Abstract

The experiment was aimed to study the quality and shelflife of Fremont fruit harvested from different land elevation. Fruit were harvested according to orchard harvest criteria. The experiment used Randomized Complete Design, with the treatment of land elevation level i.e. 500 - 600 m, 600 - 700 m, 700 - 800 m above sea level. Land elevation level influence peel color, at the higher land elevation level the orange color on peel was more appeared. Land elevation level in the range of 500 - 800 m above sea level did nor affect firmness and total soluble solids  (TSS) content in fruit juice at harvest time, however there was a tendency that higher acid and vitamin C content were observed in fruit of tree grown in the higher land elevation. The decrease on weight of fruit, fruit firmness, acid and vitamin C contents and increase of TSS content were observed during storage. The fruit of Fremont not be stored more than four weeks, because in this experiment, the fruit at four week after harvest experienced significant weight loss and severe peel shrinkage they resulted in unmarketable fruit.

Abstract

The objective of the experiment was to study the growth and fruit quality of several accessions of strawberry grown by hydroponics. The experiment was conducted at farmer farm in Pacet Cianjur, from March 1999 to June 2000. These accessions were collected from Cipanas Cianjur, Ciwidey and Pangalengan Bandung, all of those were unidentified its origin. Nutrition compound used was made by modify nutrition compound for tomato which was obtained from previous experiment. The result of this experiment showed that strawberry plant could produce runner with average one runner per month, whenever all fruit thinned. A strawberry plant produced one leave average per two week\', J 1-18 fruit per year with 13-24 gram per fruit or 210-314 gram per plant per year. It has been found that five accessions tasteless, four accessions had strong sour taste, one accession (No.4) with sweet taste and one another accession (No. 10) with sour sweet taste. The last two accessions had a good taste with fruit weight around 17 gram in average per fruit, smoth texture and adequate firmness. These accessions are being propagated for further experiment. Abstract

The objective of the experiment was to observe the effect of application of paclobutrazol as growth retardant and hidogen sianamida which can act as dormancy break on growth and flowering of Mango cv. Arumanis. Experiment was conducted at IPB Experiment Station, Tajur, Bogor (250 m above sea level), from April to August 1996. Three-year-old of Mango cv. Arumanis trees were used for this experiment. Trees were planted in the field with spacing of 5 m x 5 m. Experiment using Randomized Block Design, consisted of two factors. First factor was dosage of paclobutrazol i.e. 0 ppm as control and 1000 ppm. Second factor was application time of hidrogen sianamida i.e. no treatment (control), 15 days after paclubutrazol application( HSP), 30 HSP and 60 HSP. Each treatment was replicated six times using one tree for each replication. Observation was conducted once a week on the sprouting bud number, shoot length flowering time, cluster number, and cluster size. Paclubutrazol application significantly played a role in off seson flower induction of mango Arumanis, flower bud sprouting occurred on 61-71 days after paclubutrazol treatment. Percentage of flowering on treated trees was 83.3-100%, while no flowering was observed on the kontrol trees. More-over, paclobutrazol application significantly inhibited vegetatif growth through decreasing total bud sprouted and shortening shoot length. Time of hidrogen sianamida application tended to increase total of bud sprouted To generatif growth, time of hidrogen sianamida application tended to increase cluster number and significantly increase cluster length. Application time of hydrogen sianamida 60 HSP showed vegetatif and generatif growth better as compared with other treatments.

Abstract

The experiment was aimed to study the effect of hydrogen cynamide on tea growth and production after pruning. The experiment was conducted at Goalpara Tea Plantation (1100 m above sea levels) from September 1994 to March 1995. Clone TR12025 planted in 1976 with 29 months pruning cycle was pruned a week before application of hydrogen cynamide. Randomized Complete Block Design was used in this experiment with four treatments and four replications. Treatments consist of hydrogen cynamide 0.00 % (control), 0.50 %, 1.25 % and 2.50 %. An experiment unit consists of 20 tea plants. The results showed that treatments of hydrogen cynamide was not significantly increase the number of shoots and weight of "tipping" (shoot tipped on first plucking). The production was not significantly increased by the treatments. However, hydrogen cynamide at 0.50 % could increase 11.5 % fresh weight (equivalent 0f 9.9 % dry weight).

This research revealed that high quality waterleaf can be indicated by some criterias, i.e., higher content of primary metabolites (sugar and protein), secondary metabolites (phenolic, flavonoid, and chlorophyll), and antioxidant capacity (low IC50 value). Therefore, application of inorganic fertilizer in wet season is recommended to produce high yields and high quality water leaf. Keywords: sugar, protein, phenolic, flavonoid, DPPH

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries which have abundant germplasm of pummelo (Citrus maxima (Burm.) Merr.). Thepummelo germplasm must be conserved to prevent its extinction due to biotic and abiotic stresses. In vitro conservationusing slow growth technique can be considered as an alternative of ex-situ conservation. Two experiments were conductedto obtain suitable medium to conserve pummelo in vitro. The first experiment was conservation using modified concentrationof MS and sucrose. MS medium concentrations were 1/2MS and MS, while sucrose concentrations were 0, 1, 2 and 3%. Thesecond experiment was conservation using osmoticum and retardant in MS medium. There were six combinations of MSmedium supplemented with osmoticum and retardant, i.e. MS + sucrose 3%, MS + sucrose 3% + paclobutrazol 7.5 ppm, MS+ sucrose 3% + paclobutrazol 15 ppm, MS + sorbitol 2%, MS + sorbitol 2% + paclobutrazol 7.5 ppm, MS + sorbitol 2% +paclobutrazol 15 ppm. The results showed that reducing MS medium and sucrose consentration decreased leaf number andshoot length but increased root number and length. The combination of osmoticum and retardant reduced shoot length, leaf number, root number and length. Based on the planlet visual and inhibition of growth through the decrease of leaf number, shoot and root length, the best medium to preserve pummelo was MS + sorbitol 2% + paclobutrazol 7.5 ppm. Keywords: Citrus maxima, osmoticum, preservation, retardant, slow growth
