The Roles of School Principal Leadership in Developing English Teachersâ€™ Creativities in Palu Abdul Gafur Marzuki; Saja'un Lampuasa

This research is a descriptive qualitative that explaines and describes any pertinent things related to the school principal leadership and teachersâ€™ creativities which occur now at the research spot. This study aims to investigate the roles of the school principal in encouraging, driving, and directing teachers to be creative in performing their works. Results indicated that in encouraging his teachers, the school principal: 1) provides conducive climate and condition by involving his teachers in designing school programs and by welcoming his teachersâ€™ comments and arguments on any policies he applies or any decisions he takes; 2) introduces and assures his teachers that education paradigm has changed therefore the school should be managed as a business firm in the area of public services where the most thing that should be considered is how to satisfy customers; 3) informs clearly that in evaluating the staffsâ€™ performances he applies reward and punishment policy; and 4) optimizes managerial functions especially in monitoring what happens in the classroom. In driving the teachers, the school primcipal should applies his or her policy and delegates several responsibilities and jobs to the right persons. In directing the teachers he or s lets his or staffs Â free to do their best.

Developing Speaking Skill through Oral Report in an EFL Class in Indonesia Abdul Gafur Marzuki

This Classroom Action Research aims at developing studentsâ€™ speaking skill through the application of oral report technique. This research is conducted collaboratively in three cycles in which researcher acts as a lecturer while his collaborator acts as an observer and each cycle consists of two meetings. Data of this research is attained from two main sources namely qualitative and quantitative data. The data shows that In preliminary study, 35.5% students could answer questions given by researcher through interview but the achievement score shows that 13.3% students could fulfill the minimum criteria of achievement. The minimum criterion of achievement is 60. At cycle I, 37% students could participate in oral report and 24.4% students could fulfill the minimum criteria of achievement. At cycle II, 51.1% students could participate in oral report and 42.2% students could fulfill the minimum criteria of achievement. The last is 75% students could fulfill the minimum criteria of achievement from 86.6% students who participated in oral report at cycle III from 45 students. Furthermore, the highest score obtained by student from each of cycles present that in preliminary study is 70 whereas 72.5 at cycle I, 85 at cycle II, and 90 at cycle III. Based on the findings of this research, it can be inferred that the application of oral report technique can develop studentsâ€™ speaking skill in using English

The paper in hand is an attempt to apply discourse analysis approach to analyze the use of illeism in poetic eloquence. Illeism is used in third-person self-reference forms for representing the views of someone else as distinctive technique of interpretation. Through this means, it creates illusion of the speaker linguistically and thematically trying to distance themselves in the narrative. The paper is an analysis of Taylor Swift’s poem “Why She Disappeared” for her sixth studio album ‘Reputation’. The study explores qualitatively poetry elements in accordance to highlight the implication of illeism through signifiers. It utilizes a literary approach and the poem as the corpus of the study. The aims of the study are to address the way illeism functioning within the poem and the interpretation of the third-person self-reference in the poem. It is found that the poem presents the use of illeism in threefold: (1) it is used to distance oneself from traumatic occurrences; (2) it is used to refer to past-self indirectly; (3) it is used to give self-motivation. The third-person terms mentioned in the poem contribute to the actions that the speaker is employing through the discourse. Further study is needed to explore more about illeism in a variety of discourse.

The aim of this study is to investigate the students’ perception of computer-based testing in national examination and determine the extent to which cheating in exams would be eliminated by the adoption of CBT in National examination. Relevant to the purpose of the study, the researchers decide to use a qualitative case study since it was taken place in a natural setting and the data was collecting using questionnaire. This study conducted in one of senior high school in Jakarta Timur. Then, the participants in this study were 30 students of twelfth-grade students. The results of this study are almost 30 students give their perception that the CBT is the effective one for the students in the final examination and the CBT produces a good final examination the elimination of cheating cases in the national examination consumes time in each question.

The objectives of this research was to know the process of learning English vocabulary by using guessing words game and to know the students’ problem in learning English vocabulary by using guessing words game for the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 10 Palu in academic year of2019/2020 with the use of guessing words game technique. In this research, the researcher used qualitative research method. The researcher chose class VII D as sample which consisted of 23 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used four kinds of instruments, they were: observation,interview, test and document. Based on the observation, there are some problems in the teaching and learning. To solve those problems, the researcher implemented guessing words game as vocabulary activities. This research was conducted through classroom action research that consisted of two cycles. Each cycles consisted three meetings. The result of the research showed that there were some improvements of the students’ vocabulary. In cycle 1 average score was 62,86 there were some unsuccessful score. Meanwhile, in cycle 2 average score was 72,34 the implementation of guessing words game was successful in developing students vocabulary. Guessing words game gives better result to develop the students’ vocabulary. In other words, guessing words game is effective to use in teaching English vocabulary.

The objective of this research was to investigate the effect of anxiety toward students’ learning motivation of the eleventh grade at SMAN 4 Palu in the academic year 2019- 2020. This research used as a survey quantitative research method. The population of this research was conducted for the eleventh-grade students of SMAN 4 Palu with consisted of 50 students, who used purposive sampling with took 2 classes as the samples to encourage representative data. In the procedure of collecting data, the researcher used one of instrument is questionnaire. The questionnaire used to encourage the effect of anxiety and the motivation in learning English of the students. The researcher was giving students a questionnaire using WhatsApp. The questionnaire in Google form, so students just open and checklist their answer and send. The result of the questionnaire has shown there was no significant effect of anxiety toward students’ learning motivation. This result of Pearson Product Moment table, which has shown were scores of Sigs between effect Anxiety and Motivation was 0,450 or more than 0,05. It means there was no effect of anxiety toward motivation. The researcher concluding the effect of anxiety toward students' learning motivation was normal.

This research aims at analysing the development of students’ speaking skill in Islamic higher education in Indonesia through repetition technique. This is a CAR (Classroom Action Research) implemented in cyclical process, covering planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The subject of research was the fourth semester students of EFL speaking class which consist of 25 students. The data were obtained from observation checklist, field notes, questionnaire, and test. They were analysed qualitatively and quantitatively. Quantitative data dealt with teaching-learning process, i.e. students’ participation in the classroom activities. They were gained from students’ achievement tests. The findings revealed that in cycle 1 there were twelve students who achieved minimum criteria of achievement. It means that the classical achievement was 48%. In cycle 2, it showed that there were twenty of students who achieved the minimum criteria of achievement. It means that the classical achievement was 80%. Both classical and individual achievements have met the criteria of success. It can be concluded that the repetition technique is proved to be useful to develop students’ speaking skill.

This study is an analysis of illocutionary speech acts performed in Tom Cruise's interview in promoting his movie. This study aims to describe the types as well as the functions of illocutionary speech acts performed by both the interviewer and the interviewee. Moreover, this study also describes the most and the least used illocutionary speech acts performed in the interview. This study uses qualitative method employing descriptive analysis design. The data source of this study is collected by downloading the video of the interview from YouTube. The data are observed and transcribed into written form. Furthermore, the data are categorized into some types of illocutionary speech acts. The result showed that there are four kinds of illocutionary speech acts which are performed in Tom Cruise's interview which are representative, commissive, directive, and expressive. Here, the representative speech acts was categorized as the most performed speech in that interview. The result of the present study showed that Tom Cruise tended to convey his utterance to give statements of fact or to describe things that he believed to be true. Meanwhile, the percentage of the most performed or the most used speech acts to the least one in Tom Cruise's interview is: representative (48.7%), expressive (38.5%), commissive (7.7%), directive (5.1%), and declarative (0%).

The purpose of this research is to describe or know and explain the aesthetic value contained in classical Bugis and Makassar songs. This research is qualitative. The data sources of this research are Bugis songs and classical Makassar songs. The research instrument consisted of a gadget or mobile phone, a youtube application, and writing instruments in the form of books and pens. The research method used is a type of qualitative research, which is a research procedure that uses data or descriptive methods in the form of written or spoken words that can be observed. Data were collected using interviews, observation, and documentation studies, where documents in the form of audio and audio-visual will be transcribed into a written form which will then be analyzed for the aesthetic meaning contained therein. The result showed that classical Bugis and Makassar songs have aesthetic values in the form of 1) the value of sacrifice, 2) the value of love/affection, 3) the value of morals/life, and 4) the value of culture. The value of sacrifice contained in Bugis and Makassar songs is a sacrifice made or given to people who are loved sincerely, then for the value of love/affection contained in Bugis and Makassar songs in the form of stories about problems of love or the beauty of that love itself, then for the moral/life values contained in the Bugis and Makassar songs, it gives a message about good behavior or ethics in living life, and for cultural values, it provides lessons about the importance of working together and maintaining tolerance among others.

The problems in this study are the types, meanings, and forms of affixes marking the Tialo language verbs. This study aims to describe the types, meanings, and forms of the Tialo language, including prefixes, suffixes, infixes, and confixes. The method used is a qualitative method. This study used the observing and speaking methods, with tapping techniques, proficient involvement techniques, proficient free observing techniques, fishing techniques, all-encompassing techniques, and note-taking techniques. The data analysis technique used is the distributional and equivalent method using the smallest element breakdown technique. Based on the results of research that has been carried out, it was found that affixes are markers for Tialo language verbs which include: Prefixes {moN-}, {non-}, {meN-}, {neN}, {poN-}, {peN-}, {in-}, and {te-}. {in-} infix. Suffixes {i-} and {a'a}. Confixes {moN-a'a} {noN-a'a}, {meN-a'a}, {meN-omo}, {nen-omo}, {poN-omo} and {moN-i}. The meaning of the affix markers in the Tialo language is going to take action, is taking action, has taken action, ordered, has taken action for others, and has finished taking action for others. Meanwhile, the affixes for the Tialo language consist of prefixes {mo-}, {no-}, and {me-}. {in-} infix. Suffixes {-i} and {a'a}. The confixes {mo-i}, {mo-a'a}, and {no-a'a} in the affix form of the Tialo language verb markers have changed and some have not changed.
