Abstract

Salah satu cara untuk mengurangi emisi gas buang dari mesin bensin 4 langkah adalah menggunakan bahan bakar ethanol. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunakan ethanol terhadap reduksi emisi gas buang CO dan HC pada kendaraan bermotor. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian eksperimen. Penelitian dilakukan di Laboratorium Pengujian Performa Mesin. Obyek penelitian adalah sepeda motor Yamaha Mio. Standar pengujian emisi gas buang berdasarkan SNI 19-7118.3-2005. Analisis data menggunakan metode deskriptif kuantitatif. Peralatan dan instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah inertia chassis dynamometer, fuel meter, stopwatch, exhaust gas analyzer, dan sound level meter. Dari hasil penelitian diketahui bahwa penurunan tertinggi kadar emisi CO dan HC terjadi pada mesin eksperimen variasi II (diameter main jet orifice 130, rasio kompresi 13,6:1, dan timing pengapian 44° sebelum TMA) dengan bahan bakar E10. Laju reduksi emisi CO tertinggi sebesar 82,63% terjadi pada putaran 9000 rpm dengan lambda 2,918. Sedangkan  laju reduksi emisi HC tertinggi sebesar 84,27% terjadi pada putaran 3000 rpm dengan lambda 1,071.   One of the efforts to decrease exhaust gas emission from four stroke gasoline engine is using ethanol as fuel. Purpose of this research is to know the influent of ethanol to reduce CO and HC emission vehicle. The type of the test is experimental research. The experiment was carried out at engine performance test laboratory. In this experiment Yamaha Mio engine was used. The emission test method is done by using SNI 19-7178.3-2005. Data analysis is done by using kuantitative descriptive methods. The research using inertia chassis dynamometer, fuel meter, stopwatch, exhaust gas analyzer, and sound level meter. The analysis shows that ethanol as fuel decreases CO and HC emission that experiment variation II (main jet orifice diameter 130, compression ratio 13,6:1, and ignition timing 44o before Top Dead Center/TDC). The greatest CO emission decrease at = 2,918 and  9000 rpm is up to 82,63%. The greatest HC emission decrease at = 1,071 and 3000 rpm  is up to 84,27%.
