Abstract

Background: Students with quadriplegia often encounter significant barriers to participation in physical education due to limited mobility and the lack of structured adaptive learning models. Despite the potential of boccia as an inclusive sport, its use as a pedagogical tool in school-based physical education remains underexplored. Objectives: This study aimed to develop and evaluate a modified boccia-based learning model to support gross motor skill development among students with quadriplegia in special education settings. Methods: A research and development (R&D) approach based on the Borg and Gall model was implemented in six stages. Participants were recruited from a special education school in Surakarta, Indonesia, involving five students in the small-group trial and 20 students in the field trial. The intervention was conducted over eight sessions. Data were collected using expert validation sheets and a modified version of the Test of Gross Motor Development–Second Edition (TGMD-2). Pre–post differences were analysed using paired-samples t-tests, and effect size was calculated using Cohen’s d. Results: The developed model demonstrated acceptable content validity (CVR = 0.50-1.00; mean = 0.60) and satisfactory reliability (r > 0.50; p < 0.05). Gross motor skill scores increased from 48.78 (pretest) to 85.78 (posttest), with a statistically significant difference (p < 0.001) and a very large effect size (d = 3.70). However, these findings should be interpreted cautiously due to the absence of a control group and the small sample size. Conclusion: The modified boccia-based learning model shows potential as a feasible and practical approach for supporting motor skill development in students with quadriplegia. Further research using controlled experimental designs is required to confirm its effectiveness.

Abstract

Quality healthcare services not only emphasize technical medical aspects but also consider empathy and patients’ spiritual values. In Indonesia, where the majority of the population is Muslim, Islamic-based healthcare services play an important role in shaping patient satisfaction. This study aims to analyze the effects of healthcare staff services, service quality, and healthcare staff empathy on patient satisfaction, with Islamic service as a moderating variable. This study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design involving 100 outpatient respondents. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS software. The results indicate that healthcare staff services, service quality, and healthcare staff empathy have positive and significant effects on patient satisfaction. Furthermore, Islamic service was found to strengthen the relationships between these variables and patient satisfaction. The discussion highlights that integrating Islamic values into healthcare services enhances patients’ holistic service experiences. This study concludes that professional, empathetic, and spiritually grounded healthcare services play a crucial role in improving patient satisfaction.

Abstract

Background Problems: Wrestling is a compulsory course that can improve physical strength, discipline, and strategic skills and student learning outcomes. However, the learning outcomes are still not optimal due to inconsistent training, limited technique understanding, and a lack of independent training opportunities. Research Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of motor education level and circuit training on proficiency in learning wrestling martial arts techniques. Methods: This study used an experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group where there are two groups, the high motor ability group and the low motor ability group. The population consists of 40 students, and a sample of 20 students was selected using purposive sampling techniques based on certain criteria. Motor ability in this study is defined as an individual's ability to learn and develop motor skills, which is used to measure how quickly and efficiently a person can learn new motor movements. Data collection was done by measuring the level of motor ability and evaluating the techniques of wrestling after a period of practice. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS 23 statistical software to evaluate the learning outcomes of the basic techniques of wrestling. Findings/Results: The results of the data analysis showed that overall, there were no significant differences between the two groups. However, when looking closely at the level of motor skills, there are differences in the post-test scores between students with high and low motor skills. Conclusion: The conclusions of the study showed that although there were no significant differences between the two groups, the high motor skills group showed more consistent improvements. Future research could focus on the development of physical and mental skills such as endurance, strength, and discipline, which are important in improving wrestlers’ performance.
