Abstract

Evidence-based policymaking (EBP) relies on an epistemological assumption that evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) is the finest evidence for policy formulation, while expert testimony is the poorest one. This paper argues that while RCTs are a valuable source of empirical evidence for policy interventions, they are not sufficient on their own to support evidence-based policy formulation. Through the lens of the INUS framework of causation, we demonstrate that the effectiveness of a policy is influenced by a complex interplay of contextual factors, which RCTs alone cannot capture. We advocate for the integration of contextual and qualitative knowledge, including testimonies from experts and community members, to supplement RCT findings. This additional knowledge provides insights into the social, cultural, and subjective dimensions of the target population, addressing motivations, preferences, and other factors that can significantly impact policy success. By comparing reductionist and non-reductionist perspectives on the use of testimony in evidence-based policy, we argue for a balanced approach that values credible testimonies as essential to understanding context. Ultimately, this paper underscores the importance of a multifaceted evidence approach in crafting effective, context-sensitive public policies.

Abstract

Marine debris consists of solid organic and inorganic materials that do not easily decompose, accumulate, scattering across the sea and beaches. The waste problem remains a fundamental problem that has yet to be resolved in various parts of the world, including Ambon City. The data collection techniques were direct observation and waste sampling. Determination of the research location was adjusted to the tidal schedule in August 2023 at Pintu Kota Beach and Airlouw Beach, Ambon City. Results of the study showed that the types of waste obtained were plastic bottles, plastic cups, plastic pieces, plastic packaging, coconut fiber, dry leaves, logs, iron cans, iron scrap, sandals, pampers, cloth, styrofoam, sponges, paper, and others. The results of measuring rubbish at Pintu Kota Beach and Airlouw Beach fall into the mega-debris (>1 m) and macro-debris (>2.5 cm - <1 m) categories, but most of it is in the macro-debris category (>2.5 cm - <1 m), namely 2 cm - 1.74 m. The mass of waste with a high average yield was observed at Pintu Kota Beach, ranged from 100 g at low tide to 121 g at high tide. Meanwhile, the average mass of waste at Airlouw Beach was relatively low at 58 g at high tide and 61 g at low tide. Plastic waste and non-plastic waste were more commonly found during high flood tide. This is possibly due to high rainfall in the east monsoon in Ambon City, which causes currents and waves to carry garbage up to the coast.

Abstract

The development of modern legal science requires a strong philosophical foundation to address the complexities of contemporary legal issues. The philosophy of law functions not only as a theoretical reflection but also as a fundamental basis for building legal theory and judicial practice. This study aims to examine the role of the philosophy of law in the development of legal science and theory, and how various schools of the philosophy of law, including Natural Law, Utilitarianism, the Historical School, Sociological Jurisprudence, Legal Realism, Critical Legal Studies (CLS), Feminist Legal Theory (FLT), Responsive Law, and Progressive Law, shape judges' worldviews in delivering criminal verdicts. This research uses a juridical-philosophical method with a conceptual and normative approach. The results show that the philosophy of law plays a central role in testing the validity, methodology, and truth within legal science. Moreover, the application of various legal thought schools enables judges to balance legal certainty with substantive justice, while considering social dynamics and the moral values of society. This study concludes that the philosophy of law is not only a theoretical framework but also serves as an integral worldview for judges in enforcing law that is just and responsive to social changes.

Abstract

Solar energy is one of the most potential renewable energy sources in tropical areas such as Indonesia. Its utilization is carried out through a Solar Power Plant (PLTS) system consisting of solar panels, solar charge controllers (SCC), batteries, and converters. Solar panels convert light energy into electricity using the principle of the photovoltaic effect, with a conversion efficiency of around 15–20%. The energy generated is controlled by a PWM type SCC before being stored in a 12V 65Ah dry battery. To meet the needs of charging devices such as mobile phones, the system is equipped with a step-down converter and fastcharging module that can adjust the output to 3–12V. [1] The installation system also pays attention to electrical safety standards, including the selection of cables and the use of MCBs according to PUIL 2000. This system shows great potential in providing efficient and environmentally friendly alternative electrical energy.

Abstract

One of the concepts of saving the environment is using waste as a basic material for making a product. An example of waste that can be used as raw material is tofu dregs which have chemical properties that are dominated by protein so that they can be processed into products that function as a source of protein. Another example is bran and sago dregs which still contain macro nutrients that are useful as nutritional intake for livestock. The nutritional content contained in tofu dregs, sago and bran has the potential to be developed as animal feed, especially poultry feed. The results of the research conducted revealed that fermented sago waste can be used as feed for poultry. stated that there was an increase in body weight of broiler chickens that were fed fermented tofu dregs with probiotic inoculum in the ration. The research results show that the nutritional content of tofu dregs is: 8.66% protein; fat 3.79%; 51.63% water and 1.21% ash so it has great potential to be processed into animal feed. The method used in this research is quantitative with an experimental approach which aims to determine the process of making animal feed from organic waste, analyze the quality of the feed, and analyze the effect of feeding on the increase in body weight of broiler chickens. Research results: From the results of the research, there is a nutritional content, namely calcium 15.10%, carbohydrates 6.76% and protein 15.3%. The increase in body weight in boiler chickens is that from the first week the average weight is 21-29 grams after being fed for 8 weeks, there is an increase in weight. namely 1.87gr. Keywords: Sago Waste, Tofu Waste, Animal Feed.
