Abstract

Excessive use of antibiotics in treating infectious diseases has caused some bacteria to become resistant. Therefore, it is hoped that the use of natural ingredients such as cloves can be an alternative solution in reducing excessive use of antibiotics. This study aims to test the inhibitory effect and minimum killing power of clove flower oil (Aromatic syzygum) with water as a solvent against Staphylococcus aureus. In determining the inhibition zone, the diffusion disk method was used. Meanwhile, determining the Minimum Kill Ability (MKA) uses the liquid tube dilution method. The results showed that an increase in the concentration of clove flower extract was followed by an increase in the inhibition zone in the media with the isolate Staphylococcus aureus. Meanwhile, in measuring the Minimum Kill Ability, the results showed that the MKA value of clove leaf extract against bacteria Staphylococcus aureus smaller than 5%. This shows that only a 5% concentration of clove leaf extract is enough to inhibit growth Staphylococcus aureus. These findings indicate the potential of clove leaf extract as an antimicrobial agent for bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. So it is hoped that natural ingredients will be able to reduce excessive use of antibiotics.

Abstract

Mangroves are a type of plant that grows in coastal areas and river estuaries, and are often exposed to sea tides. The mangrove ecosystem has an important role for the life of the biota along the ecosystem, such as shrimp. Therefore, the aim of this research is to assess the composition of shrimp associated with mangroves in the Lembar coast of West Lombok. Mangrove data were collected using transect and quadrant methods, while shrimp data was collected using seser nets. Next, data analysis was carried out descriptively and the relationship between shrimp density and mangrove density was analyzed using Pearson correlation. The results of the research found four species of shrimp, including Penaeus merguiensis, Penaeus monodon, Alpheus sp, and Litopenaeus vannamei. Apart from that, six mangrove species were found, including Avicennia alba, Avicennia marina, Rhizophora apiculata, Rhizophora mucronata, Rhizophora stylosa and Sonneratia alba. Furthermore, the shrimp density value on the Sheet coast is 1756 ind/ha/year, while the mangrove density value is 0.382 ind/m2. The relationship between shrimp and mangroves is based on Pearson correlation analysis, r2 value = 0.699. The conclusion of this research is that the level of correlation between shrimp density and mangrove density in the Lembar coast is in the medium category.

Abstract

The mangrove ecosystem is inhabited by various macroinvertebrates, such as brachyuran crabs, hermit crabs, gastropods, and bivalves. The mangrove ecosystem is a primary habitat for crabs to grow and develop, and it serves as a nursery ground for young organisms before they reach adulthood. This research was conducted from September 2023 to June 2024 in Gili Sulat, East Lombok. The aim of this study is to determine the diversity of crabs in Gili Sulat and their association with mangrove species. The method used in this research is purposive sampling, taking into account the density of mangroves. The study found 12 mangrove species: Rhizophora mucronata, Rhizophora stylosa, Rhizophora apiculata, Ceriops tagal, Excoecaria agallocha, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Pemphis acidula, Avicennia marina, Lumnitzera racemosa, Xylocarpus rumphii, Cordia subcordata, and Osbornia octodonta. The mangrove density at station 1 was 1800 ind/ha, at station 2 was 1222 ind/ha, and at station 3 was 2411 ind/ha. The crabs found included 3 species: Baptozius vinosus, Notonyx sp, and Portunus pelagicus. The abundance of crabs at station 1 was 55.6 ind/ha, at station 2 was 33.3 ind/ha, and at station 3 was 66.7 ind/ha. The correlation between mangrove density and crab abundance had a coefficient of determination of 91.6%, indicating that mangrove density can significantly influence crab abundance. There is one species of crab that has a positive association with one species of mangrove, namely the crab species Baptozius vinosus and the mangrove species Rhizophora mucronata.

Abstract

Mangrove ecosystems play an important role in supporting environmental stability, providing ecological services, and influencing the long-term survival of many living organisms. This research aims to analyse the biodiversity indices of mangrove community in Gili Sulat, East Lombok. The method for determining stations is based on purposive sampling. Each station has three plots. The method for determining plots is based on mangrove density (sparse, moderate, dense). Data were collected using plots of 10x10 m2 for trees, 5x5 m2 for saplings, and 2x2 m2 for seedlings. Diversity, richness, evenness, and dominance values were calculated using the Shannon-Weaver diversity index (H’), Margalef-Richness index (R), Pielou-Evenness index (E), and Simpson-Dominance index (D) to calculate. The results showed twelve mangrove species in tree, sapling, and seedling categories. The diversity index in three stations ranges from low to moderate, the richness index shows species richness of mangrove is low, the evenness index shows that mangrove species evenness ranges from low and high, the dominance index shows that mangrove species dominance range from low and high. Thus, these results present that biodiversity indices of mangrove community in Gili Sulat are: (1) the diversity index (1,73) presents that species diversity and ecolocigal pressure are moderate, (2) the richness index (1,78) presents that species richness is low, (3) the evenness index (0,70) presents that species evenness is moderate and ecosystem condition is less stable, (4) the dominance index (0,26) presents that species dominance is low and almost no species dominate.

Abstract

Waste is still a big problem, especially plastic waste which is difficult to recycle because people still think with the old pattern that throwing it on beaches and rivers is enough to make the waste disappear. One of the things that must be done to overcome this problem is to manage waste. Waste management is a problem that has not been resolved properly. Tanjung Luar village is one of the densely populated villages, which causes a lot of waste to be produced. Therefore, in the PMD Community Service Program at the University of Mataram, a group of youth waste managers was formed to help Tanjung Luar Village in managing existing waste. This program is also assisted by several companion programs, such as making trash cans and transporting waste. The KKN Team hopes that by holding this activity, it will increase the community's understanding of the importance of increasing the knowledge and awareness of the Tanjung Luar Village community regarding the negative impacts and dangers of waste on health, increase the sense of environmental and health awareness regarding waste disposal behavior.

Abstract

The present work aims to study the effect of pineapple fruit extracts on the quality of Chemical and microbiological - rabbitfish sauce products. Utilizing pineapple extract can speed up the fermentation process because pineapple extract contains bromelain enzymes that will break down rabbitfish’s protein, carbohydrate, and fat molecules into simpler molecules. The research method applied involved experimental laboratory procedures. This study used a completely randomized design. The variables observed were protein, water content, acidity (pH), total microbe, total lactic acid bacteria, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus, and taste values. The pineapple extracts and fermentation length affected sauce product quality significantly. Pineapple extracts of 15% and 12-day fermentations produced the best sauce quality, consisting of 14.18% protein content, 73.55% moisture content, and a pH of 5.26. Besides, other parameters observed were total microbes 7.8 x 104 CFU/g, total lactic acid bacteria 1, 0 x 102 CFU/g, E. coli, and Staphylococcus sp. (negative), taste value was 3.46, but consumers did not like it so much. However, these results have met the Indonesian National Standards for the product and are safe for human consumption.

Abstract

Lima spesies (Pseudagrion pruinosum, Orthetrum sabina, Neurothemis ramburi, Diplocodes trivialis, dan Pantala flavescens) menunjukkan sebaran acak (I? ? 1). Dua spesies (Trithemis festiva dan Orthetrum glaucum) menunjukkan sebaran seragam (I? < 1), yang mengindikasikan adanya kompetisi. Tiga spesies (Orthetrum chrysis, Neurothemis fluctuans, dan Anax guttatus) menunjukkan sebaran mengelompok (I? > 1), diduga akibat heterogenitas habitat dan ketersediaan sumber daya yang tidak merata. Disimpulkan bahwa pola sebaran capung di Air Terjun Segenter didominasi oleh sebaran acak, yang merefleksikan interaksi kompleks antara karakteristik biologis spesies dan kondisi lingkungan setempat. Temuan ini dapat menjadi data dasar untuk perencanaan pengelolaan ekowisata yang berkelanjutan dan strategi konservasi keanekaragaman hayati capung.
