Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the influence of Sharia Economic Law on the digitalization of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia, with a focus on how Sharia-based regulations can support the digital transformation of these enterprises in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework is grounded in the concept of Sharia economic law, which emphasizes ethical business practices, social justice, and economic inclusivity, all of which are integral to the achievement of SDGs. Literature review: A review of relevant literature reveals that Sharia-based regulations, such as support for Sharia-compliant QRIS and the rise of halal fintech, have significantly facilitated the adoption of digital technology by MSMEs. These initiatives are aligned with SDGs, particularly in fostering economic growth (SDG 8) and promoting innovation (SDG 9). Method: The research uses a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology, involving the collection and analysis of the latest academic articles, books, and policy reports related to the subject. The main research questions address the role of Sharia economic law in advancing MSME digitalization, the political dynamics influencing these developments, and the challenges and opportunities that emerge from this transformation. Results: The findings indicate that while the digitalization of MSMEs is progressing, there is a need for stronger integration between Sharia regulations and national laws, as well as efforts to improve digital literacy among MSME owners and employees. Additionally, it is important to create incentives to support the adoption of Sharia-based digital technology. Implications: The study's implications include providing policy recommendations for harmonizing regulations and fostering an enabling environment for the digital transformation of MSMEs in Indonesia. Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in its focus on Sharia economic law as a driver of MSME digitalization in Indonesia, a topic that has not been extensively explored.

Abstract

Objective: This study investigates the implications of the Congregational Dawn Prayer Movement (Gerakan Subuh Berjamaah) in Palembang City for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the context of sustainable human resource development. Theoretical framework: The study is grounded in a theoretical framework of social action theory and Islamic spiritual empowerment, with particular reference to the role of religion in public policy and community development. Literature review: A review of relevant literature highlights the increasing recognition of religious movements as catalysts for holistic development, yet few studies have addressed their direct connection to SDGs. Methods: Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, this research utilizes participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation as its main data collection techniques. The researcher’s active involvement in the movement provides nuanced insights into its processes and effects. Results: The findings reveal that the Congregational Dawn Prayer Movement, as institutionalized by Palembang Mayor Regulation No. 69 of 2018, extends beyond religious observance. It promotes empowerment across multiple sectors: religious (increased spiritual awareness), social (strengthened community bonds), cultural (revitalization of local Islamic values), economic (micro-business encouragement), political (citizen engagement), and educational (Islamic learning initiatives). Implications: These multidimensional impacts demonstrate how faith-based initiatives can serve as strategic tools for achieving the SDGs, especially in the areas of quality education (SDG 4), reduced inequalities (SDG 10), sustainable communities (SDG 11), and partnerships (SDG 17). Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in its integrative analysis of a religious movement through the lens of the SDGs, emphasizing the transformative potential of Islamic social action within local governance frameworks.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the integration of Islamic Religious Education in the development of the Islamic Economics curriculum at the Al-Qur’an Al-Ittifaqiah Islamic Religious Institute (IAIQI) Indralaya, Indonesia, as a strategic effort to support SDG 1 on poverty alleviation. Theoretical framework: Theoretically, this study is grounded in problem-based learning (PBL) and the integration of values-based education, which together provide a framework for cultivating not only cognitive competence but also ethical awareness in economic behavior. Literature review: A review of the existing literature reveals a growing concern regarding the mismatch between Islamic Economics education and real-world economic disparities. Previous studies emphasize the importance of aligning curriculum content with contemporary issues such as economic inequality, unemployment, and community empowerment. Methods: Methodologically, this research employs a qualitative case study approach through document analysis, curriculum review, and semi-structured interviews with faculty members, curriculum developers, and policy stakeholders. Results: The findings indicate that effective curriculum development must incorporate real-life community problems, ethical reasoning, and interdisciplinary knowledge. The inclusion of Islamic Religious Education enhances the moral dimension of economic decision-making and contributes to shaping students as agents of socioeconomic transformation. Furthermore, collaboration between universities, local governments, and community institutions emerged as a critical factor in ensuring the curriculum's relevance and impact. Implications: The implications of this study underscore the urgency of transforming Islamic Economics education into a practical tool for achieving social justice and economic empowerment, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in proposing an integrative curriculum model that explicitly links Islamic values, educational theory, and SDG 1, positioning religious education as a catalyst for meaningful poverty alleviation.

Abstract

Objective: This study explores the social contributions of Kemas Abdullah Azhari (1863–1939), a prominent Islamic scholar from Palembang, in preserving Islamic scientific traditions in the 20th century within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4: Quality Education. Theoretical framework: The research is grounded in Max Weber’s theory of social action, particularly the typologies of traditional, charismatic, and bureaucratic authority, to understand the modalities through which Kemas Abdullah Azhari exerted influence in education, religious life, and social conflict resolution. Literature review: The literature review identifies a gap in historiographical sources that address localized Islamic scholarly traditions in Indonesia, particularly those passed on through oral transmission and community memory. Methods: A qualitative narrative method was employed, using document analysis, in-depth interviews with descendants and local figures familiar with the scholar’s legacy, and ethnographic observation of cultural symbols and institutions related to Islamic education in Palembang. The study also incorporated oral traditions and manaqib treatises, which were transmitted intergenerationally in Pedatuan Village. To ensure data reliability, triangulation was applied throughout the research process. Results: Findings reveal that Kemas Abdullah Azhari played a pivotal role in advancing inclusive religious education and creating spaces for the dissemination of Islamic knowledge, aligning with the goals of SDG 4. His contributions ensured the continuity of Islamic scholarship through informal learning and community-based religious instruction, even in the face of colonial constraints and the absence of formal documentation. Implications: This has significant implications for both heritage preservation and contemporary Islamic education strategies. Novelty: The study’s novelty lies in recovering an underexplored dimension of Islamic intellectual history in Sumatra and highlighting the integration of local religious figures in achieving long-term sustainable educational development.

Abstract

Gender inequity in bequest practices within the Komering adat community reflects structural inequalities shaped by social, cultural, and ideological factors. Bequest is commonly practiced as a preventive mechanism to avoid inheritance disputes within families. However, this practice tends to privilege men by allocating productive assets, such as land and plantations, primarily to male heirs, while women often receive smaller shares or are positioned as secondary beneficiaries. From a social construction perspective, this pattern reflects patriarchal traditions embedded in customary practices. This study employs a qualitative approach with a socio-juridical research design to examine how social construction and patriarchal values influence bequest practices as an economic instrument within Komering families. Primary data were collected through field observations and in-depth interviews with customary leaders, family members, and women involved in bequest practices. Secondary data were obtained from legal documents, regulations, and academic literature. The analysis draws on patriarchal theory, social construction theory, and Sylvia Walby’s framework to explore the relationship between power structures and cultural legitimacy. The findings reveal that men are consistently prioritised in receiving productive assets, while women generally receive smaller portions of family wealth. This pattern is socially legitimised through norms positioning men as primary family providers. Consequently, women experience reduced access to economic resources, increased financial dependency, and weaker bargaining positions within the social structure. From the perspective of maqāṣid al-syarī‘ah, particularly regarding asset protection and distributive justice, current bequest practices have not fully reflected principles of justice. The gap between legal ideals and social realities indicates the need for reconstructing religious understanding and encouraging social transformation. Strengthening gender-responsive policies and promoting substantive justice-based interpretations of Islamic law are therefore necessary to restore bequest practices as inclusive mechanisms that support welfare and social equity.

Abstract

This study examines the concept of lowering the jilbab in Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) through an integrative approach that combines a textual study of the Qur’an and the Prophetic Hadith with a socio-religious analysis of contemporary practice. The study takes as its starting point the Qur’anic verse in Sūrah al-Ahzāb (59) as the legislative basis for the command to let the jilbāb hang down, then focuses on the relevant hadith, tracing its transmission, examining its chain of transmission, and comparing it with the accounts found in the exegesis. It provides a practical description of how the women of the Ansar complied with the command to let the jilbab hang down, as recorded in the reasons for revelation. The research adopts a qualitative methodology by combining desk-based and field research, analysing the views of exegetes and jurists on the meaning of the jilbab and ‘idna’, and conducting field observations and in-depth interviews with Muslim women from diverse social and educational backgrounds. The findings reveal that the motivations for wearing the long jilbab vary, including religious commitment, the construction of social identity, the influence of fashion and social media, and family and cultural factors. The research also highlights a significant jurisprudential difference regarding the issue of face covering, whereby ‘idna’ is not understood as an absolute obligation to cover the face but is linked to the objectives of Sharia, such as covering the ‘awrah’, preventing fitnah, and preserving dignity.
