Abstract

Abstract

Midwife competence is essential for improving maternal and child health services, especially in stunting prevention. Despite existing programs, many midwives do not meet required competency standards. This study evaluated the effectiveness of Participatory, Innovative, and Collaborative (PILAR)-based training in West Nias Regency. Using a quasi-experimental design, 52 midwives were divided equally into an intervention group receiving PILAR training and a control group without training. Competence was assessed via pretest and posttest evaluations. The intervention group’s mean score increased significantly from 33.42 (SD = 5.87) to 56.57 (SD = 5.22) (p = 0.027), while the control group showed minimal change, from 29.15 (SD = 3.17) to 31.50 (SD = 3.77) (p = 0.209). The gain score difference between groups was significant (p = 0.001), with the intervention group improving by 23.62 (SD = 6.76) versus 2.07 (SD = 2.08) in the control. PILAR-based training effectively enhances midwives’ competence, providing an innovative model to strengthen maternal and child health services.

Abstract

This community engagement program aimed to strengthen the Pancasila Student Profile (P5) through the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity) theme at SMP Swasta Sultan Agung, Pematangsiantar. Implemented in September and October 2023 with mentoring for 444 students, the project showcased traditional houses, culinary products, and ethnic fashion to celebrate Indonesia’s cultural diversity. Methods included project design workshops, group mentoring, participant observation, artifact documentation, and reflective sessions. Findings indicate high student engagement, increased knowledge of cultural diversity, and strengthened tolerance and patriotism. The discussion highlights that contextual, authentic, and collaborative project design effectively nurtures P5 elements under the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika theme. We recommend enhancing authentic assessment tools (rubrics for attitudes/ products) and facilitator training to scale up the program. Structured and contextualized culture-based mentoring effectively internalizes diversity values and boosts students’ love for Indonesia.ABSTRAKKegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan menguatkan profil pelajar Pancasila melalui tema Bhinneka Tunggal Ika di SMP Swasta Sultan Agung Pematangsiantar.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of a Lesson Study-Based Principal Competency Management Model in improving the quality of academic supervision and learning in public senior high schools (SMA Negeri) in Langkat Regency. Using a Research and Development (R&D) approach, the model was designed through a series of stages: preliminary study, model development, limited trials, extended trials, and final implementation. The model integrates the core principles of Lesson Study (Plan–Do–See–Act) into the principal's role as an instructional leader. The results showed that the model is valid, practical, and effective. Principals who implemented the model demonstrated increased competence in academic supervision, engaged in reflective discussions with teachers, and supported the improvement of teaching practices. The Lesson Study cycle empowered principals not only as administrators but also as facilitators of professional learning. The model also fostered a collaborative culture among educators and had a positive impact on the quality of classroom instruction. Based on these findings, the model is recommended for broader implementation and policy integration in professional development programs for school leaders.

Abstract

Teacher performance constitutes a critical determinant of educational effectiveness and institutional quality. Within contemporary educational settings, the capacity to maintain an equilibrium between professional responsibilities and personal life (work life balance) as well as the proactive modification of work roles to align with one’s strengths and preferences (job crafting) are increasingly recognized as influential factors shaping teacher outcomes. This study investigates the extent to which work–life balance and job crafting affect the performance of teachers at Sultan Agung Private Junior High School Pematangsiantar. Employing a quantitative research design with a survey approach, data were gathered from 31 teachers through a structured Likert-scale questionnaire and subsequently analyzed using multiple linear regression. The findings reveal that work–life balance exerts a positive and statistically significant effect on teacher performance, whereas job crafting demonstrates a positive yet statistically insignificant contribution. Collectively, both predictors account for 64% of the variance in teacher performance. These results underscore the dominant role of work–life balance as a determinant of performance within private educational institutions and suggest that job crafting may require stronger organizational facilitation to manifest its potential impact. The study recommends that school administrators strengthen policies that support work–life balance and cultivate organizational conditions that enable teachers to engage more effectively in adaptive job crafting practices.
