Abstract

Science and Social Studies (IPAS) learning in elementary schools plays a crucial role in developing students’ critical and problem-solving abilities. However, preliminary observations at SDN Kamasan 1, Cinangka District, revealed that third-grade students still struggle to identify problems and design contextual solutions in IPAS learning activities. This study aims to determine the effect of the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) learning model on students’ problem solving skills. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group, involving 52 students divided into an experimental class (n = 26) and a control class (n = 26). The experimental class received learning through the STEAM model, while the control class used conventional learning. Data were collected through problem-solving tests and observation sheets, and analyzed using an independent sample t-test. The results showed that the mean posttest score of the experimental class (M = 84.12, SD = 6.45) was significantly higher than that of the control class (M = 72.31, SD = 7.28), with t(50) = 6.42, p < 0.001. The effect size (Cohen’s d = 1.15) indicated a strong influence of the STEAM model on students’ problem-solving skills. These findings suggest that the STEAM learning model effectively enhances students’ ability to connect IPAS concepts to real-life situations, promoting creativity and collaboration in 21st-century learning contexts.

Abstract

Character education in the digital era challenges educators to find innovative ways to cultivate student discipline without relying on conventional, punitive measures. While gamification has emerged as a viable pedagogical tool, empirical evidence regarding the specific impact of immersive behavioral gamification platforms, such as Classcraft, on young learners' disciplinary character remains scarce. This study aims to investigate the effect of Classcraft-based gamification on strengthening the discipline character of elementary school students. Utilizing a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, this research involved 30 upper-grade students (grades 5 and 6) from SD Negeri Padasuka Baros Serang, equally divided into an experimental group (n = 15, utilizing Classcraft) and a control group (n = 15, utilizing conventional classroom management). Data on students’ disciplinary behavior were systematically collected through structured observation techniques and analyzed using descriptive and inferential parametric statistics (independent and paired-sample t-tests).The findings revealed that Classcraft-based gamification has a highly positive and statistically significant effect on enhancing students' discipline character. Within the experimental group, discipline scores escalated dramatically from a pre-test average of 61.12 (low category) to a post-test average of 93.14 (very high category). Furthermore, the experimental group’s post-test performance (M = 92.34) significantly outperformed the control group (M = 65.61, low category) with an inferential significance value of p < 0.000. These results indicate that Classcraft’s role-playing mechanics successfully transform rigid rules into engaging, collaborative quests that internalize intrinsic discipline. Consequently, this study provides critical empirical support for leveraging digital gamification as a non-coercive, preventive alternative to mitigate behavioral issues in primary education.

Abstract

Moral development is interrelated with a person's self-control, which is also related to social rules. Honesty is a spiritual element, noble morals, and behavior that is in accordance with reality and truth. The purpose of this study is to determine the role of teachers in cultivating honesty in children and whether this role is running optimally. A qualitative approach with a case study method is the methodology of this study. The subjects were a class A teacher and a child. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed by reducing, presenting data, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that there are 4 roles of teachers as well as inhibiting and supporting factors in cultivating honesty in children in kindergarten, namely: 1) Teachers as educators understand the characteristics of children first and then cultivate honesty. Teachers as role models exemplify honesty to children during classroom activities. As teachers, they have their respective duties, but still cultivate honesty in children and do not emphasize materialistic values. However, in each activity, teachers insert honesty habits. Teachers become consultants for parents in their children's moral development and become mediators for children to solve and share their problems. 2) Inhibiting factors experienced by teachers are internal factors of children who are still closed and the environment around the child. 3) The supporting factors are family and school. The results of this study are recommended for teachers, schools, and future researchers as a reference strategy for shaping children's morals.

Abstract

Developing scientific literacy in elementary education is critical, yet traditional classroom methods often struggle to foster high engagement and contextual understanding, particularly in resource-limited settings. While digital interventions are rising, the specific efficacy of virtual field trips (VFT) in transformative science learning remains insufficiently explored. This study aims to examine the effect of virtual field trip-based learning on elementary school students' scientific literacy. Utilizing a quantitative quasi-experimental design, this study involved 60 fifth-grade students, divided equally into an experimental class (utilizing VFT) and a control class (traditional instruction). Data were collected through a structured scientific literacy questionnaire and analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics, specifically paired and independent sample t-tests. The findings indicate that VFT-based learning exerts a positive and highly significant effect on students' scientific literacy. The experimental group exhibited a remarkable increase in mean scientific literacy scores, soaring from 60.63 (low category) pre-treatment to 92.18 (very high category) post-treatment. Conversely, the control group only achieved a post-test mean of 67.16 (low category), demonstrating that VFT integration yields significantly superior outcomes compared to conventional methods (p < 0.05). Consequently, VFT-based learning serves as a potent pedagogical alternative to mitigate low scientific literacy. Beyond individual score gains, these insights offer a scalable framework for curriculum developers to integrate immersive digital technologies into early science education, bridging the gap between abstract scientific concepts and real-world phenomena.
