Abstract

An instrument must be verified for validity and dependability to produce accurate research data for conclusions based on actual circumstances. This investigation seeks to establish the validity and reliability of badminton smash accuracy. The population of this study was thirty respondents. The sampling method employed purposive sampling with a sample size of 24 respondents. Data collection of smash accuracy using the Shaleh Anasir smash accuracy test, testing the validity of smash accuracy by correlating the results of the Shaleh Anasir smash accuracy test with the developed smash accuracy test, and testing the reliability of smash accuracy by linking the results of the first test and the second test of smash accuracy. Based on the collected data analysis, the level of validity of badminton smash accuracy is 0.84, which is excellent, while the level of reliability of the smash accuracy test is 0.78, which is acceptable

Abstract

The accuracy of the smash in the badminton game is very necessary so that the smash punch is difficult to return by the opponent. Accurate smash punches will help the player to win the match. This study aims to see the relationship between concentration and smash accuracy. This study used the correlational method by conducting concentration tests and smash accuracy to 20 coaching department students who were taking badminton courses. Concentration tests and smash accuracy tests were used to collect data on this study. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between concentration and smash accuracy in badminton. The coaches should provide concentration training to their players so that the players' smash accuracy can be more optimal.

Abstract

This GPS-based comparative observational study analyzed match physical demands of Indonesian national soccer players in two international matches against Kyrgyzstan (n = 15 GPS records) and North Korea (n = 8 GPS records), held at Zhejiang Normal University Stadium, September 2023. Variables included total distance, distance per minute, maximum speed, high-speed running (HSR), sprint distance, number of HSR, number of sprints, explosive accelerations, decelerations, and speed zone distances. Descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney U tests, rank-biserial effect sizes, and Spearman correlations were computed. Mean total distance ranged from 6,390–6,709 m, influenced by varied playing durations. Medium effect sizes (r = 0.317–0.358) were observed for HSR distance, sprint distance, and relative intensity (m/min) between matches. Spearman correlations confirmed strong internal consistency (HSR–Sprint: ρ = 0.886; nHSR–nSprint: ρ = 0.811). Full backs consistently obtained physical loads at a higher level than other players through both of the matches indicating a position-dependent demand profile. This data documented foundational normative GPS data for Indonesian international soccer and bear direct practical implications for individualized load monitoring, training periodization, and opponent-specific tactical preparation.

Abstract

The Scopus database was thoroughly searched by applying a Boolean search strategy that combined badminton, physical fitness, physiological demands, match analysis, and performance determinants related terms. Two reviewers independently screened titles, abstracts, and full texts and extracted the data, with disagreements resolved by a third reviewer, and the methodological quality of eligible studies was appraised using the FICO framework (Focus, Information, Context, Outcome). The thematic re-interpretation has uncovered four major areas of research: (1) the aerobic and anaerobic physiological profiling of players at different competitive levels; (2) biomechanical and neuromuscular features related to stroke mechanics and footwork; (3) training programs to increase explosive power, core stability, and agility; and (4) injury patterns and competition recovery monitoring. The results show that badminton performance stands on a complex interplay of a high-intensity intermittent exercise capacity, the ability of the lower limbs to generate explosive power, the velocity of the upper-body strokes, and the agility that is based on quick reactions. Training strategies incorporating plyometric, weight lifting, and balance exercises simultaneously have shown to have positive effects on performance consistently. Quantitatively, top-tier male players generally achieve a maximum oxygen uptake of around 55-68 mL/kg/min, on the other hand, integrated training involving plyometric, resistance, and balance exercises for 8-12 weeks led to the most stable improvements in the speed of smash and footwork. The review highlights that in the future research the use of standardized protocols for performance assessment and longitudinal study designs for monitoring should be adopted

Abstract

The initial systematic search of the Scopus database using the PRISMA 2020 method found 40 records. The 10 included studies involved participants ranging from preschool to college age, were drawn predominantly from Indonesia (7 of 10 studies), with the remainder from Taiwan, Malaysia, and the Philippines, and most quasi-experimental samples comprised fewer than 100 participants; the search was deliberately confined to Scopus to ensure consistent and complete bibliographic metadata across records, a scope decision discussed further as a review limitation. This analysis whereby the selected articles show constant key points. Thirdly, bringing local wisdom into PE greatly raised elementary students' drive, pleasure, commitment, and cultural knowledge, deeply connecting learning to their lives. Eventually, playing a traditional game helped teachers not only deliver instruction but also preserve cultural heritage and strengthen the student's cultural identity. The findings indicate that local wisdom-based innovative learning models can also facilitate the emotional, physical, social development simultaneously in schools. Besides, the review points out that cultural relevance is an element that attracts students towards deeper engagement and learning. On the other hand, most of the research articles are from Southeast Asia; though, some of the sampling and quasi-experimental studies are small in number. That is why upcoming studies should look at bigger and more variable populations, incorporate instruments that can measure social-interaction and enjoyment, and compare the performance results of these approaches across different cultural settings so as to provide a stronger evidence base at the international level.

Abstract

Volleyball injury can be considered as one of the inherent risks of the game as it is a high-impact jumping sport with the knee, ankle and shoulder being the main parts of the body exposed to the heavy load repeatedly. The period after the physical recovery from injury is also being understood as a psychological issue along with a biomechanical one. Researches on physical recovery have been done extensively but only a few studies have attempted to explore the psychological aspect especially the confidence of an athlete to resume the competition after injury in volleyball populations. This systematic literature review was conducted to gather and analyze the existing evidence on psychological readiness to return to sport following injury among volleyball players and, also, in the larger population of injured athletes who are relevant to volleyball. The review followed the guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA 2020) paper. Scopus database was the main source of information, and a Boolean strategy was applied to combine terms for volleyball, injury, psychological readiness and return to sport in the title, abstract and keyword fields. The search returned 783 records; after eliminating 11 duplicates, 772 records were screened, 69 full texts were assessed for eligibility, and 10 studies met all inclusion criteria. Four major thematic findings are as follows: psychological readiness is a quantifiable, multi-dimensional factor with confidence and fear of re-injury being the most dominant two elements; readiness has a consistent negative correlation with pain, kinesiophobia and second-injury risk; protective psychological resources such as mental toughness, athletic identity and adaptive achievement goals can influence the recovery trajectory; and criterion-based assessment which is validated is increasingly incorporating psychological along with functional testing. Theoretically, these findings substantiate the biopsychosocial model of the return to sport; practically, they are in support of the regular, sport-specific evaluation of readiness by coaches and rehabilitation teams. We recommend future research to focus on prospective, volleyball-specific cohorts, designs that are longitudinal, and the use of wearable devices combined with psychological assessment to enhance the precision of return-to-sport decision-making.

Abstract

The fusion of artificial intelligence (AI) and wearable technology has transformed athlete monitoring, yet evidence in volleyball, particularly beach volleyball, remains fragmented across engineering, computer science, and sports medicine. This systematic literature review (SLR) synthesized peer-reviewed studies on AI-enabled wearable devices for volleyball performance, training load, and injury monitoring, emphasizing the applicability of indoor volleyball findings to beach volleyball. Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, two independent reviewers conducted study selection and data extraction, achieving excellent inter-rater reliability (Cohen's κ = 0.87). Methodological quality was assessed using the JBI Critical Appraisal Checklist, and findings were synthesized thematically. A Scopus search identified 102 records; after duplicate removal and screening, 10 studies met the eligibility criteria. Eligible studies were English-language journal articles published between 2018 and 2025 involving wearable sensing and computational or machine-learning applications in volleyball. Four themes emerged: deep learning combined with inertial measurement units accurately recognized volleyball activities and jump types; wearable-derived training load predicted injury risk and performance using personalized algorithms; sensor-based skill assessment was validated mainly indoors; and beach-specific technologies remained limited, except for environmental monitoring. Overall, AI-enabled wearable systems demonstrated high recognition accuracy, but evidence for external validation and beach-specific applications remains scarce. This review provides the first beach-oriented roadmap for future research on wearable AI in volleyball.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the Games Based Learning (GBL) model in improving volleyball lower passing skills among Grade X students at SMKN 1 Solok Selatan. A quantitative quasi-experimental study employing a Non-equivalent Control Group Pretest–Posttest Design was conducted. The sample consisted of 69 students selected through total sampling, including 35 students in the experimental group and 34 students in the control group. The experimental group received Games Based Learning instruction, while the control group received conventional instruction. Data were collected using a lower passing skills test assessing passing accuracy, strength control, and movement consistency. Data were analyzed using N-Gain analysis, Paired Sample t-tests, and Independent Sample t-tests. The experimental group showed a significant improvement (t = −13.834, p < 0.001) with an N-Gain of 0.5191 (moderate), whereas the control group achieved an N-Gain of 0.2922 (low). A significant difference was found between groups (t = 3.503, p < 0.001). Games Based Learning was more effective than conventional instruction in improving students’ volleyball lower passing skills and is recommended for physical education learning.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop and evaluate website-based gymnastics learning media integrated with a deep learning approach to improve backward rolling skills among Physical Education students at Universitas Negeri Padang. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) design using the ADDIE model, consisting of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The product was validated by material and media experts, followed by small-scale and large-scale trials. Effectiveness testing involved an experimental group (n = 30) and a control group (n = 27) using a pretest–posttest control group design. Material and media expert validation scores reached 93.34% and 95.00%, respectively. Practicality scores were 86.81% in the small-scale trial and 85.90% in the large-scale trial. Significant differences were found between the experimental and control groups for backward roll angle (t = 4.721, p < 0.001) and backward roll round performance (t = 3.586, p = 0.001). The developed website-based learning media was valid, practical, and effective in improving students’ backward rolling skills and can serve as an innovative instructional tool in gymnastics learning.

Abstract

This study examined the independent and combined contributions of finger-hand grip strength and eye–hand coordination to overhead passing ability among undergraduate students enrolled in a Basic Volleyball Skills course. A quantitative correlational design was employed with 20 male students (from a population of 27) selected through purposive sampling to control for sex-related physical variance. Finger-hand grip strength was measured with a hand-grip dynamometer, eye–hand coordination with a 30-second wall-toss test, and overhead passing ability with a 60-second standardized passing test. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially using Shapiro–Wilk normality tests, Pearson product-moment correlation, and multiple correlation/regression in IBM SPSS Statistics (version 26). All variables were normally distributed (p > 0.05). Finger-hand grip strength showed a very strong, significant positive correlation with overhead passing ability (r = 0.891, p < 0.001, R² = 0.794), while eye–hand coordination showed a strong, significant positive correlation (r = 0.638, p = 0.002, R² = 0.407). Jointly, the two predictors explained 90.7% of the variance in passing performance (R = 0.952, R² = 0.907, F(2,17) = 82.90, p < 0.001), with grip strength contributing the larger standardized weight (β = 0.759) relative to coordination (β = 0.362). These findings extend biomechanical models of ball-contact control to a novel population. The research design being correlational in nature, one should see them mainly as a sign that pre-service coaching volleyball teachers could possibly benefit from adding finger-strength and coordination training to their training programs. Of course, this remains true as long as intervention studies confirm it. The study didn't include reliability coefficients for the three measures and also did not carry out the power analysis. These facts point to a limitation of the research.
