Abstract

Pengembangan Digital Storytelling Berbasis Artificial Intelligence (AI) memiliki potensi besar dalam meningkatkan kemampuan literasi dan berpikir kritis mahasiswa. Penerapan teknologi ini berpotensi meningkatkan kemampuan literasi mahasiswa karena menggunakan media teknologi yang menarik minat mahasiswa. Selain itu, elemen interaktif mendorong berpikir kritis dengan mendorong mahasiswa untuk menganalisis cerita. Studi ini menggunakan pendekatan Research and Development dengan model ADDIE. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, angket, dan tes pada mahasiswa. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa pengembangan digital storytelling berbasis AI efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan literasi (membaca) dengan meningkatkan pemahaman bacaan dan keterampilan menganalisis. Dari penilaian secara keseluruhan dapat diperoleh penilaian akseptansi media sebesar 4,62 dan dapat dikategorikan “Sangat Tinggi”, dalam arti dapat diterima dengan sangat baik oleh mahasiswa. Hal ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa media berbasis digital storytelling dapat digunakan sebagai media pada proses pembelajaran. Selain itu, mahasiswa juga menunjukkan peningkatan dalam berpikir kritis melalui kemampuan mereka dalam merumuskan argumen berdasarkan cerita. Penggabungan antara digital storytelling dan AI dapat menjadi sarana yang inovatif dan menarik dalam meningkatkan literasi dan berpikir kritis mahasiswa.

Abstract

The right learning model is one of the keys to success in learning. The integrative thematic learning model is a model that combines two subjects where in this service activity was carried out the preparation of physical subjects for language teaching, especially foreign languages such as English. This service activity was carried out with the aim of introducing an integrative thematic learning model of physical education in learning English vocabulary so that students can improve their mastery of the language. Located at SD Adhyaksa Medan as an activity partner, assisting in learning English through sports education. The participants in this activity were students who were at the elementary level and carried out using an integrative thematic learning model. Before and after the implementation of the activity, interviews were conducted and the results showed an increase in the participants' interest in learning English vocabulary after being combined with physical activity. Furthermore, the results of the evaluation include the expectation that teachers can develop this learning model in other subjects for variations in teaching.

Abstract

Public speaking is a skill that everyone, including students, should have to increase their self-confidence. Public speaking cannot be avoided since basically humans often have to do it with various purposes. However, many students feel unable to speak in public because they lack confidence, don't master the material, or don't understand how to do it. This community service activity aims to do learning assistance for public speaking to increase the self-confidence of students at Gajah Mada Middle School, Medan. The methods used were direct lecturer, simulations and interactive discussions regarding the basics of public speaking, effective and good communication techniques, and various tips for developing yourself, especially in terms of public speaking. During the learning assistance, participants received basic material and public speaking techniques as well as direct practice. Meanwhile, the research used qualitative method for collecting data. As for the research results, the community service recommends the following: 1) Add extra hours to improve students’ English speaking, 2) Add contest that can motivate students to increase their confidence in public speaking, especially in English language.

Abstract

Education is vital in any type of society for the conservation of lives. The existence of education is closely related to the contribution of technology. The growing influences of technologies on all aspects of life require the education sector to follow and adopt technology in its systems. One of them is online learning. This study explores the students’ attitude towards the utilization of e-learning in Universitas Pembinaan Masyarakat Indonesia students especially in Teacher Training and Education Faculty with two study programs namely English Education Study Program and Physical Education, Health and Recreation Study Program. By knowing their attitude then their learning can be fostered by training flipped classroom learning.  The data collection method used was questionnaire distributed to all students of Teacher Training and Education Faculty batch of 2019 by purposive sampling. The findings reveal that technology-related factors (ease of use, speed accessibility and service delivery), internal factors (attitudes of the users) and teacher factors influence the students’attitude toward the use of e-learning. By providing the training, the students increased their motivation and academic performance in online learning. The study could provide the opportunity of assisting the students to use e-learning facilities regularly.

Abstract

The unstable condition of Covid-19 pandemic caused teachers be innovative in combining both online learning and face to face learning. Nevertheless, the application of digital media during hybrid learning is still a big issue for teachers in SD Adhyaksa, Medan City, North Sumatra Province. In consequence, it is necessary to hold community service by means of socialization of application digital media for hybrid learning. This service aims to socialize and offer training related to the use of online study through Google Classroom and Google Form to teachers and employees at Elementary School. The methods used to carry out this service activity were lecturing method and direct practice. It started from providing material introduction and direct practice of using Google Classroom and Google Form for teachers. With a variety of features it has, Google Classroom can be used to demonstrate or visualize concept of lessons with no face to face needed. From this service activity the teachers who tried Google Classroom and Google Form got good results. They understood how to apply digital media either in online learning or in offline learning. After getting materials and practices for applying digital media, Google Classroom and Google Form, teachers are accustomed to use these online media for hybrid learning.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the strategies used by English teachers to teach reading comprehension and how these strategies are implemented. This study is classified as descriptive qualitative research. The study employed observations, interviews, and documentation as its primary methods. The research's informants were two English teachers. The results showed that the teachers used three different tactics: discussion strategies, question-answer relationships, or QARs, and scaffolding. Scaffolding involves providing support and gradually reducing this support as students become more independent, allowing them to build on their existing knowledge and skills. The QAR strategy, which involves asking questions, answering them, and then reviewing the answers, is particularly effective in deepening understanding and retention of text. Discussion, facilitated by the teacher or in small groups, encourages students to articulate their thoughts and interpretations, fostering a deeper engagement with the material. These strategies, when integrated into reading comprehension instruction, not only support students in developing their reading comprehension skills but also promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of the texts they read.

Abstract

Digital storytelling, coupled with Artificial Intelligence (AI), has emerged as a powerful tool for enhancing language skills in learners. This study explores the multifaceted applications of digital storytelling based AI in the realm of language education, shedding light on its pedagogical benefits and innovative possibilities. However, while the potential of AI digital storytelling is promising, it also presents several significant challenges. It critically examines the challenges and offer insights into its application for language classroom. The data were 12 journal publications studied searched on the Publish or Persih, Google Scholar and Scopus database and its publication time range is in 2020- 2023. By conducting narrative review, this study provides a comprehensive overview of the evolving intersection of technology and the benefits of AI- digital storytelling in language. education

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah WH-Questions mempunyai pengaruh yang signifikan WH-Questions pada penulisan teks recount siswa di kelas sepuluh.SMK Swasta Marindal II Medanpada tahun ajaran 2022/2023. Subjek penelitian adalah 40 siswa kelas XSMK Swasta Marindal IIMedan,yang dipilih secara acak. Penulis mengambil dua kelompok siswa sebagai sampel, satu sebagai kelompok eksperimen dan satu lagi sebagai kelompok kontrol. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan tes menulis. Data dianalisis dengan uji-t. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata kelompok eksperimen adalah 77,25 dan termasuk dalam kategori baik. Rata-rata siswa yang diajar menulis teks recount dengan menggunakan teknik WH-Questions adalah 77,25, rata-rata siswa yang diajar menulis teks recount tanpa teknik WH-Questions adalah 67,75. Hal ini terlihat dari hasil akhir analisis uji t yang menyatakan nilai t lebih besar dibandingkan dengan t tabel (5,5599 > 0,320). Terdapat perbedaan prestasi siswa dalam menulis teks recount antara siswa yang diajar menggunakan teknik WH-Questions dan yang tidak menggunakan teknik WH-Questions. Setelah menganalisis data, penulis menemukan bahwa prestasi belajar siswa di kelas eksperimen lebih baik dibandingkan dengan prestasi belajar siswa di kelas kontrol.

Abstract

Pembelajaran dan pengajaran bahasa Inggris dengan ESP hakikatnya ditujukan untuk membantu mahasiswa berkomunikasi dengan bidang akademik yang mereka minati. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kebutuhan Bahasa Inggris khusus bagi mahasiswa program studi Pendidikan Jasmani, Kesehatan, dan Rekreasi (PJKR) di Universitas Pembinaan Masyarakat Indonesia Medan. Instrument pengumpulan data yang digunakan yaitu kuesioner terhadap 45 mahasiswa yang sudah pernah mengikuti mata kuliah umum Bahasa Inggris dan wawancara langsung terhadap dosen bahasa Inggris dan dosen PJKR. Data dikumpulkan dan kemudian diolah secara kualitatif. Hasil analisis menunjukkan pentingnya pembelajaran bahasa Inggris untuk meningkatkan dan menguasai bahasa komunikasi mahasiswa program studi Pendidikan Jasmani, Kesehatan, dan Rekreasi (PJKR). Materi bahasa Inggris khusus (ESP) yang penting untuk ditekankan yaitu istilah-istilah bahasa Inggris yang relevan dengan pembelajaran olahraga. Materi-materi lain yang bersifat aplikatif dalam peningkatan keterampilan menyimak dan berbicara juga menjadi prioritas pembelajaran. Hasil penelitian diharapkan menjadi referensi untuk pengembangan kurikulum mata kuliah bahasa Inggris pada program studi Pendidikan Jasmani, Kesehatan, dan Rekreasi (PJKR).

Abstract

Addressing the issue of the dynamics of social media as tool for learning, the present study aims at investigating the perception of English language learners  towards  the use of social media  in  the  teaching learning activities especially for reading classroom. By using qualitative  research,  this  study  focuses on  learner’s perceptions towards social media assisted for language  learning  (SMALL) in reading classroom.  A total of   72 English language education learners  at  Universitas Pembinaan Masyarakat Indonesia participated in this study  through 5 point Likert scale survey  and interview. As the result, social media got positive perceptions from the learners. The dominant social media platform used was Instagram then following Youtube, Tiktok and Whatsapp. These learners believed that social media could be used as a tool for language learning that enhance  learners'  language skills especially reading and  engage  them  better  with lecturers and classmates in learning activities.
