Abstract

This study aims to describe the creative thinking ability of students with high and moderate abilities in solving open ended quadratic equation problems in class XI MTsN 1 Palu City. The two students selected as research subjects consisted of a high-ability student and a medium-ability student. This type of research is qualitative research. The data collection techniques used are tests and interviews. The results showed that the subjects had high and medium abilities, (1) At the fluency stage, high and medium ability subjects met all indicators where students were able to solve the given problems with various ideas or solutions to do the problems, (2) At the flexibility stage, high-ability subjects had met all indicators where students could do in two ways, namely the first to do by factorization and the second to do by using the ABC formula, while moderate ability has not met the fluency indicator because it has not been able to do it in another way, (3) At the novelty stage, high-ability and medium subjects have not met the novelty indicator where students have not been able to create or do it in their own way. High-ability subjects meet 2 indicators so that the level of creative thinking of high-ability subjects is at level 3, namely the creative category. While the subject with moderate ability meets 1 indicator so that the level of creative thinking is at level 1, which is the less creative category.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are; (1) to obtain a description of the problem solving of class X MIPA1 students who have the FI cognitive style in solving the absolute value equation at SMA Negeri 1 Pamona Selatan, (2) to obtain a description of the problem solving of class X MIPA1 students who have the FD cognitive style in solving the value equation absolutely in SMA Negeri 1 Pamona Selatan. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive research. The subjects in this study were 2 students taken from 20 students of class X MIPA1 SMA Negeri 1 Pamona Selatan who took the GEFT test. The results of this study indicate that students' problem solving with field independent cognitive style is based on Polya's steps, namely; (1) in understanding the problem, the field independent subject can write down completely what is known and asked in the question correctly, (2) at the planning stage, the field independent subject can relate the things that are known and asked in the question, so that in making problem-solving planning field independent subjects make plans correctly, (3) at the stage of implementing the problem-solving plan field independent subjects can perform calculations properly and correctly, (4) at the stage of rechecking the answers field independent subjects are able to recalculate the answers they get and able to provide conclusions on the answers obtained. The results of student problem solving with field dependent cognitive style are: (1) in understanding the field dependent subject problem can write completely what is known and asked in the question correctly, (2) at the stage of making field dependent subject planning is able to plan problem solving but inaccurate, (3) at the stage of implementing the problem-solving plan, the field dependent subject could not do the calculations correctly, (4) at the stage of re-examining the answers, the field dependent subject did not re-examine the answers obtained and did not provide conclusions on the answers he had obtained. Based on the description above, it can be concluded that the FI subject carried out the four Polya steps in solving the absolute value equation problem solving, in contrast to the FD subject who only performed Polya's three steps in solving the absolute value problem solving.

Abstract

This study aims to have a describe the mathematical problem solving profile of class VII-D students at SMPN 1 Pamona Utara on right triangle material in terms of gender differences. The subjects in this research were class VII-D students at SMPN 1 North Pamona, consisting of 1 boy and 1 girl with high mathematical abilities. The results of this research show that (1) The male student subject's problem solving profile can understand the problem by determining what is asked and known. However, SL did not write down the complete information obtained on the answer sheet. SL can plan problem solving by determining appropriate problem solving strategies. At the implementation stage, the SL problem solving plan can be implemented according to the determined strategy. At the re-checking stage, SL did not re-check the explanation. SL can draw conclusions from the results of problem solving but does not write them on the answer sheet. (2) Female students' problem solving profile can understand the problem by determining what is asked and known and writing it on the answer sheet. SP can plan problem solving by determining appropriate problem solving strategies. At the implementation stage, the SP problem solving plan can be implemented according to the determined strategy. At the re-checking stage, SP did not re-check the explanation. SP can draw conclusions from the results of problem solving but does not write them on the answer sheet.
