Abstract

Addressing the issue of the dynamics of social media as tool for learning, the present study aims at investigating the perception of English language learners  towards  the use of social media  in  the  teaching learning activities especially for reading classroom. By using qualitative  research,  this  study  focuses on  learner’s perceptions towards social media assisted for language  learning  (SMALL) in reading classroom.  A total of   72 English language education learners  at  Universitas Pembinaan Masyarakat Indonesia participated in this study  through 5 point Likert scale survey  and interview. As the result, social media got positive perceptions from the learners. The dominant social media platform used was Instagram then following Youtube, Tiktok and Whatsapp. These learners believed that social media could be used as a tool for language learning that enhance  learners'  language skills especially reading and  engage  them  better  with lecturers and classmates in learning activities.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the learning outcomes of the squat-style long jump through traditional games in grade VI A SD Agung Persada Bandar Khalipah. The problem in this study is how to improve the squat style long jump through traditional games for elementary school students. The research method used in this research was classroom action research. The population in this study were all students Class VI SD Agung Persada Bandar Khalipah, Deli Serdang Regency with 37 students. From the data analysis that has been done, it can be concluded that using traditional games can have an influence and improve learning outcomes in the squat style long jump. Where in the first learning outcomes test, the research results obtained that the percentage of the average value after conversion was 66.18 and the student's classical learning completeness level was 56.76%. Therefore, traditional games can be used as materials for ways to convey learning to students.

Abstract

This research method was quantitative approach. The population  of  this study was the fifth grade students from 32 participating students at SDN 060880. In this study a proportional random sampling formula was used. For collecting the data, it used surveys on learning opportunities and student motivation in schools. Analysis of research data used simple linear regression. The results showed that: (1) the significance value was 0.030; because 0.030 < 0.05 H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted, from a learning institution. (2) R yields 0.210, ie. the low relationship between learning opportunities at school and motivation (3) The coefficient of determination (R2) 0.044 indicates this contribution of the influence of the independent variable is 4.4%. It indicates that 4.4% of students' learning motivation was influenced by the institution. Meanwhile, learning at school, 95.6% is influenced by factors outside of school as discussed in the study.Metode  penelitian ini adalah  pendekatan kuantitatif. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas lima dari 32 siswa berpartisipasi di SDN 060880. Pada penelitian ini digunakan rumus sampling acak proporsional. Untuk pengumpulan data, itu menggunakan survei tentang peluang belajar  dan motivasi siswa di sekolah. Analisis data penelitian menggunakan regresi linier sederhana.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) nilai signifikansi 0,030; Karena 0,030 < 0,05 H0 ditolak dan H1 diterima, dari lembaga pembelajaran. (2)  R menghasilkan 0,210, yaitu hubungan yang rendah diantara kesempatan belajar di sekolah dan motivasi (3) Koefisien determinasi (R2) 0,044 menunjukkan kontribusi pengaruh variabel bebas sebesar 4,4%. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa 4,4% motivasi belajar siswa dipengaruhi oleh institusinya Sedangkan pembelajaran di sekolah,  95,6% dipengaruhi oleh faktor di luar sekolah seperti dibahas dalam penelitian.

Abstract

Self-efficacy plays an influential role in iniating any action  including reading especially in online learning. Reading comprehension, along with all other language skills, has become a big concern in ELT, while self-efficacy is a pyschological aspect that affect the learners’ success in mastering the skill. In this regard, this study attempts to find out whether EFL learners’ self-efficacy affects the learners’ reading comprehension in Universitas Pembinaan Masyarakat Indonesia. The study applied correctional study with quantitative design. Participants in this study were 50 learners of English Education Department. A self-efficacy questionnaire (SEQ) and reading comprehension test were applied to the participants as parts of the correlational research model. The collected quantitative data were analyzed by Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) program. The finding shows that the result of r-calculation for learners’ self-efficacy and their reading score is .765. The score of significance level is < 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05) which means that Ha was accepted and H0 was rejected. This score indicates that there is a positive correlation between the two variables.

Abstract

Tulisan mahasiswa dalam teks berbahasa Inggris masih sering ditemukan kesalahan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk megetahui kesalahan bahasa Inggris yang terdapat pada karangan deskripsi mahasiswa Prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Semester 4, Universitas Pembinaan Masyarakat Indonesia Tahun Akademik 2021/2022. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian deskriptif dengan model pendekatan kualitatif. Sumber data pada penelitian ini diambil dari 28 teks deskripsi bahasa Inggris mahasiwa. Data penelitian ini adalah kalimat-kalimat yang mengandung kesalahan tatabahasa yang kemudian dianalisis dengan menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan tiga kesalahan berbahasa yaitu 1) kesalahan Subject Verb agreement, 2) kesalahan tanda baca dan huruf kapital, dan 3) kesalahan keberterimaan.. Berdasarkan wawancara, faktor penyebab kesalahan pada karangan deskripsi responden yaitu pengetahuan tata bahasa Inggris yang terbatas.Kata Kunci: Kesalahan; Gramatikal; Deskripsi, teks Bahasa Inggris

Abstract

Abstract This study deals with the effect of Communicative Language Teaching on the students’ achievement in writing hortatory. The objective of this study is to find out whether Communicative Language Teaching significantly affects  students’ achievement in writing hortatory. This study was conducted by experimental research. The population of this research was grade XI students of MAN Aek Natas. The sample was class XI-IPA with 36 students. The students were divided into experimental and control group. The experimental group was taught using CLT approach and the control group was taught without using CLT approach. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula to find out the t-observed, which was compared to the t-table in level of 0.05. It is found that the t-observed is higher than t-table (t-observed= 3.855 > t-table =2.102 ; p =0.05) meaning that Communicative Language Teaching has significant effect on the students’ achievement in writing hortatory.   Key words: Communicative Language Teaching, Writing, Hortatory.

Abstract

The current young generation has not been fully able to fulfil the components of the ideal character needed in sustaining the progress and success of a nation in the future. Strawberry Generation represents a beautiful strawberry fruit but is easily fragile and crumbles when stepped on. The birth of the Strawberry Generation is influenced by several factors, including the parenting style of parents in educating and raising their children. Researchers are interested in studying more about the skills of parents in educating today’s children. The use of the phenomenological method as an effort to describe and reveal the skills of parents in educating today’s children and how the behavioural changes that occur as a result of this education are related to the parable of this study, it was found that there are skills of parents in educating children that have the potential to grow them to be part of the strawberry generation, including overprotective parenting, authoritarian parenting, and lack of appreciation and communication. Solutions to minimize children becoming Strawberry Generation include: 1) mental development; 2) give confidence to children to carry out responsibilities that are able to make them learn and upgrade themselves, so that children feel they contribute and feel valuable; 3) attachment between parents and children; 4) train children to make decisions; 5) always understand the condition of the child; 6) instilling a growth mindset. Abstract

Tourism is a rapidly growing industry globally and is currently a source of employment and livelihood for many people. Tourism development in the region as one of the development sectors cannot be separated from the development of local communities and the construction of supporting facilities. One of the success factors in the development of a tourist destination is communication. Through communication, opportunities for the fame of a tourist destination will open up to be widely known by the wider community. This study aims to describe tourism communication and develop speaking skills through collaboration in Banda Aceh. This study uses qualitative research. This type of approach in qualitative research is a case study approach. Case study is a method that exploits a bound contemporary system (a case) as well as several bound contemporary systems (multi cases) in the real world all the time, through detailed data collection. The application of communication by the manager of the Tsunami Museum tourist attraction in Aceh is on the theory of communication effectiveness which includes cognitive, affective, and behavioral aspects.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the effectiveness or influence of the Principal's Leadership Style on Teacher Performance at SMKN 1 Percut Sei Tuan. This study used quantitative methods. Data collection techniques used were observation, questionnaires, interviews and documentation techniques. The data analysis technique used were descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistical analysis. The results of this study indicate that the principal's leadership has a positive influence on teacher performance. Thus it can be stated that the principal's leadership style was very good. It is due to the school schedule and good direction, the principal was motivated to teach, and the principal paid attention to the availability of learning facilities including technology facilities in schools.

Abstract

Pembelajaran bahasa Inggris yang kurang menyenangkan dapat membuat siswa belajar pasif. Kurangnya perhatian terhadap proses belajar siswa di kelas sangat jauh dari kemajuan terutama di tingkat Sekolah Menengah Pertama. Alhasil, hasil belajar siswa menjadi rendah dan penguasaan kosakata bahasa Inggris tidak mengalami peningkatan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis kesulitan dan strategi yang digunakan untuk menguasai kosakata bahasa Inggris siswa. Jenis penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskripsi. Subyek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas IX SMP Negeri 2 Gebang sebanyak 28 siswa. Metode pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan melakukan wawancara, hasil belajar (test) siswa dan dokumentasi. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data menunjukkan sekitar 22 siswa (78,57%) mendapatkan skor dibawah 60. Sedangkan siswa yang mendapatkan skor di atas 60 berjumlah 6 siswa (21,43%). Berdasarkan hasil wawancara dan observasi, beberapa guru menggunakan media pembelajaran digital untuk menarik minat siswa di kelas yaitu WhatsApp, Google classroom dan aplikasi Quizziz Untuk itu, penelitian lebih jauh dapat memaksimalkan pembelajaran yang dapat meningkatkan kosakata bahasa Inggris.
