Abstract

The massive spread of the Covid-19 pandemic that results in the school closure demands the movement of learning mode from direct interaction to online learning. To satisfy current demand, the learning design needs to be revised, even renew. As technology massively integrated in EFL classroom, the TPACK framework is viewed to be important to maintain the effective technology-rich classroom which also focusing on the content material and pedagogical aspects. This article presents the STLDM (Scaffolded Teachers’ TPACK Lesson Design Model) in ELT as guideline in developing TPACK-based lesson design. Digital wisdom is accommodated in the design since the integration of technology is concerned. This model includes a two-stage development process in which the first step works on constructing the instructional objective, the second stage works and similar to specifying the design goals in determining the decision for achieving the objectives. It is assumed that the model brings betterment in the TPACK of teachers massively and shifts in the lesson design.

Abstract

The University students’ problems in learning listening give an impact on students’ learning and achievement. This research objective is to scrutinize the role of Dynamic Assessment (DA) approach in enhancing the University students’ ability in listening to learn. Previous researchers argue that DA Approach motivates students’ critical thinking and activate students’ prior knowledge in listening comprehension class. By using a quasi-experimental design, an author wants to find out whether DA is effective or not in enhancing the students’ competence in listening class. The experimental and control class was designed to apply the treatment activities in listening to learn class. 40 participants of EFL students at private University in Semarang were divided into 20 in the experimental class and 20 for the control class. The data for investigation was taken from pre-test and posttest for both classes. DA Approach was applied in experimental and traditional approach was in control class. The SPSS used to analyze the data to see the descriptive analysis that is significance or not. Then, the result displayed based on SPSS tabulation that DA Approach was significant for EFL students in listening to learn ability.

Abstract

Technology, pedagogy, and subject knowledge are all integrated into the teaching framework known as TPACK (Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge). This framework has not been widely used by English teachers in Indonesia to help pupils learn English. This study intends to investigate, evaluate, and thoroughly discuss English language education programs within the context of TPACK. The descriptive qualitative method was employed in this study. The information was gathered through a review of the literature on English language instruction utilizing the TPACK (Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge) paradigm. The collected literature data were then thoroughly compared, assessed, critiqued, and concluded after thorough analysis. The information demonstrates reflective programs for teaching English as a second language that combine and integrate technology, pedagogy, and content, including methods and activities for learning English as well as methods for assessing language proficiency. The findings of this study are anticipated to enhance the general knowledge and instructional abilities of Indonesian teachers, particularly those who teach English.

Abstract

Abstrak. The goal of this study was to investigate what EFL students did in academic reading class. The goal of the lesson is to prepare students to respond intelligently and critically to academic texts and to issues raised in written assignments. The idea behind this reading reaction has been influenced by Rosenblatt's research. She considers the act of reading to be a live event. The author believes that it would be useful to adapt this concept to academic reading even if it was often employed by literary majors. Qualitative information is provided to show how these pupils engage with text critically. In order to gather data for this study, the author observed, spoke with, and examined the written work of learners. The paper's recommendations for teachers to develop their own critical literacy approach to texts and modules are provided in the last section. In order to finish their output, the EFL students in this study employed a careful selection of texts, background knowledge activation, questions about the author's ideas, intertextuality for responding to the questions, and reflection.

To this end, 10 voluntory students who have participated in the learning of writing course have been recruited to take part on the interview. A series of questions were given to the participants related to the metacognitive experiences that comprise metacognitive knowledge and metacognitive strategies they run while learning writing. The outcomes of the study showed that students had varied problems solving strategies reflected from the different individual’s control of the cognitive regulation. The findings also indicated that there were positive outcomes in favor of the metacognitive strategies used in the writing course particularly when the strategies were correlated to the manifestation of the metacognitive knowledge. This study has practical implications on the prominent of metacognitive experiences that can be activated in writing instructions to support learning achievement.

Abstract

The education system in Indonesia is overgrowing along with globalization. Since English becomes the world's lingua franca, Indonesia has implemented Teaching English to Young Learner (TEYL) as the local content subject for the last two decades. This study is a descriptive qualitative study that aims to expose the realization of TEYL in kindergarten. The data collection instruments are a survey and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). A survey was conducted on 50 principals and teachers from 25 kindergartens in Salatiga, Central Java, in February 2021. The result showed that 96 percent of respondents considered introducing English as a foreign language in an early childhood education highly needed. Furthermore, the majority (100 percent) of the respondents' schools teach English as an extracurricular subject. On the aspect of teacher education background, it was found that only 14 percent of teachers in TEYL graduated from the English education department. Then, only 48 percent of respondents argued that the media in their school had already supported the TEYL program. Lastly, only 30 percent perceived that the TEYL program had been integrated with the early childhood education curriculum. In addition, the FGD also exposed the complexity of reality in TEYL. Finally, it can be concluded that in realizing an ideal TEYL is still needed many improvements in pedagogy, quality of teachers, good resources, curriculum, and media based on needs analysis.

Abstract

Considerable amounts of students and graduates of universities were found to be deficient in writing English. To this end, several researchers have focused so far exclusively on investigating teaching and learning methodologies in the classroom, while teachers have remained untouched in their capacity for evaluation and assessment. Empirical evidence suggested that assessment activities affect students' performance. As assessment literacy should begin with an examination of its knowledge domain, this study attempts to gauge the teacher's level of writing assessment literacy by distributing a questionnaire adopted from the Language Assessment Knowledge Scale (LAKS). The findings suggested that most of the teachers have a low level of literacy in writing assessment.
