Abstract

Tamanagung Village, Cluring District, Banyuwangi Regency is one area that cultivates crystal guava fruit for markets in areas in East Java and even big cities in Indonesia. However, one of the difficulties for farmers is to maintain good quality crystal guava and meet market criteria such as crunchy texture, sweetness, slightly runny, no spots, not rotten and free from maggots. Crystal guava fruit can be sold for Rp. 5,000.00 to Rp. 6,000.00 per kilogram but can drop dramatically if there is a decrease in fruit quality. In this service, fruit cover was chosen as this technology to protect crystal guava fruit (Psidium guajava) from fruit fly (Bactrocera spp.) attacks. The focus of this service program is the use of technology that is simple but can be applied quickly by farmers and has a real impact on cultivation results. Protection provides better yields such as avoiding fruit defects, is of higher quality and will increase the selling value of crystal guava fruit. In the end, this program will be able to increase the economic welfare of crystal guava farmers. It is hoped that the positive impact felt by farmers in community service locations can also be felt by farmers in other areas.

Abstract

Agroecosystem landscapes have been studied extensively and it is known that there is  a relationship between the spatial structure and the ecological processes. The composition of arthropods in the agroecosystem shows population differences that are closely related to the location. This study aims to isolate and analyze the interactions  of arthropods and landscape structures and features of different agroecosystems  landscapes in Kemiri, Jember, Indonesia. The plot method (20x20 m and 1x1 m dimension) was carried out to observe seedling, sapling, and tree (seedling h = 0-1.5  m, sapling h ≥ 1.5 m, tree D > 20 cm). The trees' species name, distance, number, and  DBH were collected. Arthropods were sampled using PFT and SN methods. A vial  (d=5 cm) was used for PFT, and SN was applied at a distance of 1x10 meters with 3  repetitions. Plants with the role of weeds in monoculture dominate (TA=45). Drosophilidae is the most recorded family in monoculture. Polyculture and agroforestry systems increased the diversity of arthropods in the vegetation, and Formicidae predominated by PFT (TA=28% and 81%, respectively). PCA shows the role of detrivores is  mostly found in agroforestry, and herbivores dominate the monoculture. CCA shows that detrivore association in agroforestry is influenced by humidity, and herbivores  are particularly interested in monoculture systems that provide high light, temperature, and wind intensity.

Abstract

The fruit fly Bactrocera spp. is the main pest other than Thrips in red chilies, which can reduce plant productivity by 30-60%, so that a specific method of handling this pest is needed. This study examines the application of conventional and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies to fruit fly populations in red chili cultivation (Capsicum annuum). Observation of fruit fly population used the comparative method with methyl eugenol traps and incubation of infected fruit. Determination of the research sample based on purposive sampling method and analyzed using descriptive analysis. The test parameters were the fruit fly population indicated by the host's density and hosts' availability in the applied IPM and conventional treatments. The results showed that the fruit fly species encountered were dominated by B. dorsalis with a percentage of 98.18% and B. carambola 1.82%. The fruit fly population's fluctuation in IPM and conventional treatments were significantly different, as evidenced by a one-way variance test at a significance level of 99%. The population of fruit flies in the IPM concept was 547 flies, while the conventional concept was 1546 flies. The percentage of fruit fly population in red chili plants with IPM treatment was 48% smaller than conventional treatments. Keywords: Bactrocera spp., IPM, Population, Red chilies.

Abstract

Wangkal Village is one of the villages in Gading District of Probolinggo Regency that has agricultural potential that supports tourism development. Agricultural potential includes abundant water conditions so that people prefer to grow rice every year and be used for freshwater fish cultivation. Another potential that now exists in Wangkal village is the Nolobranti River Tubing tour. This tour offers the concept of tubing down the river along the village of Wangkal. This tour in the dry season is less running because the water discharge is reduced. The Wangkal village government wants to develop agricultural potential and serve as a center for education for the community and tourists who are traveling in Nolobranti. The problem of nolobranti tourism development, among others, this tourist spot only provides river tubing packages. Therefore, it is necessary for the development of nolobranti tourism to become a place of education in the field of agriculture by developing freshwater fisheries combined with rice farming and becoming an educational center for organic agricultural startups. The hope is that this tourist area will not only become a tourist transit, but also a place of education as an agroeduwisata. Agroeduwisata area will be able to offer tour packages, among others: farming various types of vegetables, getting to know sewage treatment, getting to know fish and livestock cultivation, making biopesticides, biofertilizers, packages feeding freshwater fish, airy tours about organic agricultural systems or rice minas, business motivation and other trainings. The results of the service activities show that the community has been able to produce biological products such as making biopesticides, learning the cultivation of black flies to process waste and freshwater cultivation combined with aquponics and mina padi (rice-fish integrated farming system).

Abstract

Abstract

Breadfruit chips are an example of post-harvest processing of breadfruit yields. Generally, breadfruit is only sold in the market in its raw form which has many drawbacks such as low selling price, and short shelf life, the fruit is easily damaged during the transportation process until rot occurs in the fruit. Processing breadfruit into breadfruit chips can help increase the profit margins you get. Breadfruit also has a certain harvest period or what is known as a seasonal plant can quickly experience decay so that post-harvest processing is deemed necessary to keep the product able to have a long shelf life. Tenggir Village, Panji District, Situbondo Regency is one of the villages with a relatively large number of breadfruit trees. Villagers already have the desire and enthusiasm to use the breadfruit by processing it into breadfruit chips. There is a need for community service to empower village potential and design solutions that will be offered to the community. The purpose of this program is to provide alternative solutions for simple postharvest processing of agricultural products and increase the production capacity of the breadfruit chips home industry. The result of implementing this program is an increase in one of the breadfruit chip processing home industries with indicators of increasing production capacity and business turnover. Greater support in science and finance could be scaled up to support more targeted and significant business development.
