Abstract

The water system disruption caused by the oil palm has become the issue of the environment. Oil palm plantations rated as the cause of changes in groundwater conditions, for allegedlyusing so much water for growth and production. To clarify these issues will require researchto provide an overview of changes in the water table of oil palm plantations in terms of thewater balance of oil palm plantations. The result showed that the calculation of thepercentage of interception in stands of oil palm has a value of 21.23% of the rainfall. Evapotranspiration in palm oil plantations ranged 68.23-125.63 mm/month, with an averageof 92.05 mm/month or 1104.5 mm/year. The water requirement of oil palm plantations issmaller when compared to the water needs of coconut trees and forest plants such as pine, acacia, segon, rubber and teak.

Abstract

The research was conducted on May – June 2007 in side of Siak River at Kecamatan Rumbai Pesisir, Pekanbaru. The purposes of research is know that one of the impacts of pollution on Siak River is diseases carrying water had increased (diarrhea and skin diseases). Therefore, itneeded a research concern on the advantage effects of river waters toward diarrhea and skindiseases of community side Siak River (case on Kecamatan Rumbai Pesisir, Pekanbaru). Thehypothesis was that pollution on Siak River caused high prevalence of case on diarrhea and skindiseases, oppositely, the people had not used waters from Siak River had case by lowprevalence. The research design was conducted by cross sectional method where measurementand observation was conducted at the same time (once periodic) and sampling purposively. Then, data analyses got by chi square (X2) to determinate a correlation and the strength wasmeasured by odds ratio (OR) value. The result of analyses was show that toilet activities(bathed, washed and water closet) had proved that people used river water would had higherrisk affected by skin diseases than people had not used it. Bath activities was OR = 1,659 thatmeans people had take bath in Siak River would higher affected by skin diseases 1,659 timeshigher than people had not bath in river. Washed cloth activities was OR= 2.032; washed dishand kitchen tools OR = 1,737 and used water closet OR = 2,217. There was not correlationbetween the toilet activities (bath, wash and water closet) with diarrhea disease; significantly, itcaused diarrhea disease usually affected by drinking water that disturbance of digestive system. But, in this research might not proved correlation between the using drinking water withdiarrhea disease. It might caused by few sample or although people didn’t used the water river as drinking water, directly, but still affected by diarrhea. And people percentage affected bydiarrhea disease was great in 25 percent.

Abstract

Until 2009, Riau Province had lost more than four million hectares of forest. The loss of forest coverage was caused by several reasons, such as forest area converted into oil palm plantation (29%), converted into industrial forest (24%) and abandoned deforested land (17%) which was not replaced by any other plants. Up until 2016, Riau Province ranked first in oil palm plantation development with area of 2,430,508 hectares and total of 534,827 workers. The largest amount of replanting activity waste came from oil palm trunks. The treatments of oil palm trunks waste by burning as well as decomposing were considered wasteful and costly. This also leads to a massive carbon emission in the atmosphere, which would cause global warming. Currently, CO2 gas concentration is 40% higher compared to pre-industrial era mainly due to fossil fuel incineration and deforestation. This research aims to measure the dry weight and the amount of carbon and carbon dioxide stock within oil palm trunks waste, as a consideration in taking a policy on preventing and or reducing carbon released to the atmosphere. Oil palm trunks waste came from PT. Perkebunan Nusantara V Persero (state-owned) plantation in Tandum, Riau Province. Data for measuring dry weight and the amount of carbon and carbon dioxide stock was taken randomly from three oil palm trunks. Every trunk was divided into three part (lumbers) which represent the base, middle, and top part of the trunk. Based on the research result, the weight of dry oil palm trunks averages 394.11 kg/tree or 50.45 ton/ha. Carbon stock on oil palm’s biomass averaging at 223.68 kg C/tree or 28.63 ton C/ha, equivalent to 104.97 ton CO2/ha of carbon dioxide stock. The dry weight and the amount of carbon and carbon dioxide in base trunk part are higher than the middle, and the middle part was higher than the top. This data indicates that the base part of the trunk contain the highest amount of biomass and carbon and carbon dioxide stock.

Abstract

Clean water according to Permenkes RI No 416 / Menkes / Per / IX / 1990 is water that used for daily needs whose quality meets health requirements and can be drunk after cooking, one of the government's efforts to meet the clean water needs of the community is the Pamsimas Program. The Pamsimas Program is one of the programs and concrete actions of the government (central and regional) with the support of the World Bank to improve and meet the needs of drinking water supply, sanitation to improve the level of public health, especially in reducing the number of diarrheal diseases and other diseases that are transmitted through water and the environment. Muaro Tombang Village, Sungai Manau Village and Bukit Kauman Village are the three villages in Kuantan Mudik Sub-District that have not had access to 100% clean water. Indicators of success and sustainability of the Pamsimas Program are the quantity and quality of water sources, management policies and management strategies for the Pamsimas Program. The quantity of water in the three villages in terms of discharge and minimum reservoir capacity meet the needs of the community, the water quality in the three villages there are several parameters that do not meet the quality standards of the Minister of Health Regulation No. 416 of 1990 concerning Clean Water Quality Requirements, so it needs to be treated for water Pamsimas Program. The community's perception of the socio-economic and management policies of the Pamsimas Program Muaro Tombang Village and Sungai Manau Village is included in the agreed category, while the community's perception of the socio-economic and management policy of the Pamsimas Program in the Bukit Kauman Village is in the neutral category. The right strategy used for the management of the Pamsimas Program in the three villages is the aggressive strategy (Growth Oriented Strategy), namely the development of the Pamsimas Program by utilizing the strengths of the opportunities that have been identified.

Abstract

Evaluation of land capability is a way to use the land (land resources) in accordance with its potential. Land potential assessment is needed, especially in policy development, land use and sustainable land management. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the land use based on the land capability at Danau Buatan Rumbai cathment area, erosion predicting on land use and assess soil and water conservation that can be applied in Danau Buatan Rumbai cathment area. The results of this study indicate that the land use in Danau Buatan Rumbai cathment area according to the land capability (class II, III and IV). The results of erosion prediction is greater than the erosion tolerable (ETol), this suggests that the land use in this area there is no soil conservation efforts. Suggested land use planning is the land for oil palm plantations, rubber plantations and mixed farms require conservation efforts bench terracing, contour planting, soil cover crops and waterways. Agricultural land crops require conservation efforts bench terracing, gulud terracing, mulch crop residues, rotation and crop rotation. The land requiring conservation cover crops and grass canals. Land for residential conservation efforts need to planting trees and ground cover plants. and shrub lands conservation efforts allowed the meeting to be a scrub.
