Abstract

Abstract

Land-use change due to development continues to increase so that it impacts decreasing infiltration area and increasing surface water runoff. One of the solutions to merahuce runoff is to apply green building concepts using infiltration wells. This study aims to design infiltration wells based on greenship new building 1.2 to merahuce the volume of rainwater runoff and STP runoff water that has met the quality standards at vertical residential buildings, as well as assessing the green building category of land use at design recognition stage. The results of planning rainwater absorption wells in accordance with the greenship new building version 1.2 showed that it is necessary to make circular infiltration wells with a diameter of 1,5 m and a depth of 5 m. It takes as many as 34 units with an effectiveness value of 99.1%. While the infiltration well for STP effluent water is required as many as 44 units with 100% effectiveness. The result of green building assessment in this apartment plan for appropiate site development category has reached 64% (11 out of 17 points)

Abstract

Sheet pipe is a type of perforated pipe used for drainage designed initially for drainage but has the potential for sub-surface irrigation. The objectives of this study were to experiment and observe the performance of the sub-surface irrigation control system with sheet pipe. This investigation covered the observation of water table control and its effect on soil moisture. The detailed process of water flow during the setting of the water table was numerically modeled in 2 dimensions to observe the distribution of soil moisture, soil pressure, and flux. The results showed that the system successfully controlled the water table at the desired level in the experiment. The developed two-dimensional numerical simulation showed the distribution of soil moisture in the model center as a response to the water table increase, represented by the variable head. The soil wetting advances toward soil surface driven by the water table, which was increased gradually and reached saturation at the height of water table setpoint.

Abstract

Conventional fish hatchery faces many challenges, such as extensive land use, excessive water use, environmental pollution, and a controlled maintenance system, making the fish hatchery process inefficient. The development of a Controlled Water Recirculation System (SRAT) can be a solution to overcome this problem. This study aims to obtain a water balance model and determine the amount of pressure loss that occurs in the SRAT piping network to improve the performance of SRAT by maintaining the uniformity of water discharge in each water tank in the SRAT. First, the average discharge was 2,134 L/min, with a uniformity of only 79%. After the intervention of the model, the uniformity value increased to 99% with an average of 1,269 L/min. It can be concluded that the built model can maintain the uniformity of water discharge in each tub contained in the SRAT.

Abstract

The conversion of agricultural land to non-agricultural uses has threatened the food supply of urban areas. While there are many unused open spaces in the areas that would have the potential to produce certain foods that are regularly consumed. It is then necessary to introduce cultivation techniques that match the area’s conditions and operable by the people with no, or less experience in farming. This study aims to come up with a portable Minapadi (paddy and fish) culture deemed suitable for urban farming and identify its performance to produce rice as well as fish. The model was tested for one season (99 days) with the main parameters observed being water balances, rice and fish production and revenue. Applying automatic irrigation without using electricity, the irrigation water consumption was 738 mm with an efficiency of 54%. Land and water productivity were 3.62 tons/ha and 0.96 kg/m³, respectively. The fish survival rate was 85% with total production of 3.34 kg and feed efficiency of 2.74. This model earned IDR7,054.94/m³ for rice and IDR36,989.82/m³ for fish with total revenue of IDR44,044.76/m³. These results confirmed that this minapadi model has potential application to support the development of urban agriculture.

Abstract

Currently, in KP-01 the determination of irrigation water requirements for land preparation (KAIPL) for rice fields is still based on the Van de Goor & Zijlstra (VGZ) equation with the assumption of constant discharge. This method is practical in planning but tends to be wasteful in implementation. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to develop an empirical model for determining KAIPL that is more water efficient by implementing intermittent irrigation. The model was developed from the application of inundation at certain periods and water levels for three different soil textures. The empirical model was developed from the VGZ equation by adding constants as factors for intermittent irrigation and soil texture (called the MVGZ model). Then compared with the results of measurements in the field during 2 growing seasons in DI Cihea, West Java. The results show that the constant values for the MVGZ model with heavy, medium and light soil textures are 0.79; 0.76 and 0.73. With this constant, accuracy is obtained with a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.99. Field validation results show that the MVGZ model is close to the measurement results with water savings of 28-34% compared to the VGZ model. Therefore, the MVGZ model can be applied to determine KAIPL which is more water efficient.

Abstract

Land conversion, a phenomenon being encountered today, has led to a decline in the availability of agricultural land. On the other hand, population growth requires more food, which means more farmland is needed. Hydroponics is a method to grow crops intensively in any form of space without using soil, but only nutritious water as the growing medium. Hydroponics can produce high-quality crops and is easy to implement, making it popular in urban areas. However, it requires a continuous flow of water using electric pumps, which ultimately increases investment and operating costs. In this study, FONi (An Unpowered Automatic Fertigator) was tested to maintain water levels and flow rates as required by the plants. FONi is designed to replace the water lost by plant evapotranspiration, utilizing an automatic water valve. Here, FONi demonstrated good performance in growing three types of vegetables, namely water spinach (kangkung), choy sum (caisim), and spinach (bayam). The water productivity of each was 47.51 kg/m³, 43.80 kg/m³, and 21.25 kg/m³, respectively, and the land productivity was 1.35 kg/m², 0.97 kg/m², and 0.57 kg/m², respectively. The overall water efficiency was above 80%. By applying FONi, hydroponic cultivation activities at the research site, which had been suspended, can resume without incurring electricity costs.

Abstract

Salinization process through a membrane of sand is  presented in this paper. Two treatments were performed here. Treatment 1, saline water flowed continuously from below the membrane with a stable unsaturated water content depicted as a simulation of sea water intrusion. Treatment 2, the membrane was inundated with saline water depicted as a simulation of flooding. Two kinds of membrane used which were black and white sand. Black sand had saturated water content (θs) 0.35 cm3/cm3, and the white sand 0.52 cm3/cm3. The highest to the lowest evaporation rate were flooded black sand, unflooded black sand, flooded white sand, and unflooded white sand membranes. Flooded and unflooded black sand membrane had higher temperature than flooded and unflooded white sand membrane. Most salt crystals were produced by the not flooded membrane amounted to 14.7 gram and 15 gram. Keywords : salinization, sand membrane, saline water, evaporation
