Abstract

Developing critical and creative thinking skills is essential for prospective teachers to meet 21st-century education demands. However, these skills remain relatively low among teacher education students. This study investigates how higher education institutions can design learning experiences to foster these competencies, focusing on the Creative and Critical Thinking in Research-based Learning (CCTRbL) model. This study employed an action research approach based on a modified Burn model, comprising five stages: (1) Identifying, (2) Planning, (3) Intervening, (4) Observing, and (5) Reporting. The participants were 27 teacher education students. Data were collected using an integrated critical and creative thinking assessment rubric for evaluating students’ research-based paper tasks. Data analysis utilized categorical descriptive techniques and percentage calculations. The findings indicate that the CCTRbL model effectively enhances students' critical and creative thinking skills, with scores of 68.29 and 65.18, respectively, categorized as high. This suggests that the implemented model positively impacts students' ability to think critically and creatively. The study demonstrates that integrating critical and creative thinking in a research-based learning framework is beneficial for teacher education programs. The findings suggest that the CCTRbL model can be adapted for use at different educational levels with modifications suited to subject-specific requirements. The CCTRbL model is a promising approach to fostering critical and creative thinking skills in teacher education. It is recommended for broader application in primary, secondary, and higher education to enhance students' cognitive abilities and professional competencies.

Abstract

Elementary school students’ critical thinking skills remain relatively low due to teacher-centered learning that provides less challenging learning experiences. This study aimed to develop and examine the effectiveness of the BETAH board game in improving students’ critical thinking skills. The study employed a Research and Development (R and D) method using the ADDIE model, combined with a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest control group design. The participants were second-grade students from five elementary schools in Bandar Lampung. The research instruments included expert validation sheets, teacher response questionnaires, and a critical thinking skills test. The results showed that the developed media was valid and practical based on expert judgment and teacher responses. Quantitatively, the mean score increased from 60.74 in the pretest to 78.51 in the posttest, with a mean difference of 17.77, which was statistically significant based on the t-test (p < 0.05). These findings indicate that the integration of the BETAH board game with the 3CM learning model is effective in improving students’ critical thinking skills. Therefore, the developed media can serve as an alternative instructional tool to support critical thinking development in elementary mathematics learning.

Abstract

This article develops a comparative normative convergence model as a foundation for climate justice. Through critical examination of normative corpora across Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Confucianism, the study demonstrates that each tradition contains principles of trusteeship, interdependence, moderation, and justice that can be formulated as shared public ethical categories without erasing distinct theological commitments. This synthesis is achieved through dialectical engagement with internal tensions: between anthropocentrism and ecological responsibility, between personal ethics and structural justice, and between normative ideal and institutional practice. Islam emphasizes amānah (trusteeship) and moderation; Christianity advances stewardship and climate justice; Hinduism and Buddhism highlight cosmic interdependence and the transformation of consciousness; Confucian thought grounds ecological responsibility in relational self-cultivation and principled moderation (Zhongyong). The findings indicate that religion’s contribution to climate governance depends less on doctrinal convergence at the theological level than on its capacity to translate particular values into structurally engaged, postcolonially aware, and politically courageous public action. The study concludes that the comparative normative convergence model advances the field by demonstrating that synthesis is not found but constructed.

Abstract

The results of experimental research on marine thermal power plants using a shell and tube heat exchanger made of copper-tin (Cu-Sn) alloy are the main focus of this study. This study uses a heat exchanger Scale Model measuring 60 mm wide x 1 meter long. The system operated using a closed cycle and Organic Rankin cycle. A simulation study has been carried out using Ansys CFD software to model new heat exchangers, namely models A and B. The interaction between ammonia and hot water produces thermodynamic values in the form of an evaporator outlet temperature of 28°C in models A and B 260C. The weakness of model B is that the turbulent flow is divided into left and right sides so that heat loss occurs in the flow corner area. The seawater inlet temperature of 29°C can heat the working fluid from the ammonia flow inlet from 5°C to 28°C, resulting in saturated steam reaching 5-6 bar.

Abstract

This research aimed to develop a board game-based learning media called JUMATHJI for multiplication material in third-grade elementary school and to examine its feasibility and effectiveness in supporting students’ numeracy skills. A Research and Development (R&D) approach was employed using the ADDIE model, which consists of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The subjects were third-grade students from elementary schools in Kanigoro sub-district cluster. Data were collected through validation questionnaires, student response questionnaires, and a numeracy test. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative techniques to determine the feasibility and practicality of the media, as well as inferential analysis using the Wilcoxon test to examine its effectiveness. The results of the study indicate that the JUMATHJI learning media achieved a very good category based on expert validation and received positive responses from students. The Wilcoxon test showed a significance value of less than 0.05, indicating that students’ numeracy test results had met the minimum mastery criteria (KKM). Therefore, the JUMATHJI learning media is considered appropriate for use in learning to support students’ numeracy skills. The practical implication is that the JUMATHJI media can be used as a learning medium in elementary schools.
