Abstract

High temperatures lead to oxidative stress which can decrease the quality of spermatozoa. Watermelon's rind have an ability for antioxidants effect that can reduce sperm's damages that results by role explanation of free radicals. This study aimed to determine the effect of extract of watermelon's rind on the motility and viability of sperm on male rat exposed to heat. This experiments use rat as animals experiment with five treatments and four repetitions. Five treatments are: P0: without exposured to 40ËšC of temperature and without treatment by extract watermelon's rind, P1: was exposured to 40ËšC of temperature and without treatment by extract watermelon's rind, P2: was exposured to 40ËšC of temperature and treatments by extract watermelon's rind dosage 20 mg/rat/day, P3: was exposured to 40ËšC of temperature and treatments by extract watermelon's rind dosage 40 mg/rat/day, and P4: was exposured to 40ËšC of temperature and treatments by extract watermelon's rind dosage 80 mg/rat/day. The treatment was done for 52 days. The results, P4 have the best effect that can be increase the motility and viability of rat's sperm (Rattus norvegicus) exposed to heat.

Abstract

The study was conducted to know Conception Rate and Service per Conception of  Bali cattle acceptors in west Sumbaw district. Data were collected fot the periode of January to September 2017 from inseminator in west Sumbawa district. The data were taken by primary and secondary data. Primary data retrieval is done by direct observation, which includes several variables, where the variable include the identitiy of the breeder, the cages, feeding, drinking and knowladge of breeders. The secondary data were obtained by recording of the officer insemination. All data was analyzed to find a percentage of Conception Rate and find number of Service per Conception (S/C) by analyzed descriptive of SPSS. Risults of this research showed that Conception Rate and Service per Conception's average of Bali Cattle is 60 % and 1,7. The conculusion of this research showed that Conception Rate is lower than normal value and Service per Conception of Bali cattle in West Sumbawa district is better. This research was expected to be a reference for the next artificial insemination programmed by the government.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of Moringa (Moringa oleifera Lam.) leaf extract on the viability and motility of spermatozoa of rats (Rattus norvegicus) exposed to heat (40 ºC). A total of 25 rats aged 2.5 months and weighed 200 grams were randomly divided into five groups. Rats in K (–) group were not exposed to heat and without Moringa leaf extract administration. Rats in K (+) group were exposed to heat (40 ºC) for 1 hour daily without Moringa leaf extract administration. Meanwhile, rats in P1, P2, and P3 groups were administrated with Moringa leaf extract 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg BW/day, then exposed to 40 ºC 1 hour daily for 14 days. The results showed that exposure to 40 °C one hour per day for 14 days in K (+) group caused a decrease (p <0.05) on viability and motility of rat spermatozoa compared to those of the K (–) group. The administration of Moringa leaf extract (P1, P2, and P3 groups) was followed by an increase (p <0.05) in viability and motility of rat spermatozoa compared to the K (+) group. Viability and motility of rat spermatozoa in the P3 group (given Moringa leaf extract 400 mg/kg BW/day and exposed to 40 ºC 1 hour daily for 14 days) were not significantly different (p >0.05) compared to the viability and motility of rat spermatozoa in K (–) group. It could be concluded that administration of Moringa leaf extract 400 mg/kg BW/day can maintain the viability and motility of spermatozoa in white rats exposed to heat.
