Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of multicultural group counseling integrated with the Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) approach in enhancing multicultural self-efficacy among Indonesian high school students. Using a mixed-methods method, nine students were selected through purposive sampling based on their willingness to participate, representation of cultural diversity, and absence of serious psychological concerns. They completed an eight-session YPAR-based group counseling intervention. Quantitative data were collected using the Multicultural Self-Efficacy Scale–High School Version (MSES–HS) and analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and effect size calculations. The results revealed a substantial increase in multicultural self-efficacy (ΔM = 88.78), representing approximately 49.8% of the total scale range, with all five dimensions—cultural knowledge, cultural values, cultural awareness, communication, and flexibility—showing significant improvement (p < .01; r = .89). Qualitative data derived from reflection journals, focus group discussions, and facilitator observations indicated enhanced intercultural empathy, increased communication confidence, and a shift from passive tolerance to proactive engagement. These findings align with Bandura’s self-efficacy and social learning theories and Corey’s group counseling framework, which emphasize experiential learning, peer modeling, and reflective dialogue. The integration of YPAR into multicultural counseling not only demonstrated statistical effectiveness but also fostered agency, cultural identity development, and a more participatory school climate. This study offers a culturally responsive and scalable intervention model for inclusive education, particularly in multicultural contexts such as Indonesia.

Abstract

Gifted children have above-average intellectual abilities, but are prone to anxiety due to high demands and expectations from both their environment and themselves. This study aims to examine the effect of individual counseling using self-instruction techniques in reducing academic anxiety in gifted children at SMP GOLDEN GATE PALU. The method used was Single Subject Research (SSR) with a reversal A-B design. The results showed that after the intervention (B) through four individual counseling sessions using the self instruction technique, the average score decreased to 4.75, with a downward data trend and a change level of 3 (from a score of 6 to 3). The percentage of overlap between conditions was 25%, indicating a significant change after the intervention was given. These findings show that the self-instruction technique through positive self instruction is effective in reducing academic anxiety in gifted children.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of social pressure on the mental health of final-year students at Tadulako University using a quantitative survey design with a saturated sample of 800 participants. Data were collected through Likert-scale questionnaires comprising 20 items on social pressure and 38 items on mental health, and subsequently analyzed using descriptive statistics and simple linear regression. The results indicate that students generally experienced high to very high levels of social pressure, while their mental health also fell within high to very high categories. Regression analysis produced the model Y = 32,782 + 0,422X, with a significance value of 0,000 and t = 1,211, confirming a positive and significant effect of social pressure on mental health. The coefficient of determination (R² = 0,948) demonstrates that social pressure explains 15,7% of the variance in mental health, with the remaining 84,3% attributed to other factors. These findings highlight the need for enhanced social support, counseling, and effective coping strategies to mitigate psychological burdens among final-year students

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of self-awareness on students’ career choices at SMA Negeri 5 Palu. Self-awareness is understood as an individual’s ability to recognize personal potential, emotions, and values, which plays a crucial role in career decision-making. A quantitative approach with a survey method was employed, and the sample consisted of 152 twelfth-grade students selected through proportional sampling. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using simple linear regression. The findings reveal a positive and significant influence of self-awareness on students’ career choices, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05 and a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.383. These results indicate that the higher the level of students’ self-awareness, the more accurate their career decision-making tends to be. Therefore, enhancing self-awareness through career guidance programs in schools is strongly recommended as a strategic effort to support students in their career planning

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of consumptive behavior on the learning commitment of KIP-Kuliah scholarship recipients. A descriptive qualitative approach was used, with data collected through interviews, observation, and documentation and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The findings show that consumptive behavior is influenced by discounts, digital advertising, attractive product displays, peer pressure, and low financial literacy. Scholarship funds are often spent on non-academic needs such as clothing, gadgets, and social activities, causing academic needs to be neglected. This condition leads to decreased learning focus, delayed assignments, increased stress, and lower academic motivation. Therefore, consumptive behavior has a negative impact on students’ learning commitment.

Abstract

Adolescent anxiety is a growing mental health concern, with prevalence reaching 3.7% in Indonesia, yet practical and effective school-based interventions remain limited. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of group counseling with the mindful breathing technique in reducing anxiety among students at SMA Model Terpadu Madani Palu. An experimental method with a Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design was employed, involving 20 students selected through purposive sampling, divided into an experimental group (n=10) and a control group (n=10). Anxiety levels were measured using the Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescents (SAS-A), comprising 18 valid items (α=0.731). Data were analyzed using Paired Sample t-tests and Mann-Whitney U tests in SPSS. Results showed a significant reduction in anxiety in the experimental group (t=6.444, p=0.000, Cohen’s d=2.04), with 60% of students reaching the low-anxiety category after six intervention sessions, compared to none prior to the intervention. The Mann-Whitney U test confirmed a significant difference between groups (p=0.000). These findings demonstrate that group counseling integrated with the mindful breathing technique is an effective, accessible, and practical strategy for reducing student anxiety in school settings.
