Abstract

The process of learning mathematics is determined by cognitive aspects and requires an affective domain. The affective domain is essential in developing mathematical abilities to solve mathematical problems. This study aims to analyze the effect of mathematical resilience (RM) and habits of mind (HOM) on socio-mathematical norms (SMN) in mathematics learning. The research method used is quantitative, with survey techniques and structured inquiry models. The sample in this study was 100 high school students in the DKI Jakarta area. Data analysis was performed using the structured equation model (SEM) using SmartPLS software. This research uses eight items of mathematics resilience instrument, ten items of habits of mind instrument, and 12 items of socio-mathematical norm instrument. Each instrument has four alternative answers with a Likert scale. The results of the study concluded: 1) there is a positive impact of mathematical resilience on socio-mathematical norms; 2) there is a positive impact of habits of mind on socio-mathematical norms; 3) there is a positive impact of mathematical resilience on habits of mind; 4) there is a positive impact of mathematical resilience on sociomathematical norms mediated by habits of mind.

Abstract

The study aims to determine students’ mathematical communication skills in learning mathematics based on aspects of sosiomathematic norms. This research methotd uses descriptive qualitative. The subjects in this study were 6 students who were selected based on their level, namely high, medium and low. Researchers used questionnaires, test questions, and interviews with the aim of knowing the extent to which subjects had mathematical communication skills and sociomathematical norms. Then, data analysis techniques used the Rasch model on questionnaires and test questions, the during interviews used data reduction analysis, data collection, and drawing conclusions using the MAXQDA application. The results of this study are: a) students who have a high level of mathematics communication ability have high sociomathematic norms as well as medium and low levels; b) the characteristics of students mathematical communication abilities are more towards indicators of writing and mathematical expression; c) the characteristics of students sociomathematics norms lead to indicators of mathematical differences and mathematical insights. The research can be a source of information and reference for readers.

Abstract

This rapid technological development has a very significant impact on various aspects of human life, one of which is in the aspect of education. The existence of technological developments in the aspect of education gave rise to a new paradigm in which participants acted as constructors in managing the information gained knowledge and educators as facilitators who guide students in learning activities with the aid of an electronic device. However, the use of electronic devices in the form of laptops/computers has not been well implemented to make students passive, and mathematical communication skills are not optimal. Students still consider the material of the Three Variable Linear Equation System to be quite difficult. So, we need innovative learning media in the form of e-modules. The purpose of this study was to develop the contents and find out the quality of e-modules in the material of the Mathematical Communication Based Three Variable Linear Equation System. This research is development research that adapts the ADDIE development model. The results of this study are in the form of an e-module on the material of the Three Variable Linear Equation System based on mathematical communication that can be operated on a laptop/computer offline. The product has been validated by media experts and material experts and gets results in the Good category. The product was also tested on 46 respondents and obtained results in the Good category. Thus, the e-module of the Three Variable Linear Equation System based on mathematical communication is appropriate for use in learning. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penerapan model Guided Discovery Learning (GDL) dalam meningkatkan kemampuan mengkonstruksi bukti geometri (KMBG) pada perkuliahan geometri dasar. Penelitian menggunakan eksperimen factorial design 3×2 yang melibatkan dua kelas geomeri dasar dengan perlakuan pembelajaran yang berbeda yakni model GDL di kelas eksperimen dan model Direct Instruction (DI) di kelas kontrol. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah seluruh mahasiswa yang mengikuti mata kuliah geometri dasar Program Studi Pendidikan Matematika di salah satu Perguruan Tinggi. Sampel penelitian sejumlah 75 mahasiswa dipilih dengan teknik Cluster Random Sampling yang terbagi dalam kelas ekperimen dan kelas kontrol. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa: 1) peningkatan KMBG mahasiswa yang memperoleh GDL lebih baik dibandingkan dengan mahasiswa yang memperoleh DI; 2) terdapat perbedaan peningkatan KMBG ditinjau dari level Kemampuan Awal Matematika (KAM) mahasiswa; 3) terdapat efek interaksi faktor pembelajaran dan KAM terhadap peningkatan KMBG.Kata Kunci: Guided Discovery Learning, Pembuktian, Geometri, Mengkonstruksi Bukti Geometri.

Abstract

Kemampuan numerasi merupakan aspek kritis yang esensial bagi para siswa untuk dapat mengaplikasikan konsep-konsep matematika secara terampil dalam berbagai konteks pemecahan masalah kehidupan sehari-hari. Meskipun demikian, banyak siswa menghadapi kesulitan dalam menyelesaikan masalah-masalah harian yang terkait dengan konsep matematika. Untuk mengatasi permasalahan ini, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi pengaruh penggunaan model pembelajaran Student Facilitator & Explaining (SFE) terhadap kemampuan numerasi matematika para peserta didik di SDN Sukapura 01 Jakarta Utara, khususnya pada materi matematika volume bangun ruang. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode quasi-eksperimental dengan desain non-equivalent control group, di mana kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol terdiri dari masing-masing 32 siswa. Data yang dikumpulkan meliputi hasil tes pretes dan posttes untuk mengukur perbedaan kemampuan numerasi matematika setelah diterapkannya model pembelajaran Student Facilitator & Explaining (SFE). Hasil penelitian ini mengungkapkan adanya pengaruh positif penggunaan model pembelajaran Student Facilitator & Explaining (SFE) terhadap kemampuan numerasi matematika siswa. Dalam analisis pretes dan posttes, terjadi peningkatan hasil tes setelah menerapkan model pembelajaran Student Facilitator & Explaining (SFE). Selain itu, perubahan yang signifikan juga ditemukan pada tingkat partisipasi siswa di kelas, yang menunjukkan bahwa model pembelajaran ini dapat meningkatkan aktivitas peserta didik dalam proses pembelajaran. Sebagai kesimpulan, penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa model pembelajaran Student Facilitator & Explaining (SFE) dapat meningkatkan kemampuan numerasi matematika siswa. Hasil ini memberikan implikasi penting bagi pengembangan strategi pembelajaran matematika yang lebih efektif dan berdaya guna dalam mendukung pemahaman siswa terhadap konsep-konsep matematika dan kemampuan mereka dalam menghadapi tantangan matematika dalam kehidupan sehari-hari.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the learning barriers to students' numeracy skills based on aspects of socio-mathematical norms. This type of research is a case study with a qualitative approach. The subjects of this research are fourth-grade students of SDS Islam Assa'adah, East Jakarta, for the academic year 2021–2022. Data collection techniques used in this research include tests and interview techniques. The results showed that students' numeracy skills were more dominant at the moderate level with a percentage of 50% and socio-mathematical norms were also more dominant at the medium level category with a percentage of 64%. The test results were then validated by interviewing a group of six students with varying levels of ability.

Abstract

Sociomathematical norms are reflected in the activities of mathematics study in class. The purpose of this study was to study and understand the mathematical communication ability both writing and oral of middle-school students to work on statistical problem based on sociomathematical norms. This type of research method is a qualitative descriptive using case study analyzed from the given instruments. The subjects of this research are the ninth grade school year 2021/2022 of a public middle-school in Jakarta. The data collected using questionnaire and questions. The result of the research shows that the students in high, moderate, and low category have different mathematical communication ability and directly proportional to the sociomathematical norms category. Furthermore, the mathematical communication ability of the subjects in oral and writing are showing the similarity on both abilities. Nevertheless, the students’ different mathematical ability in the same sociomathematical norms category could happen which obtained from a mathematical insight outside the school study.

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to determine the ability of mathematical representation of students based on the level of socio mathematical norms owned by students. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method. The subjects were six students who had high, medium, and low sociomathematical norm categories.  This study used questionnaires, written tests, and interviews as data collection instruments. Rasch model method for questionnaires and written tests as a data analysis technique and in interviews analyzed using data reduction, data collection, and conclusion drawing using MAXQDA. The results of this research are: 1). Students with high sociomathematical norm categories have high mathematical representation abilities and so do students with medium and low sociomathematical norm levels, 2) the characteristics of students' representation abilities tend to have symbolic ability indicators and 3) the characteristics of students' sociomathematical norms in this study tend to mathematical communication indicators.

Abstract

In quality mathematics learning, there must be interaction between learners and educators. The interaction referred to in this study covers mathematical argumentation and sociomathematical norms. Mathematical argumentation ability: pay attention to signs, notations, and symbols from mathematics and how to negotiate to understand mathematical ideas. This study aims to analyze the improvement of mathematical argumentation ability and sociomathematical norms using the Missouri Mathematics Project on trigonometric ratios material. This research approach is quantitative. At the same time, the method used is a quasi-experiment with a non-equivalent control group design. The sample in this study was 51 learners. Data were analyzed by Two-Way ANOVA test with the conclusions: 1) The improvement of mathematical argumentation ability using the Missouri Mathematics Project learning model is better than the problem-based learning model; 2) There are differences in mathematical argumentation ability based on aspects of sociomathematical norms (high, medium and low); 3) There is no interaction between learning model and sociomathematical norms on mathematical argumentation ability.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the literature review based on the analytic database on google scholar about mathematical reasoning related to gender. A total of 200 papers on mathematical reasoning were published in the harzing data base from 1959 to 2021 and analyzed through a bibliometric analysis approach. Aggregation of bibliographies from sources, authors, countries, institutions, publications and co-occurrence of authors' keywords were analyzed and visualized through VOSViewer software. Mathematical reasoning is heavily influenced by other things, one of which is related to gender differences in it. The results from the bibliometric data of the Harzing Application and VOSViewer that there is a distribution related to mathematical reasoning is very closely related to the key words difference, mathematical reasoning ability, reasoning, reasoning ability, mathematical ability, boy, girl, female, and male. The journal that has a lot of research on mathematical reasoning based on gender is the Journal of Educational Psychology, an institution that researches a lot on mathematical reasoning based on gender is the American Psychological Association. And the country that has researched the most on mathematical reasoning is the United States.
