Abstract

High-performance sport management is central to a nation’s success in international competitions. Developed countries have long established integrated, evidence-based systems for elite sport development, while developing nations often face fragmented structures, weak governance, and limited resources. This systematic review analyzes and compares high-performance sport management models in developed and developing contexts, highlighting structural, policy, and outcome differences. Using PRISMA guidelines, 22 peer-reviewed studies published between 2013 and 2023 from Scopus, Web of Science, and SPORTDiscus were examined. A comparative framework guided thematic analysis, focusing on governance, funding, talent identification, infrastructure, coaching, and sport science integration. Findings reveal that developed nations implement centralized, data-driven models underpinned by long-term funding, robust governance, and strong institutional alignment. These elements enable sustainable elite sport systems. In contrast, developing countries often adopt ad hoc strategies, lack policy continuity, and struggle with limited access to sport science and infrastructure. Replicating developed-country models without contextual adaptation frequently results in inefficiency. The study concludes that effective high-performance sport management requires systemic coherence, strategic investment, and context-sensitive adaptation. Rather than imitation, developing nations should integrate key principles into resilient and locally grounded frameworks. By employing SPLISS, RBV, and Institutional Theory, this review contributes to advancing global sport policy discourse.

Abstract

Therefore, this study aimed to develop and evaluate a validated conservation-based beach sports tourism model that integrates eco-friendly sport activities, environmental education, community involvement, and zoning-based coastal management to enhance conservation awareness and support sustainable tourism in small island destinations. Materials and Methods: This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) design adapted from Borg and Gall, limited to four stages: research and information gathering, planning, preliminary model development, and preliminary field testing. The study involved 60 participants consisting of tourists, local community members, tourism managers, and experts selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality and homogeneity tests, and paired sample t-tests, while qualitative data were analyzed thematically. The findings showed high demand for the proposed model (Mean = 4.32; 86.4%), high conservation awareness (Mean = 4.10; 82.0%), and strong feasibility ratings (Mean = 4.25; 85.0%). Model usability was also rated positively (Mean = 4.18; 83.6%). Conservation awareness significantly improved after implementation, increasing from pre-test (Mean = 3.65; 73.0%) to post-test (Mean = 4.10; 82.0%), with a mean difference of 0.45 points. Statistical analysis confirmed a significant improvement (t = 3.87, p < 0.001) with a moderate effect size (Cohen’s d = 0.65). Conclusions: The validated conservation-based beach sports tourism model was found to be feasible, practical, and effective in enhancing participants’ conservation awareness. Preliminary field testing demonstrated a significant improvement in conservation awareness, with mean scores increasing from 3.65 to 4.10 (t = 3.87, p < 0.001; Cohen’s d = 0.65). By integrating eco-friendly beach sports activities, environmental education, community participation, and zoning-based coastal management, the model provides a practical framework for promoting sustainable tourism development in small island destinations.

Abstract

This systematic review gives an overview of studies dealing with the use of technology to monitor volleyball athletes during the time span from January 2015 to April 2026. By following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, we initially retrieved 2, 449 records from Scopus through a Boolean search. After stepwise screening, 29 documents ended up being reviewed. Methodological quality was, firstly, measured by the FICO framework (threshold ≥ 2/4), and AMSTAR-2 for systematic reviews was used; the reliability of the results across the reviewers was excellent (Cohen's κ = 0.81, 95% CI: 0.74, 0.88, i.e. strong agreement). Three major technology categories were identified: (1) wearable IMU-based systems, (2) GPS/LPS optical tracking, and (3) AI and machine learning analytics. Wearable devices were consistent in measuring jump load and player load (ICC > 0.87, 95% CI: 0.82, 0.93), whereas machine learning classifiers were able to recognize actions with accuracies of 85, 97%. Publication bias was very low (Egger's test, p = 0.21). The major problems identified were differences in cross-device standardization, female and youth players being, largely, absent from the studies, and laboratory sensor validation hardly reflecting real-life use.

Abstract

This review by a systematic method was intended to integrate the present knowledge about wearable gadgets, tracking systems, and analytical methods used for the purpose of athlete performance and monitoring assessment in beach volleyball. The review was run in line with the PRISMA 2020 criteria. Based on its wide interdisciplinary coverage of sport science, biomechanics, engineering, computer science, and sports technology research areas, Scopus was chosen as the main database. Studies that included beach volleyball players or events and referred to wearable, sensor-based, tracking, physiological, or computational monitoring technologies were accepted. Study screening and data extraction were performed independently by two reviewers with a very good level of inter-rater agreement (Cohen's κ = 0.87). Out of 128 published studies between 1998 and 2026, 112 were included in the qualitative synthesis. Thematic analysis mapped four main research areas: wearable sensor validation and load monitoring, physiological and biochemical monitoring, computer-vision tracking systems, and machine-learning-based performance analytics. Concerning validity, Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) were highly reliable for jump detection and external-load monitoring, while beach volleyball environment positional accuracy of Ultra-Wideband (UWB) systems topped that of GPS technologies. Machine-learning algorithms reached very high accuracy for action recognition, frequently above 95%, although small datasets were characteristic of most research. The data presented also make a strong case for wearable and analytical technologies integration as the base of evidence-based athlete monitoring, training program optimization, tactical player analysis, and performance management in beach volleyball. Investigations aiming at longitudinal monitoring, females and youth as athlete groups, and physiological, environmental, and artificial intelligent monitoring systems integration seem to be the most promising directions for future research.
