Abstract

The purpose of this research aimed to prove the effect of meniran extract (Phyllanthus niruri Linn) on layer hen infected with Escherichia coli to reduce inflammation and congestion on infundibulum histopathological view.  This research used 20 samples of layer hen. The treatment in this research was P0- (not infected with Esherichia coli and did not treated with meniran(Phyllanthus niruri Linn)), P0+ (infected with Escherichia coli and did not treated with meniran(Phyllanthus niruri Linn)), P1 (infected with Escherichia coli and treated with 10% meniran extract (Phyllanthus niruri Linn)), P2 (infected with Escherichia coli and treated with 20% meniran extract (Phyllanthus niruri Linn)), P3 (infected with Escherichia coli and treated with 30% meniran extract (Phyllanthus niruri Linn)). The data of this study analyzed by Kruskal-wallis and followed with Mann-withney test. The result of this research can be concluded that 10% concentration of meniran extract (Phyllanthus niruri Linn) was effective to eliminate Escherichia coli, 20% concentration of meniran extract (Phyllanthus niruri Linn) able to promote antibacterial activity, and 30% concentration of meniran extract shown antibacterial rate on high potential so it can be used to reduce inflammation and congestion as the result of Escherichia coli infection.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect after being vaccinated by OMP 52 kDa Aeromonas hydrophila for 1 week and then infected with Aeromonas hydrophila 10 CFU/mL for 4 days on changes in erythrocyte index. Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) used in this study was 10-12 cm long. There were 20 tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) which were divided into 4 groups, consisting of 2 control groups and 2 treatment groups which were given various types of vaccine formulations. Group P0 (-) (unvaccinated and infected), Group P0 (+) (unvaccinated and infected), group P1 (vaccinated with the whole cell protein "HydroVac®" and infected), and P2 (vaccinated with Outer Membrane Protein 52 kDa and infected) by intramuscular injection. Post-treatment blood samples were collected on day 5 post-infection, collected through a caudal punctie and then analyzed using a hematology analyzer. Post-treatment outcomes led to statistically significant changes (p < 0.05). Therefore, the vaccine caused a significant change in the erythrocyte index.

Abstract

The purpose of this experiment was to know the effect of Mimosa pudica root extract (normal water extraction) on mortality and muscle histopatological in experimental animal (Rattus norvegicus) which injected with LD50 of Naja sputatrix venom. Fresh Mimosa pudica root dried without sunshine and ground into coarse powder with steamroller (mash 3mm). Plant extract were prepared by stirring 4 g of the powder into 200 ml of water for 3 hours at room temperature and filtered with muslin cloth before freezdried. 30 rat divided into five groups, P0(C+), P1(C-) P2, P3, and P4. P0 (positive control group) injected by saline intra muscular and given aquadest peroral after five minutes, P1 (negative control) injected with Naja sputatrix venom and given aquadest peroral after five minutes. P2, P3, and P4 injected by Naja sputatrix venom and given Mimosa pudica extract with 250mg/KgBW, 500mg/KgBW, and 1000mg/KgBW doses. All of the experimental animal observed about six hours and than euthanized, musculus gluteus maximus (location of injection) was taken for histopatological examination. In this experiment observed that the normal water extraction of mimosa pudica can't reduce mortality of experimental animals but it can decrease muscle damage in 1000mg/KgBW dose.

Abstract

Background: Ujung Pangkah mangroves are reported to have been contaminated with heavy metals. Such heavy metals can induce microorganisms to produce biosurfactants. Biosurfactants with amphiphilic characteristics can lower surface tension. Biosurfactants can be used as antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral for biomedical purposes. Purpose: This study aimed to identify and test the activity of biosurfactant isolates of bacteria from Ujung Pangkah Mangrove sediments, Gresik Regency. Methods: Biosurfactant activity test methods include emulsification index, oil spreading, drop collapse, and parafilm test. Results: The results of the identification of bacterial isolates in this study obtained the genus Bacillus sp. because bacterial isolates show rod shape, Gram-positive, aerobic, and have ellipse-shaped endospores on the subterminal. The results of the biosurfactant activity test with the Emulsification index method showed an average result of 54.39% and the results of the biosurfactant activity test with the oil spreading method showed that there was a clear zone. The average result of the clear zone obtained is 54.83 mm. The average result in the parafilm test was 8.02 mm and the drop collapse test showed positive results characterized by falling and spreading of bacterial isolate fermentation broth supernatants.
