Abstract

Abstract

ABSTRACTIndonesia is the biggest palm oil producer and exporter in the world. In2008, Indonesia contributed 34.3% of total palm oil world production and 84.6%of production was exported as crude palm oil (CPO).In the worlds market, the growth of palm oil consumption and importwere 9.66%/year and .34%/year. In supply side, palm oil production and exportincreased 7.94%/year and 9.55%/year respectively. It reflected global excessdemand which influence palm oil price in world market, 1.69%/year. Demand forIndonesian CPO also to fulfill the raw material for energy. This situation willinfluence several aspects in Indonesian palm oil industry, in order to ensure theavailability of palm oil to fulfill national necessity for cooking oil industry and biodiesel industry.By using annual data 1979-2008 periods, an econometric approach wasapplied in this study. The goal of this study is to analyze (a) the analyze thecorrelation between world petroleum oil price with CPO world price, (b) theanalyze the effect of petroleum oil price toward domestic palm oil demand, (c) tosimulate the effect of petroleum oil price for 18,71% toward several aspects inIndonesian palm oil industryThe findings of the study show that (a) since 2000 there was the strongcorrelation between world petroleum oil price with CPO world price, that reflectthat CPO is used for raw material of bio diesel industry; (b) petroleum oil pricepositively influenced domestic palm oil demand, and (c) the rise of worldpetroleum oil price will affect the domestic cooking oil industry, i.e. the cookingoil supply will decrease, and the cooking oil price will increase due to the lack ofCP O for cooking oil industry, while the bio diesel industry was start to grow.Key words: crude palm oil, petroleum oil price, cooking oil, bio diesel

Abstract

The productivity level of cabbage farming in North Sumatra Province is low compared to other provinces on the island of Sumatra, where Karo Regency represents the general condition in North Sumatra Province. This study aims to estimate the level of technical, allocative, economic efficiency and the factors that affect the technical inefficiency of cabbage farming. The production function uses the Cobb-Douglas production function. Data analysis used the stochastic frontier method with a total sample of 116 farmers. The results of the analysis showed that cabbage farming in Karo District had not achieved technical, allocative and economic efficiency. The average technical, allocative and economic efficiency values of the respondent farmers were 0,697, 0,374 and 0,215. These results indicate that low efficiency is a contributing factor to the low productivity of farmer respondents' cabbage in Karo District. Factors that have a significant effect on efficiency are farming experience, labor ratio, land ownership status and cabbage harvest age. Based on the estimation results, the research policy suggestions include; increase farmer activeness to be involved in farmer groups, build and facilitate the growth and development of agricultural institutions and provide good seeding training so that farmers have good skills, thus improving the technical efficiency of cabbage farming in Karo District.

Abstract

Gorontalo district is one of the areas in the Gorontalo province who get the integrated farming system of sugarcane-beef cattle program. The integrated farming system of sugarcane-beef cattle is one form of technological innovation in agriculture. The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors that influence the farmer’s decision to implement the integrated farming system of sugarcane-beef cattle and to known the factors that provide the greatest opportunities in the implementation of the integrated farming system. This research was conducted with logit analysis, using cross section data obtained from interviews to 59 cane farmers who have cattle. The results showed that the farmer's decision to implement the integrated farming system of sugarcane-beef cattle, significantly influenced positively by a factor of the number of beef cattle, grass garden ownership, extension education, technological mastery of feed and fertilizer. The most factor that give opportunity for farmers to implement the integrated farming system of sugarcane-beef cattle is the number of beef cattle. Thegovernment policy implication, related to the implementation of the integrated farming system of sugarcane-beef cattle that is, the government needs to pay attention to the factors that significantly give positive influence on the implementation of the integrated farming system of sugarcane-beef cattle. Therefore, needed the government policy to increase the number of beef cattle ownership, grass garden ownership, extension education, and technological mastery of feed and fertilizer for sugarcane farmers.

Abstract

Differences in economic structure, differences in income levels, food price levels cause differences in household consumption patterns. This paper analyzes food diversification in Java. Households are grouped by income group to assess the level of food diversification of each group. Households whose income groups Q3 and Q4 have lower food diversification compared to households in groups Q1 and Q2. The study results show that the value of BI is greater than the value of MBI in both urban and rural areas. This indicates that the source of calories does not come from only one type of commodity. The increase in per capita expenditure does not increase food diversification (the dependent variable is BI) for households in groups Q1 and Q2, while it is positive for households in groups Q3 and Q4. Food prices generally affect diversification. An increase in the number of household members will reduce the level of diversification for Q1 households. In contrast, increasing the number of household members will increase food diversification for Q2, Q3 and Q4 households. The level of household diversification in urban areas is higher than in rural areas.

Abstract

Indonesia’s economic development is marked by changes in the structure of the economy and employment from those originally based on agriculture to non-agriculture, which is called structural transformation. This study discusses the turning point phenomenon in employment which is one of the important theses in the dualistic economic development analysis framework formulated by Lewis (1954). Related to changes in the sectoral employment structure and the achievement of turning points, this study finds that Indonesia has not yet entered a turning point stage. The achievement of Lewis’s turning point in Indonesia tends to be temporary. Viewed from the decomposition of sectoral growth, the contribution of the non-agricultural sector to economic growth is two times greater than that of the agricultural sector. This shows that economic growth in Indonesia is strongly driven by the role of the non-agricultural sector. This study also found that layers of labor from the agricultural to non-agricultural sectors had a positive impact on economic growth in Indonesia.

Abstract

The quantity and quality of food consumed by the community are determined by the price level and household income. Household food expenditure share is still dominated by rice commodities. The aims of this study are 1) to analyze the level of household expenditure on food in Java and (2) to analyze the expenditure elasticity and price elasticity of household food demand in Java. The data used was March 2015, 2016, and 2017 SUSENAS data. Household consumption data was estimated using the AIDS Model. The results showed that household food expenditure share for medium and low-income groups (Q3 and Q4) for urban and rural areas was more than 50 percent. This shows that the household is food insecure. The own-price elasticity for all commodities is negative and inelastic. Changes in food prices do not significantly affect changes in demand for food commodities because their elasticity is inelastic. Household food demand is more influenced by food prices than household income for food commodities except for rice commodities. Rice has elastic expenditure elasticity (means that food demand is very responsive to changes in household expenditure/income. The relationship between each commodity is almost entirely negative (complementary).
