical strategies.
