Abstract

The underweight still remains a public health problem for toddlers in Indonesia. The purpose of the study to identify the factors related to the underweight incident for toddlers at 24-59 months in urban and rural areas of Indonesia. This research used cross-sectional study design. This study used secondary data on the Total Diet Study-Individual Food Consumption Survey of 2014. The sample size in this study was 5165 toddlers from 24-59 months and distinguished by urban and rural areas. Bivariate Analysis used chi square. This study estimates that 20.3% of children aged 24-59 months were underweight with a greater proportion in rural areas 22.5%. Significant factors related to the underweight incidence in the urban and rural areas were the father's education level (urban; p = 0.02 and rural; p = 0.005) and mother’s education level (urban; p = 0.001 and rural; p = 0.005), number of household members (urban; p = 0.03 and rural; p = 0.012), and energy adequacy level (urban; p = 0.012 and rural; p = 0.005). The factor that was estimated to be significantly related to the underweight incidence just in rural areas as children’s age (p = 0.012), the total number of children in one house (p = 0.047). Multisectoral collaboration is needed to reduce nutritional problems, especially in rural areas. The efforts to improve community nutrition by improving the socio-economic condition of the community should be based on regional capabilities and local wisdom in the region.

Abstract

Background: Abnormalities of the heart and blood vessels marked by an increase in blood pressure are known as hypertension. Worldwide, high blood pressure is estimated to affect more than one in three adults aged 25 years and over, or about one billion people. Overall, high-income countries have a lower prevalence of hypertension (35% of adults) than low and middle-income groups (40% of adults). The prevalence of hypertension in Indonesia based on the Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) data in 2018 was 34.1%. Objective: This study determines the relationship of family support, social support, and health worker support with compliance of hypertensive patients. Methods: This research was conducted at the Tegal Gundil Community Health Center, North Bogor District, Bogor City, Indonesia, which was conducted from May to December 2017. The design of this study was cross-sectional. Sampling was carried out with a purposive sampling method with inclusion and exclusion criteria. The former consisted of all hypertensive patients aged 25-65 years who routinely control during the last six months who are present and willing to be interviewed during the study. The later includes hypertensive patients who have memory disorders with the number of samples of 110 respondents. Results: The results showed the respondents were dominated by the age of under 59 (75.5%), female (86.4%), junior high school as the highest education (68.2%), have no job (81.8%), and the prevalence of their sufferers’ compliance was 47.3%. The results of the Chi-square test showed that family support, social environment, and health workers were associated with compliance in hypertensive patients (OR = 2.461; CI 95% 1.140 to 5.310; P Value = 0.034). Conclusion: In order to improve compliance of patients with hypertension, it is necessary to pursue a program of activities focused on health promotion activities not only for patients but also involving family and social members.

Abstract

Most evidence showed that women with diabetes mellitus have a higher risk for cardiovascular disease. Prediabetes is a reversible state that can progressive for future complications or regressive to normoglycemic. The weight loss that prevents progressivity from prediabetes can be achieved by regulating dietary composition. The dietary composition may affect pancreatic ?-cell function and insulin sensitivity. Consumption of foods rich in MUFA and PUFA has a positive effect on metabolism, which is associated with an increase in the position of adiponectin, anti-inflammatory cytokines, which increase liver elevation, and reduce atherosclerosis, such as decreased triglycerides, LDL and VLDL and increased HDL. This article explores relevant literature on this subject in order to identify and elaborated the knowledge for further research.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of diabetes medication adjustment during Ramadan fasting according to the recommendation of International Diabetes Federation-Diabetes and Ramadan International Alliance (IDF-DAR) to HbA1c values in type-2 diabetes mellitus patients. The study was conducted at a hospital in Jakarta, Indonesia with a cross-sectional study design involving 80 ambulatory patients with type-2 DM who fasted during Ramadan in 2016. About 60% of patients used oral antidiabetes drug (OAD), mostly the combination of biguanide + sulfonylurea drugs (27.5%). The adjustments were made in which 56.2% was in accordance with IDF-DAR recommendations. The study showed that the HbA1c values decreased insignificantly (p = 0.082) from 8.75 ± 1.90 to 8.63 ± 1.82 after the adjustment. The appropriate drug adjustment based on IDF-DAR had a significant effect on the HbA1c value of DM patient with p-value 0.030 (p < 0.05).The discrepancy of drug use based on IDF-DAR 3.222 times greater caused uncontrolled HbA1c. The most influential variable to HbA1c value was drug type with p-value 0.006 (p < 0.05). Improper adjustment of Insulin or combination insulin-OAD caused HbA1c value 5 times greater to be uncontrolled than OAD.

Abstract

Data dianalisis dengan uji hipotesis multiple regression logistic for the prediction model. Low HDL is one of the criteria of metabolic syndrome. Low HDL in the blood will cause atherosclerosis and affect the increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Some research found that centralobesity, smoking, physical activity, and dietary intake have a role in lowering HDL levels. Objectives: The purpose of this research is to know the main factors associate to HDL levels in Indonesian society with range age 18-59 years. Methods: Design research was using cross sectional design. Research data obtained from Basic Health Research in 2013. Total respondents after doing data management were 21.055 people. The analyzed factors are age, gender, married status, physical activity, smoking, central obesity, dietary of fruit and vegetable, coffee consumption and dietary of fatty foods. The data was analyzed by multiple regression logistic for the prediction model.Result: The results showed that 26.2% of the Indonesian population aged 18-59 years had HDL levels ≤ 40 mg/dl. After being analyzed through 4 models, it was found that central obesity, smoking, dietary of fatty foods, married status, and sex associated significantly with HDL levels (sequentially based on OR value). Central obesity and smoking are becoming a major factor related with abnormal HDL levels after adjustment with other significant associated factors, with OR 1.948 (1.740-2.182; p-value < 0.0001) and 1.284 (1.127-1.462; p-value < 0.0001).Conclusions: Central obesity was a major factor associated with decreasing levels of HDL. Therefore, this research suggested to keep the waist circumference always under 80 cm for women and 90 for men, by applied the balanced nutritional guidelines (decreasing of fatty foods and increasing physical activity), avoiding smoking, especially for married women.KEYWORDS: balance nutrition; central obesity; HDL levels; smoking

Abstract

Nowadays more and more people are consciously diverting their eating habits from main foods consisting of meat into meatless foods consisting of various types of vegetables, nuts, seeds, grains and fruits that do not contain vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is not absorbed in the colon, so strict vegetarianism always results in vitamin B12 deficiency which lasts very slowly in years. This study aims to determine the relationship of vitamin B12 intake to Megaloblastic Anemia in vegetarians at Meitriya Khirti Palembang Temple using a cross sectional design. From the results of research conducted using correlation tests obtained results that there is a relationship between intake of vitamin B12 with a mean value = 0.982 against the mean value of Corpuscular Volume (MCV) in vegetarian blood with a value of p = 0.037
